Asgore is driven by a selfless dream. He knows that his ex and his kids have had a rough few years since The Incident, and he wants to make things better for them. Asgore's had a rough few years, too, but I suspect that his own comfort is secondary to his family. Asgore wants things to go back to how they were for everyone's sake.

The big problem with this plan is that Asgore doesn't really...talk to his family.

Sure, he'll talk to Kris if they talk first. He sometimes ambushes Toriel in public. But he doesn't initiate any talks with Kris (despite presumably being somewhat aware of what's been going on this week), and his conversations with Toriel feel less like earnest socializing than trying to convince her to take him back. He almost certainly never told either of them about his plan, let alone asked for their input.

From the audience's perspective, all evidence suggests that Toriel wouldn't want to hook up with Asgore again even if his plan worked. She's moved on, she's happy with her current life, maybe she wanted to divorce him for non-Incident reasons which Asgore's plan doesn't resolve. Asgore would probably know that if he talked to Toriel about the plan.

Flowery is likewise driven by his selfless dream. He wants to make Asgore happy, to make up for the years that Asgore's spent taking care of him and the other flowers. But he doesn't listen to what Asgore wants.

Flowery jumps right in with his "best friend" act and starts arranging activities for Asgore. Flowery decides to take Asgore fishing, Flowery brings him to Yellow's "cowboy show," Flowery takes him to The Di~ner. When Asgore asks to see the Dark Fountain, Flowery takes the scenic route; when Asgore notices Kris (and obviously wants to talk to them), Flowery spirits him away. When Asgore's engrossed in his research, Flowery doesn't offer to help; he blows the documents away and insists he spend time with The Boys (even if some of them are girls).

Like Asgore, Flowery just assumes he knows what's best for his loved ones. Like Asgore, he just makes a plan and follows it and expects it to make Asgore happy.

It doesn't work.
