I do increasingly want to make an ace and aro anthology where cozy slice of life is OUT and Bad Rep™ is IN. Give me your aro and ace nonhumans, your alien species where no one has invented romance and sex doesn’t exist, your loners, your grouchy bad-attitude assholes, your hackers who feel more affinity with computers than other people, your characters who are deeply hurt when others abandon them for their romantic partners and are not gracious about it, your people who feel outside of their society, your characters who make bad and selfish decisions and conversely your characters who are dramatically self sacrificing. Give me military SF and postapocalypse and angst and drama and stories where a small research team goes to a distant planet and everybody fuckin dies. Give me ace characters who aren’t patient or understanding and aro characters who do not give a shit about romance, fictional or otherwise. Give me aroaces who decide to take fate into their own hands and bomb Mercury about it

The eye doctor is the most fun doctor you can go to. They never steal your blood. They never make you get naked and put on a paper dress. They're just like, "Can you see these letters? It's fine if you can't, we can fix that." And they don't even spell anything.

In biology they told us that the eye doesn't actually see everything in the room, it fills in most of it from memory and assumption. your brain is just confidently making stuff up about what's probably there and you believe it because you have no reason not to. and i thought that was just a vision fact but actually it's the most important thing i know about unreliable narrators. your character isn't lying. they genuinely see the room they expect to see. that's so much scarier.

The way that when you’re a child other children can bully you and single you out as an acceptable target for abuse and socially isolate you to the point that it permanently changes your personality, your self worth and the way you interact with other adults for the rest of your life. And there’s nothing that can really be done about this. All you can do is just keep getting older and put more years between your current self and the frightened child that you were. Nothing happens to the kids that bullied you, they might not even remember doing it at all
