also to be fucking clear about something: me posting about loving trans men, transmasculinity, dykes and butches ultimately has nothing to do with my sexual/romantic attraction or lack thereof.
i am writing about queering masculinity, about the beauty of transmasculine self love, about the wide and wondrous cosmos that is masculinity when absolved of societal hostility and hegemony because i think they deserve to be written about and i find them breathtaking and i find that they give me breath when society has me feeling like i'm suffocating.
i love and cherish transmasculinity, transmasc people, trans men, butches, queer masculinity and all thats in between not because it gets my rocks off but because i find it so profoundly awe-inspiring and i want others to be able to let go off their internalized self hatred, anxiety and fear so that they can see themselves that way.
i grew up with so much self hatred for my baby-butch-supposed-to-be-a-man self and i have found a whole world inside of my exploration of liberated masculinity and i need others to see that too.
so no: i'm not writing about this because i'm attracted to trans men and transmasculine people, i write about it because i needed to read that shit when i was still so full of self hatred, my carnal desires towards specific transmasc individuals i can put aside for a moment; but my love for all we are and all that we can be i cannot.
Sometimes "estrogen would save her" means literally just going on HRT would resolve her issues, but other times it means "a radical act of self-determination would reframe so much of how she views herself and the world around her, she'd come out of it a changed, better person. But also she's a girl and needs to realize that."
Sometimes a trans girl who's already on estrogen backslides on the radical self-determination and ends up falling into passivity again. In those cases estrogen would save her (metaphorically) even though she's literally on estrogen.

I need a “humans are space orcs” thing where all sentient species are weird like that, but in their own unique ways
And a lot of them are aware of this (like we are when we make these “humans are space orcs” stories)
Maybe one species enjoys getting bit by something equivalent to mosquitoes. Maybe one actively avoids the hospitable places on their planet because it’s boring without a challenge. You get the gist.
I want to see a bunch of aliens (+humans) sitting around a table talking about how their own species is a bunch of freaks

The thing about "humans are space orcs" is it was originally conceived of as a response to science fiction tropes in which every alien species had its own special thing except humans, whose special thing was either Most Generic, Most Adaptable, or Most Je Ne Sais Quoi. Like, in a lot of science fiction, Klingons are Honorable Warriors, Vulcans are Logical Scientists, Romulans are Cunning Strategists, and humans are all of the above in a way that leaves us slightly less good than any of them at their shtick but better overall and able to triumph because of our lack of specialization and the assumption that we are, somehow, just destined to be the best. See this scene from Enterprise for what I'm talking about. There's a similar scene in Mass Effect where Mordin talks about how humans are more variable and adaptable and less predictable than all the other races in that setting, which is super annoying if you know anything about how much our species is defined by the genetic bottleneck we suffered during the Ice Age -- the generic bottleneck that has left us all so genetically similar to each other that we can do crazy things like donate blood and organs to each other, things other species can't tolerate.
@prokopetz proposed that humans ought to get something special of our own that isn't just "We are the bestest and specialist in some generic way that feels like a vague and unsettling metaphor for American superiority and manifest destiny amidst all the other cultures of the world," and settled on space orcs because "Pursuit predators with freakish endurance" was the ecological niche we occupied during our own evolutionary history up until we started doing the civilization thing. The assumption from the start was that every other sci-fi or fantasy species would each be freaks in their own way, and the point of humans are space orcs was to let us be our own sort of freak, too.
People who expanded on the humans are space orcs stories immediately turned it into a reason to write little stories where humans are the biggest freaks or the only freaks and we are, in fact, the specialest most manifest destinyest je ne sais quoi-laden metaphors for the superiority of American culture over all the other cultures of the world. I hate it I hate it I hate it.
Which is to say you've reinvented the point of humans are space orcs from first principles. That's pretty cool.
I think my mistake was failing to appreciate just how readily "humans have exceptionally high cardiovascular endurance due to our real-world evolutionary history as specialised persistence predators" could be twisted around into "humans have superior Will to Power", which is the other problematic special niche humans have historically been assigned in popular science fiction.

Turns out, you can just. like. *talk* to kids about internet safety, teach them best practices, and foster your relationship as a safe adult they can come to if anything weird starts to go down for them online/if they have questions
Yes, but the type of people who want to do the surveillance state don't want to talk to their kids. They actually, I think, don't like children very much. Certainly they don't think of them as people. It's more about "adults are doing things I don't approve of, and I want more ways to stop them".
A lot of people could benefit from realizing that the vast majority of the time, when someone says a space or resource is “AFAB only”, the thought that this might include trans men or nonbinary people who look masculine has not even remotely crossed their mind. When most people say “AFAB”, they are imagining cis women—and maybe, as an afterthought, nonbinary people that they are able to mentally categorize as basically cis women. Certainly, they never imagine someone who looks like or is a man. Any intersex person who doesn’t look like a cis woman or who didn’t experience growing up as a girl, definitely the furthest thought from their mind by a hundred miles.

If a person's friends are racist and they don't care because it doesn't impact them or they try to reframe their buddy's racist behavior as something else, they are also racist, okay? 🫶
Also if your friends are saying racist, antisemitic and otherwise heinously weird things about people, you may want to consider just not being their friends instead of just sending anons to the people they're talking about. 🫰
Not only is it okay to stop being friends with someone because they're racist, it's the bare minimum thing to do.
And just so we're clear, if you stick around with racists, you can't get upset that you're associated with racism or that people think you're a racist too. Because if your friend's racism isn't enough to end a friendship over, that means you're okay with racism. Being okay with racism means you're racist. Just so you know.

You are the Detective ™ in a murder mystery and are faced with Three suspects in a series of killings in a small town. Who of these three is the Most suspicious to you? All arrived to town around the same time the killing
A photographer who is in town for a nature shoot.
A FBI agent who is an expert on this serial killer
A guy who's in town taking care of his grandfather with severe dementia
The killer: Known for taking photographs of his crime scenes to send to reporters. A handful of people in the communities he's hit have already been falsely arrested on the suspicion of being the killer. and he is known for targeting people who would be missed most.
The photographer: Camps outside of town but comes in frequently to purchase supplies. Generally friendly and eager to show off his work to anyone who holds still long enough. Has no one to vouch for him and is traveling alone.
The FBI Agent: He began working for the FBI around the time the killings started and is always quick to show up because he claims this will be the case that makes his career. He's also alone but checks in with his local cop contact daily.
The Caregiver: His grandfather has been going downhill for years. they have no other family and grandpa doesn't take visitors because he doesn't recognize anyone anymore and gets really freaked out about being surrounded by strangers. But caregiver still makes time to come into town when Gramps is sleeping. The Caregivers mother was the grandfather's daughter and no one's seen her around since she moved.

you can very often tell who actually believes healthcare is a human right by whether they think fat people have to earn it first.
