Embarrassing: The U.S. Is Ranked 182nd In The World Alphabetically
hijab as explained by star wars
here's the original photo btw, just in case anyone wanted to educate themselves this fine evening
@simping-for-fives this is beautiful, bless u
obi-wan as an old iranian granny in a chador, complete with shockingly orange henna'd hair because that's the trademark of any muslim grandma
I'll nitpick to nite that Palpatine's robe is cut exactly, iirc, the same as Obi-Wan's, just joined with a metal clasp, so Palpatine is an old Iranian granny too, by that light.
you are absolutely correct and i have remedied the situation
fun fact for those of ya'll un awair : keep in mind though not all muslims wear hijabs , and can leave their hair open , it is mandatory for some sects but not all , however sometimes we do need to cover our chests by wearing dubatas like a scarf so yuh
also some of these things have subtypes like say the bhurka there is the common bhurka the one covering the whole body where in you can literally wear your pajamas underneath and no one will know ie :
and as we call it here the shuttlecock bhurka :
etc etc there are many sub types so something for everyone :3 and there are many different styles of wearing bhurkas , nikabs and hijabs etc etc plus many ways to make them pretty , ie designer bhurkas , abayas and nikabs etc like this :
designer bridal abaya :
designer bhurka:
etc etc , so you can badassle them up be it for a wedding or if you feeling fancy but keep in mind designer or even sometimes regular abayas and bhurkas are hella expensive sooo rip , even so tho they are v.v cool and pretty so yeh , do with all that what you will :3
Excuse my ignorance, but how do these women do anything, they appear to have no arms!?
so we actually donโt have any arms
no sir, the moment we put on our hijabs, the holy spirit kisses us on the forehead and takes our arms
Iโm crying please just give me a straight answer how do they pick things up!?!?

Is there rly any softer scene than when o'malley sees duchess and falls in love with her at first sight in the aristocats, complimenting her at every turn and climbing into a cherry blossom tree to make the flower petals snow gracefully down on her? How dreamy ๐ฅ๐
This Is Love ๐๐
Not to mention when he found she had kids, he was thrown for a second, then proceeded to not only still help her, but dote on them too.
โNot all menโ youโre right, Abraham DeLacey Giuseppe Casey Thomas OโMalley would never.
I know Iโm detailing a bit here, but hear me outโฆ Is his name that long because thatโs all of the names different homes/haunts have given him over his lifetime?

Watching my toddler figure out how to language is fascinating. Yesterday we were stumped when he kept insisting there was a โLego winnerโ behind his bookshelf - it turned out to be a little Lego trophy cup. Not knowing the word for โtrophyโ, heโd extrapolated a word for โthing you can winโ. And then, just now, he held up his empty milk container and said, โMummy? Itโs not rubbish. Itโs allowed to be a bottle.โ - meaning, effectively, โI want this. Donโt throw it away.โ But to an adult ear, thereโs something quite lovely about โitโs allowed to be a bottle,โ as if weโre acknowledging that the object is entitled to keep its title even in the absence of the original function.
Another good post to read for those writing small human characters.ย
My son was about three when he came to me in the middle of the day and said,ย โMommy, thereโs a knight behind the bush.โ I thought he meant a toy knight or something. So I follow him outside and he goes,ย โListen. Do you hear it? Itโs night behind the bush.โ It was a cricket. A cricket was standing in the little patch of shade under the bush, chirping. So, my son saw this dark area with accompanying nighttime sounds and decided, okay, well, that is a night right there. Their brains are incredible.
My little bean knows sheโs two, constantly saying proudly โIโm two!โ And the other day she saw this very frail old lady who looked one foot in the grave, pulled a face and said โoh shiiiit. Sheโs three.โ I almost screamed.
I live in Korea and have a lot of international friends, and the same is true with language barriers in adults.ย
*Looking at a bowl of pears*ย โCan you please pass me theโฆ appleโs friend?โย
Every now and then i stumble upon this post anf each time there are new additions in comments and reblogs and each time my heart melts a bit as i read through them. Faith in humanity restored. At least for now
me forgetting the word for โeggโ in Arabic over dinner and complimenting the chef on the way she prepared โthe son of the chickenโ
me calling something a horse garage because I couldnโt remember the word stable
I forgot the word door and ended up saying opening wall
My 2 year old daughter has been basically non verbal for the last year or two because of fluid in her ears. She got the tubes inserted and has been in speech therapy for almost 7 months now and has made amazing leaps. Her current favorite things to say are โmamaโ โdaddyโ โnoโ and โdogโ though she does know other words. One of my favorite instances was when my brother (her guncle as we call him) opened the door really fast behind her and startled her and she whipped around and said, โoh shit!โ Before pointing at him and yelling โnoโ before running inside. She had him laughing so hard then
Might fuck around and accept the things I cannot change
might go wild and have the courage to change the things i can
Would be funny if I had the wisdom to know the difference
this movie is so fucking creepy jesus fuck
Itโs by Tim Burton, what did you honestly expect?
Actually, itโs Henry Selick, who was the director of The Nightmare Before Christmas. The book was written by Neil Gaiman, though, and is farโฆfarโฆ.worse.
Sorry, Iโm about to geek the hell out.
The movie is captivating, but the book is twenty kinds of terrifying, even now, ten years after I first read it. As disturbing as the movie may have been to some, the things Selick added really serve to cushion just how horrific the story really is.
First of all, the character of Wybie does not exist in the book. Coraline is facing all of this nearly alone, with her only help coming from the sly comments of the cat, a warning from the circus mice, and the stone given to her by her neighbor, presented with no comment but that it โmakes the unseen seen.โ
Second, the Other Parents are never quite as warm (and, dare I say, normal) as they are in the gifs above. Theyโre described as having paper-white skin and the Other Motherโs hair is said to move on its own, and her long, red, claw-like nails donโt ease any uncertainty that she is absolutely, positively up to no good. The first time Coraline meets them, they (and the rest of the Others) seem to be playing roles (for whatever reason, Coraline does not seem to pick up on this), like they all know what to say and what to do and are simply waiting for Coraline to make her move in their terrifying play world. This is shown to be partly true when the Other Parents tell her they know sheโll be back soon after she refuses the buttons - this time, to stay.
Third, the Other Mother commits atrocities that really should not have been in a book for anyone not fully grown up. She physically deforms the world around Coraline to slow her progress in their game beyond any mild traps the movie portrays, and, instead of turning the Other Father into the wandering pumpkin-thing seen in the film, she simply ceases to use him and throws his body away in the cellar, leaving him to rot with whatever bit of sentience he has left. She begins to lose her touch, as Coraline gains the upper hand. Her world doesnโt just become a nightmare - it falls apart completely. No creepy but oddly cool bug furniture here, just the house that now appears to be a childโs drawing. Whatever the Other Mother is (a beldame, but something tells me sheโs much more ancient and powerful than that), she does not give half a hump about what she has to do to ensnare Coraline. Destroy the supporting characters of her twisted creation? Done. Allow herself to be dismembered to ruin Coralineโs life in the normal world? Not even gonna bat an eyelash.
On a final, personal note, imagine eight year-old me, ignored by my parents, absorbed in the story and identifying with Coraline from the start. Imagine me finishing this bloodcurdling book and immediately thinking of my basement, where there is still a locked door that my grandmother swears up and down is nothing more than a storage room, but has not once in my (or my motherโs) lifetime unlocked.
Can you see why this book still scares me?
Fun fact I learned from seeing neil gaiman speak: when he first wanted the book published, his editor said it was too scary. He suggested she read it to her young daughter, and then decide. So she did, and her daughter wasnโt afraid, and it was published. Years later, Gaiman was sitting next to that daughter at an event and told her this story, and she said โoh I was terrified I just didnโt want to tell my momโ.
Coraline WAS too scary to be published, but exists anyway because a girl lied to her mother.
@neil-gaiman, is this true about the publisherโs daughter?
It was my literary agent, Merrilee Heifetz who read it and said โyou canโt seriously expect this to be published as a childrenโs book.โ So I suggested she read it to her daughters. And she called me back a week later and said โThey love it and they werenโt scared at all. Iโll take it to Harper Childrenโs.โ
A decade later, at the Opening Night of the Coraline musical, I was sitting next to Morgan, Merileeโs youngest daughter, and told her how her not being scared had made the book happen. And she said โI was terrified. But I needed to find out what happened next. So nobody knew.โ
So, yes.
This website can be toxic at times, but the fact that people can just tag Neil Gaiman to get his input, like a sorcerer invoking a benevolent spirit, is definitely a bright spot.
will never forget when i worked in a fast food joint. some customer wrote like โ86 cherriesโ on their mobile order, as like a pretentious way of say no cherries, but the store was run by a bunch of high schoolers who are working their first job so they collectively went โwhy the fuck does this guy want 86 fucking cherriesโ and like piled them onto his milkshake
important to note that op wrote destiel fanfiction about this post in the notes
