TIME SENSITIVE: Help Hazem's Family Survive North Gaza
hi all, I live next to an elementary school, and am TAing a class at my university this semester. as i am seeing children walk home hand in hand with their parents, and uni students helping each other carry boxes into their dorms, i think about Palestinian students.
i think about how all 12 of Palestine's universities have been reduced to rubble, disrupting more than 88,000 students' higher education journeys. i think about how more than 86% of UNRWA schools (477 of 564), which are now used as refugee shelters, have been targeted more than once by iof drone strikes and U.S. made bombs. in total, almost 650,000 children are out of school in Ghazza.
my friend Hazem himself is a dentistry student. his family of 7—his parents and 5 younger siblings (vetted #281)—is a family of learning. all of his siblings are top of their class. now not only out of school but forced to wait in long lines for bread and water, which iof has specifically targeted in the past week.
we have raised their evacuation funds for them, but to continue surviving every week until the border crossing opens is extremely expensive. in North Gaza, food costs 30x more than anywhere else in the strip.
we've only raised about €300 in the past 8 hours for Hazem's family. we cannot let this momentum die down now. i fear for Hazem's family, who survived 5 separate bombings in the past week and a half.
the remaining fund will be the family's survival fund and emergency relocation fund, should the iof bomb Jabalia camp again and the family needs to flee. please donate what you can.
€39,498 raised of €50,000 goal as of September 4, let's try to get this amount by next Monday.

We struggle daily to survive in an environment filled with threats and dangers.
We are originally from the north of the Gaza Strip, but at the beginning of the war we were displaced several times without anything. Our house was completely destroyed and we are now homeless.
We urgently appeal for your moral and financial assistance to cover the necessary costs for escaping to a safe environment, where we can build a better future for our children and ensure our family's safety.
We are in desperate need of your support. Any donation, no matter how small, can help save our lives. Thank you for your attention and support during these harsh times.

Hello, among the hundreds of tragic stories, I am sharing my painful story.
My name is Ahmed Khalil, I am 6 years old. I was at the beginning of my education, trying to learn, participate, and play with other children. My family consists of 8 members, including my mother and father. My father has diabetes, my brother Fathi is blind, my other brother Abdullah has autism, and my brother Mohammed was injured in his leg by shrapnel from rockets.
On October 7, 2023, the war began and has not stopped since. The airstrikes and Israeli shelling caused fear for me and my family. We could not endure the massive explosions that felt like recurring earthquakes and the red flames sweeping through the area. We were forced to flee to southern Gaza based on orders from the Israeli forces, leaving our beautiful apartments behind. We went to a UN refugee school in Deir al-Balah to escape the terror and death.
Hello, among the hundreds of tragic stories, I am sharing my painful sto… Mohammed Khalil needs your support for Help Ahmed Khalil's family
We stumbled into a different life full of suffering from every side, living through the most painful hell of war. I developed malnutrition due to contaminated water, poor hygiene, and the spread of infectious diseases with no suitable medicine available.
The situation is catastrophic and unbearable. “There is only death left in Gaza. Even death has become a privilege because it provides a sense of relief.” My older brother Mohammed and I begged our father to leave Gaza, but it was extremely difficult due to the high costs. My father lost all his property during the war, including his electronics repair center and apartment, which were completely destroyed, so he has nothing to help us travel out of Gaza. There is no safe place in the Gaza Strip.
I pray every moment for the end of this war and a ceasefire. The ceasefire is not just a call; it is a desperate cry to end the helplessness and despair spreading to every corner after more than 11 months of war. We flee from death every day, only to wake up the next morning to try to escape it again. My heart is heavy, unable to bear the recurring nightmares, and the overwhelming flood of news about blood, displacement, loss, and despair pouring from Gaza.
Every minute feels like a struggle. No one should have to endure this injustice, segregation, and discrimination. The ongoing shelling in southern Gaza and the intense bombardment of residential buildings in Deir al-Balah make everyone feel unsafe, believing they might be the next to face tragedy. Communications are cut off. We are exhausted and cannot bear more tragedies and losses. We are currently living in a classroom of the UN center, which is crowded with people, including my relatives and cousins. My poor father sees our pale faces and weak bodies and stands helpless due to the lack of money and resources.
I am still six years old, and I never thought I would witness such a brutal attack with complete disregard for human values. I am deprived of my basic rights, including health and education. I need to rebuild my life with my family abroad and receive better healthcare. Traveling to Egypt would cost at least $5,000 per adult and $2,500 per child, which is an enormous amount given the harsh living conditions and the blockade that has lasted for 17 years.
Therefore, I ask you to donate so that we can evacuate Gaza to safety. Please continue supporting our campaign by donating if you can and sharing it with your friends and family. Every contribution, no matter how small, helps us get closer to our next goal and brings us nearer to securing a safer future for my family.

Palestinian tiktoker Medo Halimy was martyred yesterday. He was growing a garden and making "a day in the life" tiktoks while in Gaza. He was just 19 years old and now he's gone, but y'all wanna pretend that people wanting hard stances against genocide is some kind of moral superiority issue and not the fact that people are literally dying.
This is his family's gofundme that's still linked to his tiktok. Please send some help their way so they no longer have to lose more of their family.

Day 3 into the Kawal Putusan MK (Trailing Constitutional Court Ruling) protests. Police brutality has been recorded on live TV in various cities. Some protesters are suffering from injuries that required costly surgery, and more than 300 people have gone missing—sometimes they are taken to hospital for injuries, but many were taken by the police: not even necessarily detained, which like isn't even legal in these cases; and more like kidnapped, taken to unknown locations for absolutely no legal reason.
Press are strategically being kept away from reporting and ones that do receive intimidation. There’s an unethical amount of tear gas deployment. Alarms are ringing for sexual harassment and violence. They beat up highschoolers participating in the protest. They are threatening celebrities participating in the protest. Some unidentified parties have contacted major community accounts and influencers to spread counterpropaganda for the Emergency Warning still video pictured above, a major symbol for the movement. A sniper had been spotted around protesting site.
These nation-wide protests, sparked by the Parliament’s plan to disregard the Constitutional Court’s ruling on regional electoral candidacy threshold and candidate’s age limit, has been going on since 22/8, just five days after Indonesia’s Independence Day.
The Constitutional Court established on 20/8 that candidates must be over the age of 30 by the time they are officially registered, and that parties with regional parliament seat of 6.5-10% at minimum can put forward a candidate; a contrast from the previous ruling of minimum 20% seat. This second ruling significantly alter the political landscape of Indonesia’s decentralized governance, suppressing major parties’ monopoly on regional election and making valuable candidacy from smaller parties possible. The first point is also considered a big win, because the incumbent president Jokowi’s second son Kaesang, that had been said to be running in regional election, will still be 29 when the registration is closed.
(It is truly some kind of win, because they somersaulted their way back in 2023 to manipulate the law for presidential election, n now we have to deal w the fact that the first son Gibran is the next vice-president.) (They didn’t have to do anything close to somersaulting probably, as the Constitutional Court’s previous Chief of Justice was. Hm. Jokowi’s brother-in-law.) (More on this here.)
What sparked this protest was the flabbergastingly abrupt parliament meeting on Regional Electoral Law revision, just one day (21/8) after the constitutional ruling came out, which has completely ignored the Constitutional Court’s ruling. This is despite the hierarchy of law stating that legislative bodies have to abide by constitutional rules. The Parliament attempted to make into law that candidates should be over the age of 30 by the time they are inaugurated, not officially registered. Appointment to office should be somewhere around February next year; the election will take place somewhere this October; while… well. Kaesang will be turning 30 on December.
People are still vigilant for sudden moves from the parliament body for their Regional Electoral Law revision, and/or the Electoral Commission, for their regional election regulation. For the moment, the Electoral Commission has stated that they are fully abiding the Constitutional Court ruling, and the Parliament has stated that they are postponing the discussion for the revision.
That being said, for several times in the past few years, the Parliament has held abrupt meetings in the middle of the night for the ratification of controversial laws.
The Electoral Commission literally just did hold a hearing with the Parliament. They're going to conclude the discussion for the regional election regulation on Monday.
Protests are still going to be held for days from now. Warnings about intensified level of violence have been going around. Stay vigilant.
