Thinking about the last scene in Obsession where Fake Nikki goes from exaggeratedly crying over Bear’s death to the real Nikki coming back to herself and truthfully shrieking from being violated. In a matter of seconds, it shows the damage of women being characterized as “emotional” by depicting the stark difference between Fake Nikki’s cries for Bear—which are projected by him—and the real Nikki’s response to having been completely and utterly violated. More than that, the contrast between Bear and Nikki’s loneliness is as vast as their respective pain; Bear is never truly alone in the midst of his pain (shown through the real Nikki, Ian, and Sarah) yet still enforces an end to his imagined loneliness; meanwhile Nikki, after being traumatized and violated in every single way, wakes up completely alone with the consequences of everyone else’s actions against her.
