oh, even better. ben realizes that when he hears the cadence of his gait, the heavy and quick pattering across the floor. kids throw their weight around and into every step. ben thinks it's funny; he snorts when he hits the ground, in tandem with ben closing the door behind him, if only because basilio gets right back up.

i kick that god forsaken laundry basket and it slides across the floor. i need it gone. with 𝓱aste. foot to plastic seems to be the only way. ‘ before you start yelling, before you get all upset or whatever, i need you to know the dryer shr𝗎𝗇k your hoodie with confidence. like it really believed in itself. ’ my eyes narrow. i feel it. i turn into a cartoon Ᏽabe sometimes. the suit and tie she'd forced him to wear fit like a damn glove, and she knew he hated it. there was a part of her that cared, but a ninety-five percent of her that didn't. he looked gorgeous and sure, she kind of wanted to drool at the sight of him, like a dog seeing their dinner for the night.

does she notice how he watches her mouth when she drinks? how the liquid disappears with her tongue. maybe it says something, that he's gotten used to the way they can't really be anywhere without eyes on them, so much so that he's decided he's just going to do whatever he wants and they can all watch.

"not cancelled." he doesn't actually have to say that, he knows, but something about doing it anyway feels a little funny to him (he likes to push her buttons). the staff had given him a little bit of trouble, trying to get back here, looking nervous and reticent when he'd mentioned who he was here for, but, well. her explanation puts that into perspective. they did make him change his shoes, though; he digs his heels into the plush interior of a bright white sherpa slipper. "and are you calm?" it seems like it, but sometimes looks can be deceiving. "you promised me brunch, though. did you forget?"

golden rule, you know. treat others how you want to be treated. if someone had decided to take an impromptu nap on his couch, he can't say that he'd be as graceful about it as she is, but maybe the cards have been dealt in his favor in that way. he really is comfortable.

They're both waiting. Morgan looks out at a sea of blank faces (well, not a sea. It's a small class - there's like six of them) with diminishing hope that someone might volunteer.

there is a moment where ben actually begins to pray that morgan is not talking to him, but the eye contact is pretty undeniable.
