i think herman has a thing about people underestimating him,, just from how happy he was during his line "you were right about that fellow, he wasnt very bright!" like obviously he doesn't want to go through with jonathans plan but hes happy to prove mortimer wrong, since hes been treating him like a child the whole show.. for example when einstein is echoing jonathans statement and mortimer goes "you stay outta this 🙄" or when einstein is trying to warn him and mortimer calls him "sonny",, i imagine that sort of thing happens alot, especially with how quickly he responds to mortimer asking him if hes a real doctor "yes heidelberg 1919.." while he didnt really respond to the rest of mortimers blabbering he felt the need to prove himself almost?? idk
