Im only almost finshed with season 5 and seen spoilers so bear with me😭

Elena- I was gonna say an A-/B-. I really liked elena from the start for her empathy,kindness and also maybe out of spite of how people portray her as a helpless selfish brat which she isn't. I would give her a perfect score if she wasn't so defensive of damon + how her trying to kill bonnie/how she didn't hear bonnie's voice for an entire summer was handled. I wanna see more of elena and jeremy like she was overprotective of him last season and I like to see her more involved in his life. I feel elena should have had an arc this season about coming to terms with her vampirism . S4 was her adjusting then she went no humanity then before she could decide to tske the cure she used it on katherine then the whole silas drama started. She never wamted to become a vampire and had the choice taken away from her twice, she should not be so well adjusted especially with the revelation that her father experimented on her species like they were labrats like did her S2 speech mean nothing???

Stefan- A. I find him very compelling with his struggles with bloodlust and his guilt over his actions. He lowkey got fucked over this season to me becuase his trauma of literally drowing for 3 months was excused as him not accepting delena then he is basically delena's therapist...

Damon- C. He is interesting on paper but I feel like his character archetype is very common thus it loses value to me becuase of oversaturation. It's like every time he takes a step, he takes four steps back and then we have elena at his side excusing/defending his behaviour. He is funny and gets the job done sometimes but I feel like I would like him more if delena didn't exist becuase elena defends everything he does to the point he is yelling at her ro stop.

Bonnie- A. She has done nothing wrong to me personally, the girl is always willing to martyr herself and im always attracted to those types of characters(which is especially why I love season 2 elena). She truely deserves better than this racist ass writingand her two bum love interests. I hope she gets moments to lash out when she gets her magic back and I look foward to seeing the relationship she has with damon in season 6. Also anchor bonnie is not being handled well considering how she was gone a couple episodes ago and we didn't see more of her experience as the anchor much up until the traveler plotline caught up with her which is where I'm currently at now.

Caroline- C+. I don't hate her, I like her but she lowkey revolves around whatever man she is with at the time lowkey. I didn't feel like that with tyler becuase she was going through her transition and her conflict with her mother and father about vampirism but now it doesn't feel like she has much going about herself. She spent s4 as klaus bait and is noe being set up to be stefan's new lexi/love interest. For example what did she contribute in the plan to turn bonnie into the anchor? Nothing.... and it's sad becuase this is the girl who organises multippe school events like it would be food to see her translate does skills into whenever the gang is planning something.

Matt-B. I don't have like strong feelings about matt but I like him. His relationship with rebekah was cute like how he didn't wear vervain on their summer trip becuase she trusted her. I like his relationship with elena to the point I consider him her family in which elena should have given jeremy to matt when she was leaving for whittlemore. I wanna see more elena and matt scenes like how they were talking in the season 3 finale and also when elena was in denial about jeremy's death.

Jeremy-B+. I my ranking is partly becuase of his relationship with elena becuase I like sibling tropes. Like you said the writers lowkey fumbled, this season I don't think handled jeremy well like in the context of his place as a hunter + homelife with elena. His relationship with bonnie was cute but I don't they should have gotten back together becuase aren't they gonna break up soon after the prison world shit then she gets with enzo? I just feel like bonnie deserves better than a guy that cheated on her with a ghost. Speaking of ghosts that should have been explored more like does he talk to alaric? He sees ghosts whenever he thinks about the person does he straight up not think about anyone he lost? I just wished I saw more of his struggles.

Tyler-B+. He was a good introduction to werewolves and I like his transformation into asshole to friend. However, so much wasted potential, the first successful hybrid but we didn't see his struggles transitioning compared to caroline and elena and he is literally the first hybrid and he could have been a way to show us what they can do. He fucks off to the moutains then comes back then is chased away by klaus then comes back then leaves then comes back and caroline fucks klaus. Julie plec must hate his guts like damn.
