I remember when I was younger, anytime I watched a movie where the characters have to kill a scary monster/alien, I always thought the act of killing it was intended to be part of the horror. Like there’s this amazing creature that we’ve never seen before, and maybe under different circumstances we could’ve coexisted with it, but it’s trying to attack you and you have to defend yourself, but by destroying it you also destroy the ability to ever understand it and that’s sad and is supposed to make you feel conflicted.

It was not until well into my adulthood that I realized most people do not have complicated feelings about movies where people have to kill a scary alien monster, nor is that necessarily meant to be part of the narrative (unless it very obviously is). They just want the scary thing to die because it’s scary. I don’t have a real conclusion to this I just started thinking about it for some reason.

ID / TL;DW: young Black man explains the history of voodoo dolls: they originated in England, where Black people where prohibited from learning to read or write, to help witches keep track of what ailed their patients. Eg., person goes to witch and laments headache, they treat their headache and make a small doll (called "poppet"), trying to represent them as good as possible, stick a needle in its head and put it up a shelf. When they return next week, the witch takes their poppet and asks about their headache. If it's gone, they remove the needle, otherwise they know they have to treat a rather persistent headache.

I'm trying to pick up my old doll projects again. For the one uh... was it dreamie sweets? Doll, the purple one whose hair sadly lost all its cute curls because I didn't use hairspray... well, her hair is all wet and saturated (but smells wonderful still thanks to all the moisturizer I used!) I dunno if I'll be able to salvage it but I'll try. But I decided to get rid of her body, because it was just so stained. But mostly because I want to try and fix the wiring/battery/etc if possible and have her wand light up again! I saved her legs and her stuffing but the rest had to go. I'm thinking of doing something like what Moonlight Jewel did in her most recent video and giving her a cute plush body with a hood. Then it would hide all her bald spots in the back, and I can style her hair in the front. I'm also debating on whether or not I just want to enhance her face-up, or do a completely new one. I do have the other dreamie sweets doll who is much less dirty and ruined to kinda preserve her looks. So I think, because she was so dirty and gross when I got her, I will go much harder than I originally intended in her redesign.
