Often mistaken for autism special interests, BPD obsessions are a symptom noticed in many people with borderline personality disorders. Borderline personality disorder is obsessive in nature, and many sufferers experience periods of time when they are obsessed with something in particular. These periods of obsession can last from a few days to months. 

These obsessions, while mostly commonly associated with a ‘favourite person’, can also extend to fictional characters or celebrities, hobbies, objects, franchises, activities, past actions, events, numbers and foods.

A sufferer with a current obsession may find their life consumed by obsessive thoughts and behaviours surrounding their obsession.

A personal example would be my obsession with a particular story I was writing. I wrote for hours at a time, refused food and water to instead spend time writing, and thought about it every waking moment, even dreaming about it!  After a week however, it faded into obscurity in my mind and I soon felt bored and listless when discussing it.
