I think the most charitable interpretation of this is that people connect to characters that are like them, and that the experiences of Blackness is so alien to them that the White characters are the only ones that White people connect with. Combine that with the fact that Tumblr is so White as a platform, and you get this issue.

It’s still bad and racist, but it is understandable. People should still do better though. (I’m not trying to justify, I’m trying to come up with an explanation)

I’m not the first person to say this but it’s so odd how a female character gets called a crybaby and annoying for crying and getting stressed out about going through a lot of trauma in their life at very young ages (mostly teenage girls get this energy) but grown ass male characters can complain about their trauma and why it causes them to abuse,Mistreat, sometimes Sa others (especially Women) and the response is “my poor baby he’s so misunderstood and been through so much my poor SHAYLA🥲🥲☹️” very fascinating and totally not sexist behavior
