The first week of classes wasn’t as productive as I had hoped, but, you know what? It’s okay. Returning to the studying routines is sometimes hard and it’s alright.

I did blissfully nothing yesterday. Which was much needed, and it allowed me to be surprisingly productive today. It wasn’t purely studying, but also there’s other tasks in life, yep.

✔️veggies sauté cooked & dishes done

✔️ laundry done

✔️ grocery shopping done

✔️ budgeting/money counting done

✔️ lab prep for tomorrow done (1h 20min on 🌳 in total)

Did hope to complete some other hw too, but I’ll have time to do it tomorrow. Today was good. Slow and steady. One day at a time.

🎵Of Monsters and Men are dropping a new album. Am I excited? I’m hella excited. Love them.

Hey guys! I hope everyone’s having a great weekend.

I had a long week, but we made it through! I’m making very good progress on my journal club presentation. I need to take some time to finalise it but after that I can start practising! I found this paper super interesting, so I’m quite hype to be presenting about it.

I spent most of the week with my head buried in proteins. Either I was performing mutagenesis, bacteria transformation, and sequencing to make sure everything worked, or repeating the extraction of the proteins that didn’t work last week. I’ll find out about the latter on Monday, but I got my sequencing results back yesterday and everything seemed to work fine, so I can start extracting the new proteins next week! This was really good news to receive on a Friday, and I feel like I could go into the weekend peacefully.

I also received another patient sample this week and it was genuinely the biggest thing I’ve ever seen removed from a body. I was truly unaware that a brain tumour to get that big, and I feel truly sorry for the patient that to suffer because of this. I am currently in the process of isolating T cells from the material and all I can do is hope that one day my research will help people like this.

Still, one good thing that came out of this was a long conversation with my dad about what I do with the sample once I receive it, how we ensure patient consent, and generally what a day in my life looks like when I’m in the lab, and as a result of this conversation I decided I would film a vlog for him. I didn’t expect I’d have many interesting things to show, but turns out filming is actually incredibly fun and I had a blast doing it!! The editing process is also very soothing, so maybe this can be something I do again… we shall see.

I’ve spent most of my Saturday cooking and baking in preparation for my parents coming to spend the night. They’re going on vacation tomorrow and I’ll be looking after their cat for the week, so they’re dropping him off and leaving in the morning. I will, of course, be providing pictures of the fat lad.
