We interrupt our regular Camp Prodigy posting to announce that in a week, I'll be returning to HeroesCon! I'm tabling with @ceruleankitkats and debuting physical copies of 'me.august'.

hit posts for clout:

tell a joke. nothing takes off as well as a good joke, whether its fan art or original. you can use the joke to show off your art or sneak in your ideology

reference something popular, like a meme or a show. associating yourself with something that's already popular will make more people likely to run into it, because they are already interested in the subject matter

if you're having trouble getting off the ground in terms of engagement, make fan art for another user. this will get more eyes on your blog and has the added benefit of making someone happy they got fan art.

if you're just trying to make popular text posts and can't get engagement, uh idk, gimmick blogs seem like a good entry point? but this isn't my realm of expertise. The icon and url being attention grabbing because theyre funny on their own will help convince people to take a look at your blog.

for most posts, 1 colorful image is optimal. sometimes more images and/or noncolored images also make hit posts, but scientists havent figured it all out yet. anything funny enough will succeed, though.

image posts generally sell better when the caption is no longer than 3 lines of text. large amounts of text that's not broken up by images can scare people.

images taller than they are wide will generally grab attention better because there is a limit to how wide tumblr will display an image on the dash, but no limit to how tall.

if it is a text only post, make sure the first sentence will make readers have a lot of questions or make them feel something with a strong conviction. this will encourage them to keep reading

if you want to be evil you can easily get a lot of traction by making the post be about something that pisses people off on purpose. However, every post will piss someone off naturally, so remember that too.

if you want to be nicies, you can frame anything positively. Often when something really pisses me off, I make a post about how much I love the opposite thing. people tend to respond well to this, but insane commentary or arguments might still happen in the notes so be prepared for that.

before you post, look at your post and try to imagine every single bad faith reading anyone could possibly take from it, then try to change the post to prevent that misreading. this will be a miserable process, and someone will find a way to misread you anyways. accept that this is the unfortunate way of the world and pick your battles wisely.
