I'm not the biggest fan of star trek doing grimdark serialised stories but I still feel like an aos political thriller would be so good. Like a founder PLANET of the federation is gone and a significant chunk of starfleet and sfa was wiped out to the extent that they're handing over the flagship to a guy who just graduated. Like getting into the spy bullshit and political machinations happening behind the scenes and the conflict between federation values and the fear based bullshit of those idiot spies. Starring aos pike because come on look at him.

the sisko kirk hero worship homoeroticism would be entirely reversed if kirk ever showed up on ds9 thru his own time travel circumstances because the first thing that would happen is he would meet quark and the thing about kirk is there is nobody in the entire space and time of the universe that would annoy him more than quark it would immediately be like the worst day he ever experienced it would be like nonstop torment trying to understand why these things keep happening to him and then he would see sisko tactfully handling quark or god forbid see him getting quark to kiss the nagus scepter and like it would be over for him like sisko handling quark related paperwork would be the single most heroic thing hes ever seen like he would become immediately obsessed and bewitched

Initial thoughts on backrooms: well shot and creepy but underbaked. Lots of potential.

Okay more developed thoughts:

The horror sequences (except the one at the end) are so creative and good. The found footage sequences in particular are incredible and I would watch a full movie of that alone.

The underbaked bits were the character arcs and plot. Like a monster representing rage and alcoholism is so unbelievably basic even without the alcoholic deciding to stay trapped in a weird liminal space after trapping a bunch of people with him which is literally straight from the shining.

Not to mention the psychologist with unresolved childhood trauma caused by her mother a symbol of which she uses to defeat the monster. It's pretty well executed but it's just so basic.

It might seem like I'm complaining but I honestly think this is a good sign because the visuals were so good and I think these creators are only going to get better from here if they keep developing.

#untagged rambling #the overall viewing experience was fun enough but i felt dissatisfied with the overall experience #and that ending really sucked #not the ending ending with the rooms i mean the secret corporate experiment stuff
