In so many other instances when he’s having sex in the series, it’s passionate, yet slightly impersonal. It’s more pleasure of the physical act than pleasure with the other person. He’s losing himself rather than enjoying himself.

But here, he’s so tactile with Grace-the caressing, the kissing. It’s very tender, but it’s also very (very) sensual. Tommy  *always* has to be touching her. He simply somehow always has to be in contact with her body continuously throughout this entire scene.

In many ways, the difference between “making love” vs “sex”purely semantics. It’s a vocab choice. But here, it is definitely “making love” more than f*cking. Their connection is not only physical but intensely emotional here. These are two people (especially Tommy) who are not used to be vulnerable with another person. They always have their guards up. Here they are being truly intimate and open.

The constant caressing is them clinging to the first person they’re ever met who has truly understood them. So there’s a hunger here, a desperation. To be seen. To be touched. To be loved.
