People are not bothered by Maximus because he is black.
They are bothered because the writers have essentially made him a loyal black servant of a white girl by his own choice.
If Hank had microchipped Maximus and gifted him as a slave to Lucy, there would be little difference.
Maximus is such an interesting character that appears to be getting absolutely downgraded by the writers trying to force Lucy as a damsel in distress romantic interest. A bit on the nose given that Maximus is a knight of the brotherhood of steel.
Aaron Moten is a great actor that deserves a better written character than this.
Trying to paint Maximus as a racist character in order to justify ghoulcy is insane work. He is not a "loyal black slave to a white woman." He likes her because they built a relationship together, and she literally has saved him and done things to help him before. If he's written to be a racist character, then guess what? Your fav Lucy is a horrible racist then, and nobody should like her. But what you're doing is just saying insane buzz words to try and justify hating on a black character. He is not a racist character, and I am deeply disgusted by this dumb take because it's just incredibly easy to disprove. They spent the entire second season a part, and the only reason he decided to go look for her again is because his life blew up. By this logic, Barb is also a racist slave character. Also, by the way, just because a black man is gentle and caring towards a white woman, that doesn't equal racism. You're literally just saying shit.
