A knight that has to watch his Prince pick a different favoured champion at a tournament. He knows it's political, but it doesn't stop the sting.
A knight who's Prince ties a token onto another knight's lance, the ribbon bright and perfect and visible.
A prince who finds his knight, moody and frustrated after the first day of the tournament's festivities are over. He knew he'd find the knight like this, could tell from the messy way he fought and the way he wouldn't meet the prince's eyes when he was done.
So the prince bought a gift. It's frayed and torn. Nothing like the bright ribbon he gave to that other knight. But clearly this strip of fabric has been torn off the prince's own cloak. Rough. Personal. Not a token from the crown, but a token from the man who wears it.
The knight fights much better the next day, with a secret tied to his arm and tucked under his armor.

Endlessly diabolical how you can't say words like rape and suicide uncensored without either being criticised by idiots or punished by conglomerates.
It's not r*pe, it's rape. It's not su*cide, it's suicide. Not unalive, dead. The backbone needs to be reintroduced en masse because softening the blow of these concepts with advertising language does absolutely nothing but allow people unaffected by them to feel not even a sting of what they can do, prompting inaction.
And it's been proven that on certain websites, you don't even face a repercussion for using the words as they are. People just started censoring themselves because they feared the potential lack of views and likes and followers which is so nasty itself.
I attended an anti-suicide seminar in college. One of the big takeaways from it was that stigmatizing suicide increases the rate of suicide, because people who are feeling suicidal feel like they can't ask for help. Every time I see babytalk garbage like 'unalive', I think of that.
Use the real words. Words have power, and they matter.
writer culture is getting hit by the strongest divine inspiration at the randomest things. like, you see an abandoned gothic church on holiday and that mixes with the shitty bollywood romcom you watched a year ago and you get a novel-length horror fantasy fic completely unrelated to canon. you go home and write 1 chapter two months later and never open the document again
