Special thank you to everyone who purchased a coconut soap at Woodside Markets yesterday, as we were able to raise $40 to donate to MND research! More receipts to follow, as soon as I get the confirmation email.
One of my dear IRL friends was recently diagnosed with it, and I wanted to do something good to honour her.
GOT THE RECEIPTS
Again, thank you to everyone who donated!
Also, happy pride month from a fellow bisexual! I hope your June is treating you kindly, whether you're in or out of the closet, whether you have a relationship, want one, or are happier without, whether you're old or young or timeless, whether you're transitioning or not, I am wishing you a happy pride!

One of these days, I should figure out how to make an AO3 soap scraping mould thingy, so I can sell fanfiction soap at a convention or something
wash your hands with the new lavish ao3 hand soap. scented like *fandom*
Oh God, what would Fandom even smell like?
I don't think I could recreate body odour and crusty sock smells
Maybe something like clean laundry, lavender and mint?
Alternatively I could make soap based off peoples favourite genres... I have one which is oceanic themed and it could make a nice MerMay soap. Coffee for the coffee shop AU, honey rose for the fluffy stuff...
Oh, here's an awful one. Oat milk and honey for the mpreg enthusiasts.
I'll see myself out
I LOVE THAT SO MUCH.LMFAO
old man yaoi probably smells like cigarettes and old books and wine
Cigarettes, old books and wine?
That's what I feed my tomodachi life residents!

Please, ConcernedApe, I want to adopt Jas!
So cute!
Meet the mascot for my small business, Binky! Binky the Fish on a Trolley originally started as a joke, where he was something of a Watson character to a deranged Holmes. However, I gave him lots of love and he became his own sort of nebulous thing, and I used to draw him on the back of birthday cards I made for friends.
Now as an adult, he's sort of a philosophical concept. If you expect a fish to swim, the fish will excel, but if you expect a fish to climb a tree than the fish may believe it is stupid for the rest of its life. But that's really the Autistic experience, isn't it?
Well, I am a fish in a world full of mammals. Climbing metaphorical trees isn't my strong suit, but I can accommodate myself with a trolley so I can still do fun things. Binky is the perfect representation of disability accommodations and how we can all find our own ways in this wonderful world.
I also have plenty of fishy or marine themed soaps for sale too, so it all works out!
Boss makes a dollar, I make a dime
So I write fanfiction on company time
I'm currently my own boss, does this mean I should be writing fanfiction while waiting for my soaps to cure?

Good news! I'll be selling Beeswax wraps, soap and candles at the Oakbank Hall this Saturday!
I hope you like my wares!
On a side note, should I make an Etsy account?
Here's a neat little soap design I'm proud of:
See this soap right here? Looks a bit like a nightmare from the 80s (no, not that one) on its side
But when you hold it up to the light, it becomes the most beautiful stained glass window design!
Life is too short to have boring soap!
Swing by my stall or send me an ask if you want to buy one of these gorgeous bars for yourself!
I can't stop thinking about this reddit post on soapmaking dude
I cannot express what an insane recipe that is. No one else could grasp it either
Like beeswax doesn't. It kinda just stays as beeswax in the soap. The lye has nowhere to go with it. That liquid seeping out of the soap? The brown and clear drops?? That's lye. That's straight up lye. This mf made the soap equivalent of the Chernobyl elephants foot.
Quick reminder that if you touch lye with your bare hands, it will react with the fatty oils on and in your skin to create soap molecules.
That means it will give you chemical burns while creating human soap.
OP’s comment about the soap equivalent of a Chernobyl elephant’s foot is on point.
Lye (aka sodium hydroxide) turns hydrocarbons/fats into soap.
You are a hydrocarbon.
Please be careful when making soap, because You are a thing that could be used to make soap. And nobody wants to bathe in human soap, no matter how much rosemary you put in it.
I mean, there's no need to throw it away. You could still use it by picking the strongest ingredient you're worried about, like the lye, and then adding a carefully measured piece of this to a future recipe.
Once I made a red spaghetti sauce that was too spicy for my partner. We didn't have anything else in the house so we wound up going out or something, but then a day later she threw it away and I was so pissed! It is possible to make it less hot: you just have to add more marinara sauce or whatever the other ingredients are.
Similarly, you could take this failed attempt at soap and use it as the ingredients that it is, but you still have to add more of the other ingredients that you don't have enough of, if that makes sense. In other words, you can dilute the lye, or whatever.
I could be wrong of course. If there's already a chemical change that's happened here then the whole thing is ruined I guess. But you can dilute stuff. This is an extremely generalizable basic principle. If you make a large coffee and then you put too much sugar in it, make another large coffee and mix the two.
exactly! you can just rebalance the ratios and you're good to go. I'm not good with measurements or ratios and even I know you can take a horrendous mess like this into something that works.
if the lye is squeezing out and the wax just kinda says as wax, I think not much chemically has happened (I'm assuming so much as I've never made soap) so you should reasonably be able to fix it
I have never come across a soap recipe that called for beeswax. Soapmaking side of tumblr, what. What purpose is that supposed to accomplish?
Beeswax typically doesn't undergo the saponification chemical reaction, about half of the wax you put in actually saponifies. It can only be about 1-2% of the total oil weight, but it can be useful for firming up a bar. I am still a bit new to soapmaking but I would assume you'd want to use it in cases where you want something firm to scrape and create unique art from!
Next time you feel foolish, just remember that I once made an impulse decision to sell castille soap at a weekend market, made a whole batch, and only then did I realize that it takes about six weeks to cure.
AuDHD! It's a barrel of laughs!
An example of my soaps- this charming little cat paw soap is made of goats milk and scented with lavender!
