This dog walked a long way by himself. Many miles spent alone, wandering in North Carolina. He got away from the people that abused him and he ran. The scars on his mouth and his chipped front teeth give away him many times he's fought with some empty cans for whatever is left inside. His scars on his chest and legs tell the story of the vehicle he was either dragged behind or hit by The thing that gets me is this dog wants nothing but hugs and love from everyone he meets. One of many times that Gage purred in a sunbeam. It's tough to lose something that's been in your life for so long. We found Gage at the animal shelter in London back when we had just finished college, which was 14 years ago. He was about 6 months old and didn't real care that he was out of cage to see us. He just wanted to use the time to play with all the toys. His love of playing stuck around right to the end. He was a well travelled cat having been across Canada twice and spending 10 years sleeping in Calgary. He always also up for a look out the window, at times, lost in thought as his little cat mind wondered what he could find out there in the world. I miss his purr and his head taps. Petting him on rainy days as we both fell asleep. I sat beside Brielle because I didn't really know a lot of people at her party. To be fair, neither did she. I watched her take in everyone as they moved past us on their travels. I talked with her for awhile too. She is a great listener. Than came the cake. It was the first time she had ever tasted sugar and man, that sugar shot through the bloodstream quicker than a Usain Bolt race. She definitely enjoyed it and I enjoyed being there to see one of her firsts.
