White supremacy needs dumbasses.
in so fascinated by borzoi dogs, they are my huge inspiration to do original art they are like magical creatures of dogs
"It doesn't help your credibility to exaggerate, most employers wouldn't literally work you to death" like, I used to work in distribution. If booking a truck driver for back to back shifts until they fall asleep at the wheel, crash, and die counts as being worked to death, I have personally met employers who've worked employees to death and gotten away with a slap on the wrist. It may not be universal, but it's a hell of a lot more common than a lot of us would prefer to think.
The FAA had to explicitly make rules about how long pilots have to have off between shifts, and how far away from their home you can pin their home airport, because it doesn't mean shit that someone has 10 hours between shifts if they have a 2 hour commute each way. They had to make these rules because multiple passenger airplanes crashed because the pilots were exhausted from tight scheduling. Employers won't just work you to death, they'll take a hundred random customers with you.
Happy belated Workers’ Memorial Day, celebrated April 28th
I don't know how anyone can think your bosses won't work you to death when we literally had premature back to work orders during a massive viral pandemic not that long ago. I'm sorry but have y'all memory holed Covid so stubbornly that you can't even draw on recent experience? We went back to work so airlines could make money and our government could pretend everything was fine and white collar bosses wouldn't have to acknowledge how absolutely unimportant and inflated their roles were revealed to be by remote work. Does nobody remember the refrigerated trucks full of bodies in the first couple years of Covid? Does nobody remember how many truly essential workers died? So many of you stopped masking as soon as people up top said it was time to party again, even though rates were still high, people were still dying, and long covid remained a serious risk even with mild infections. If you're willing to kill or disable people just to go to brunch or the bar you better believe they're willing to kill or disable you for profit.
Your employer doesn't give a fuck about you.
I work in healthcare. We were told covid didn't get spread through respiratory methods for two months (while the CDC 100% knew it did just like ALL coronaviruses do) while we wore garbage bags and reused N95 masks while hospital CEOs and administrators who lied to us and made security walk down a new N95 mask every time someone needed a new one worked from home.
I work in OBGYN, where being on call for 48 to 72 hours at a time where you have no back up and are cutting people open during emergency surgeries is considered the industry standard. I'm a hospitalist and work 12-13 hour shifts at a time, even doing that, it didn't prevent my employer from scheduling me so I have to shift from night shift to day shift four times in one week. Do you think they put even a single iota of thought into how being unable to achieve quality REM sleep might affect my ability to safely perform surgery? Nah.
Corporations are willing to give you diarrhea parasites, listeria, and e.coli because they don't wanna provide the people who harvest their food with fucking bathrooms out in the fields. Your boss would push you into a fucking meat grinder if it saved the company 50 cents and the only reason they don't is because of OSHA regulations that are getting torn down every single day.
A person collapsed and died in an Amazon warehouse and the managers literally told people not to provide CPR and keep working lest the average time for packing things go up by one second.
A UPS driver was literally killed during a shoot out of a robbery. He was killed by the cops who were just wildly shooting into traffic. UPS didn't even offer to pay for his fucking funeral.
Your boss would kill you (and their consumers/customers) without a single thought or incentive if they knew they didn't have to be held financially or criminally accountable. We have so many examples of this at this point that you are either hella dumb or hella naive to believe otherwise.
Wake the fuck up.

Nick Offerman Answers the Web’s Most Searched Questions –WIRED, 2020
I just love my girls so much. Winnie cleaned Penelope's ears for 20 minutes today while Penelope snuggled into her.
Seeing them snuggle is so calming.
Currently they are chasing each other through the house. How lucky to be able to hear their little feet pitter-pattering around.

Turns out that taking a medication that turns off the food noise doesn't fix the emotional causes that underly the eating disorder
Been up for an hour.
Ready for a nap.
I am slowly, slowly living out my dream and becoming a cat.
I understand that there are some people who choose to homeschool their kids because they don't want them dying in a school shooting and the school to prison pipeline is very, very real.
That said. The vast majority of people who are homeschooling their kids are doing it in an effort to indoctrinate them at best and isolate and abuse them at worst. At the very least, homeschooling is a way for adults to ensure complete control over their kids' lives, who they interact with, the media they interact with, the things their kids are exposed to and that is not a good thing. It's pathological in the grandest scheme of things and it all but ensures your kids are unprepared for when they enter actual society and have to interact with people who don't hold extremist, cultish views.
I was an Army brat and because we moved all the time we were familiar with a lot of homeschooled kids (when you move so much homeschooling starts to seem like the better option, my parents even considered it for us at one point in time because of how disjointed our education was over our childhoods) and as a kid I could always tell which kids were homeschooled. They are weird, they have no social skills, they have no ability to talk about things outside of their family, they don't understand common things kids talk about. It's like trying to interact with someone who has been living in a bunker their entire life because that's kind of what it is. Even as an adult, I can tell which adults I interact with were probably homeschooled. Being homeschooled significantly impacts a child's ability to connect and relate to others and those struggles continue into adulthood.
Kids need socialization and they need to know there are safe adults out there and when kids are homeschooled they are so incredibly isolated. Even if they have a shit ton of siblings (as they usually do) that is not enough socialization. Getting to know other kids their own age who aren't members of their family gives them a better understanding of what's normal, what's not, and how to navigate those things in a normal way.
And that's not me saying it, if any of you follow people who talk about their previous homeschooling experiences the stories these people tell are horrifying. Teaching girls how to do household chores t serve future husbands, having kids spending hours a day reading scripture and praying, spending the majority of the day acting as a slave to the household, raising younger siblings, being beaten, all being counted as "education" in these unregulated programs. And those are some of the more uplifting stories here at least the parents involved were pretending they were providing their kids an education. Other people talk about how they couldn't even fucking read, were taught racist/white supremacist ideals, etc.
But at the end of the day homeschooling is ultimately a way for parents to ensure they can neglect their children without any annoying involvement from state officials or CPS. Not only does homeschooling ensure emotional neglect and a complete lack of socialization, it also allows parents to never bring their kids to doctors, to dentists, to ignore whether their children are growing and have enough to eat, to ignore vaccinations, annual physicals, etc.. And when they become adults they lack the education to function in society or even have marketable skills to obtain work and that's in the best case scenario because it means they survived that exceedingly neglectful childhood.
And now, there's a social media trend where a lot of parents who homeschool their kids are becoming influencers and using their children to make money on a lifestyle they only show the tip of on websites their kids are never allowed to use or interact with on their own terms. A field trip to the Noah's Ark museum with another Evangelical homesteading family is not fucking educational, it's not socialization, and it's not preparing these kids for shit. If they are even able to go to college they're gonna talk about how the dinosaurs lived with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and everyone is gonna laugh at them and think they're weird and they aren't gonna have the social skills to deal with that in an appropriate way.
Homeschooling should be illegal, straight up, it should have significantly more regulation and oversight than it currently does but it should just be illegal. Private schools should be illegal too. Everyone's kids should be required to go to the same school systems with the same standards and regulations as everyone else's. That includes crazy weird culty Evangelicals AND it includes the kids of rich people and billionaires.
I wish I could have warm fur. Like her.

Same energy as that time in college I told a girl that “the tarot” says she needs to go call her mom and start going to therapy and she fucking did.
absolutely a granny weatherwax moment. “you need to move the outhouse because its presence is bothering the forest spirits and they’re cursing you” because trying to explain about bacteria from the outhouse contaminating the well wasn’t working.
Sometimes you gotta ask yourself ‘Do I want to be right or do I want results?’ and then act accordingly.

I hit my head on a surgical light last night and have a giant goose egg on top of my head.
It hurts.
:(
Also, last night was my last L&D shift of fellowship. I'll finish up my last few shifts on GYN next week.
Re: the debate over DST vs. standard time and why one is better than the other due to health reasons
Seeing people complain about how DST would be terrible because you'd be at work for TWO HOURS before the sun rises and omg I'd be SOOOOO tired while I'm about to enter my eleventh winter in a row not seeing a single sliver of daylight because of how early I get to work and how late I leave and then feeling the immense irony of seeing medical providers saying how bad DST would be for our health while literally working in healthcare ho doesn't give a shit if I see daylight in the winter is really something.
The reality is that if we just permanently went to DST, standard time, or kept things the way it is, my working hours would still prevent me from seeing any daylight during the winter because we ask healthcare workers to work hours that are inhumane.
But, man, some people really need perspective. "Imagine how tired you'd be if you had to wake up three hours before sunrise!". I do that most days and then go on to literally operate on people. Sometimes, I work all night and then stay through the afternoon to perform a complex emergency surgery that lasts 6 hours. Sometimes people have to work when they feel tired. Can you imagine? Oh, the horror. Sometimes, people have jobs where they make life saving decisions while they are tired but the second someone who works from home ordering inventory for grocery stores and has school-aged children has to get up before the sun and GOD FORBID that happen.
Sorry....I'm in a bitter mood.
Every single day there is yet another new headline that shows me how the general public has such a significant luxury of getting to live in a completely different world than people who work in healthcare do. The pandemic. Food safety regulations being reduced. Vaccinations. Even something as simple as deciding how many daylight hours they should have causes a fucking meltdown. It's unreal.
IDK how I'm supposed to make friends outside of healthcare. It's like when I went to my new residency program and heard people complaining about how many call weekends they had and just wanted to scream "these aren't real problems!" while shaking them.
