But where it was more obvious with his mother/Goddess due to her prefered flavour of harm being emotional abuse with a heavy helping of manipulation, his Father/God was more subtle in that his go to method of inflicting harm on his kids was neglect of both the physical and emotional variety.

Both are harmful but it's easier to overlook Gods actions or write them off as it's not like he ever did anything to Lucifer during the show

We watch his mother at repeatedly ignore his wants and desires to try and manipulate him into doing what she wants .

We never see anything like that on God's end.

Except we do.

When God finally turns up he paints himself as someone who's apologetic and willing to reach out to fix his mistakes but that's not the case.

We know that the only time God seemed to pay attention to his kids before the fall (at least from Lucifer's perspective which is admittedly bias) when they caused trouble or needed punishing.

We also know that Gods punishments seemed to be contextually extreme and excessive from a mortal perspective.

The punishment simply doesn't seem to match the crime.

Intentionally or not God taught his children to fear him and associate his presence with punishment or failure.

They all want to be 'the favourite' and make him proud but they're also scared of disappointing him.

Amenadiels comments make it clear that the mans absence from his children's lives continues and if anything gets worse after the fall.

We watch Lucifer scream up at his dad waiting for any sign that he's listening.

We witness Uriel die a needless death that God could have prevented if he had just communicated with any of his kids...

We as an audience consistently watch God's behaviour or lack of involvement harm his kids but it doesn't register as easily as that of the Goddess because he isn't there.

His absence is the cruelty.

Goddess at least tries in her own messed up way and Lucifer seems to appreciate that given his anger at her seems to mellow a lot easier than his feelings towards his father.

God pissed me off in this show because he treated everything like some grand lesson and not a massive screw up in parenting.

Chloe!

Chloe is a massive example of manipulation from God that seems to come out of left field precisely because it isn't gods usual brand of parenting.

Regardless of why you believe God created her and ensured she and Lucifer crossed paths, the entire situation is incredibly dodgy and an emotional minefield.

Goddess may have used her existence as a miracle against Lucifer but that was only so effective precisely because it's such a fucked up situation/thing to do!

At best it's the divine equivalent of trying to bribe your kid with a puppy.

At worst God was actively trying to manipulate Lucifer and prodding him into a mental state that would be open and vulnerable to God pushing himself back into his life.

God basically used Chloe to lower the walls God's actions created.

It was Lucifer who killed Uriel to prevent the Goddess from being effectively terminated. Which was a situation he was forced into by the deal he made with God—the same deal that had some really, really vague conditions that weren't even properly set or communicated to Lucifer—to protect Chloe from a situation created by, for the most part, Amenadiel's own actions.

It was also Lucifer who then, solved the issue with the Goddess with the most humane way he could find to all parties involved. Finding a way to both prevent (more) needless bloodshed of his siblings and that would give everyone what they wanted, sort of.

By the same coin, after God left Heaven for his retirement plan with the Goddess, Lucifer had to deal with the mess caused by leaving Michael unattended with an armed military force that could have easily wound up with enough bloodshed that could have resulted in Lucifer either killing more of his siblings, OR that could have ended with Hell without a King and Heaven with a merciless, human-hating New God in place. The result of this was Lucifer deciding to sacrifice himself to give Chloe more time with her daughter and family.

And Boy, Oh Boy. None of the results of these were exactly kind or merciful on Lucifer. If anything, out of any of his siblings, Lucifer seems to receive the harshest trials and tribulations from God, AND he never comes out of them unscathed.

Additionally, Lucifer also never receives advice or help directly from his father, despite being put in these kinds of situations by His hands. Which is, from a parenting point of view, about the most cruel thing he could do to Lucifer, because he wasn't even there after all this was done.
