That’s what knowing that Z*tara will be canon in both Natla AND actual Atla is doing for me. I can’t watch the original series either. Maybe Tlok, as independent series, pretending not knowing Katara and Zuko etc.

Zuko and Mai forgetting to announce that they got back together vs the gaang not wanting to upset them by asking, just in case they were holding hands as friends (Aang assumed this a couple times during the breakup and Zuko got all moody)

My years long loyalty to Kataang is finally being rewarded

And after watching Z*tara tease scenes almost 20 years Z*tarians are finally going to get their fanfic into reality. And I can guarantee that writing in that relationship will be was better that writing with Kataang, they'll probably actually say "I love you". It's not going to be good as show but Z*tara fans don't care about that, after all they'll get what they have wanted for a very very long time.

atla purists: lok and the rest of the franchise totally destroyed the integrity of bending that was created in atla. it is a meticulous artfrom that takes years to master. every time a bender in this series moves a finger, it is a movement they have been refining every single day since birth. It is an ancient form of magic far more sophisticated than your average dumbass YA or shonen anime! because it is such that each individual bender is humbled by their own powers and subject to years of #unlock ancient lore before they're ready to correctly perform the most simple of bending. I am so proud my fave show fully understood powerscaling and didn't do something lame like POWER-UPS, ugh.

and another thing: I feel like after the og atla finale, writers were... how do I say this. reluctant? around kataang? there are a couple reasons why that could be. maybe they knew kataang wasn't the fandom favored relationship, hence the "oogies" jokes. maybe they didn't know how to write an established romance. I assume Gene Yang being a Zu//tarian didn't help.

It’s very clear that Bryke and everyone else are doing everything they can to sabotage Kataang. Actually, why they bothered to give us even these bare minimus scenes in the movie? There’s literally can’t be any other reason than the fact that they really want to please both sides (for whatever reason they think that Kataang fans deserve this) and then just rob the small amount of Kataang we finally got.
