Twisted Wonderland: A Cinderella Story || Chapter 6 - Missing Slipper
Yuu is Fem!Reader. Twst X Reader story
Yuu stood in front of the prince, not knowing what to say, all eyes were on them. âUhâŠâ Yuu looks around, for anyone she knows, but her classmates who were trying to intervene were being stopped by guards, as ordered by the king.Â
Seeing no way out, and all the eyes on her, she decided to answer. âUh, I'm sorry.â This made the prince tense, âBut I promised a friend that I would dance with them first.â Yuu whispered to the prince, who was shocked. He smiled, and whispered back, "I'll have to ask for their forgiveness then." He gently led Yuu towards the center of the dance floor, people immediately moving out of the way. âUh.â Yuu followed him, not wanting to fall, she also noticed the hold the prince had on her wasn't tight, he was still giving her an opening to walk away if she truly wished to. Yuu didn't mind dancing with this stranger, but she wanted to keep her promise to Malleus.Â
Yuu and Prince charm reached the center of the ball, everyone's eyes on them, suddenly the lights changed, and the music changed to a waltz. The king was commanding everyone silently, trying to set the mood for his son.Â
Yuu was confused with the mood shifting, âUh ok.â The prince was embarrassed, knowing what his father was doing, he just wished he was more subtle about it though. She felt all the eyes on them, âThey are all looking at you.â She whispered to him, he smiled, placing a gentle hand on her waist. âTrust me they are looking at you.â He whispered back, before noting to the music, Yuu following his lead not wanting to embarrass herself or him in front of everyone. âIâll make it up to Hornton later.â She thought before giving her attention to the gentlemen in front of her.Â
As they danced elegantly to the music, a few RSA students watched with envy.Â
Riddle was pouting, which did not go unnoticed by Cater, âItâs just a dance Riddle.â Cater tried to sooth their house warden, Hmp of course it is only proper to accept a dance with the princeâŠâ 'Doesn't mean Iâm happy about it.â He thought to himself, crossing his arms as he watched the two closely making sure the prince wasnât trying anything.Â
Kalim and Jamil were watching the dance as well, Kalim was looking at them with pure admiration. Kalim turned to Jamil to see his reaction, but was met by a blank expression, he looked down and saw that Jamil was holding a very tight closed fist. âAre you hungry, Jamil?â Kalim asked, completely oblivious to the jealousy oozing out of his attendant. Jamil just wanted to focused eyes on the two, thinking. Just thinking.Â
Floyd was attempting to intervene, but Jade had a tight grip on his shoulder, keeping him in place. âThat stupid trout.â Floyd muttered, glaring daggers at Prince Charm. âWait a moment, Floyd.â Jade said with a smile, that it was lightly twitching. âHeâs trying to steal our shrimpy.â Beside them, Azul stared intently at the two dancing together. âNow, now Floyd, letâs not speak such jokes.â The two eels turned towards their housewarden. âAfter all, our dear prefect is quite loyal.â Azul reassured, however it seemed to be more of a reassurance for himself than the brothers. âTrue, but it would be best to keep an eye on things.â Jade nodded, still keeping Floyd in place.Â
A bit closer to where the two were dancing, stood Vil who was holding his drink tightly, beside him were Rook and Epel who looked uneasy. âUh VilâŠâ Epel whispered, seeing the dark look the Vil held, reminding him of the VDC competition. âYes, Epel?â Vil's voice was cold, Epel knew it wasnât intended for him, but he was the one that ended up receiving it. âUh I just think that maybe you should.â Epel eyes fell to the glass in Vil hand, Lighten your grip a bit." The glass seemed moments away from cracking. âI agree with Monsieur Pommette.â Rook walked closer to Vil, placing his hand on top of his, taking hold of the glass, âI would be a true tragedy if this glass were to cause any harm to your beautiful hands.â Vil sighed letting the glass go, for Rook to take. âHm apologies for worrying you both, I seemed to be deep in thought.â Rook and Epel shared a quick glance, noting to keep Vil away from any contact with the Prince. For both of their sake's.Â
Near the food table, Ruggie was working on stuffing the food containers in a bag he had bought for Sam, which seemed to have endless room. âUh Ruggie.â Jack called out, sounding unsure. Ruggie jumped before seeing that it was Jack, âAh good it's just you Jack, what is it?â Ruggie asked, standing up, looking at the tall freshmen. âI was hoping you'd check in on Leona, he seems to beâŠâ Jack looked over to where Leona was standing, when Ruggie looked over he saw a terrifying sight. Leonaâs eyes followed the prince's movements, focus not wavering for a moment. Similar to a lion tracking its next kill, refusing to let the prey get away. âOh no.â Ruggie's ears flattened against his head in worry. Ruggie walked closer to him, âHeya boss, you know I saw that there is this garden in the of this castle, would be a good place to-â Leona tail flicked, making Ruggie jump. Ruggie looked over at Jack pleading for help, but Jack was just as unsure of what to do. Leona didn't say a word, just watching.Â
Leonaâs eyes weren't the only ones following the princes every step. Ortho was desperately trying to get his brother out of the little corner he found refuge in, but Idia was in too much shock to move. âNo no no.â He kept mumbling to himself, he had been doing this since the twoâs dance began. âNii-chan?â Ortho tried again but was met with the same response, âHow, what could have triggered the prince route, she was nowhere near him, and she isn't some fake villainess, or some helpless heroine.â Idia kept trying to figure out how they got to this situation, and how to undo the romance effect that was taking place. âOh maybe this is the route that opens the heroine's eyes, and she sees that the prince is a stuck up snob.â Idia muttered quickly, in a hopeful tone. Ortho seemed to finally understand his brother's words, âAh worry not Nii-chan he isn't even close to being as amazing as you!â Ortho comforted his brother. Who was begging to self doubt, âBut he is a prince, and a good looking one as well. What if he does charm the prefect?â Ortho thought for a moment, âWhat if heâs not interested in her?â Ortho tried to reason, Idia turned to his little brother with a blunt face. âHeâs a guy!â
Idia wasnât the only one complaining, Grim was making a fuss, as he attempted to struggle in Lilia arms. âGrr, how dare that prince steal my spotlight with my henchhuman!â Sebek was complaining but for a different reason, âHow dare that human break her promise to Malleus.â Silver watched the dance, âI don't believe she had much of a choice Sebek, one canât exactly turn down a princeâs request.â Malleus didnât say a word, just watching, his eyes focused. Gray dark clouds forming outside the castle, thunder slowly following it. âI heard Yuu turn him down politely, but he still took her to the dance floor.â Malleusâ jaw tighten, âWhat a lack of manners this Prince Charm has.âÂ
Yuu was so focused on not stepping on her dance partner's feet, that she didn't notice that the prince was whispering something to himself. The music they were dancing to was coming to an end, along with the Prince's spell. As the last note played, a stream of glitter surrounded them, causing the crowd to be blinded for a moment. When the sparkling light was gone, and the crowd regained their sight, they two were gone.Â
The king who had watched the whole dance with complete interest, just chuckled. âThat boy.â The king left as easily, finally a girl caught his son's interest. However, the king was the only one pleased with the situation. The ball mood immediately took a turn.Â
Outside, in the back of the castle was a beautiful garden, where Yuu and Prince Charm appeared. Yuu looked around confused, moving away from the prince. âWhat? Where are we?â Yuu asked, standing on edge. âAh sorry, I just wanted to get us away from the crowd's eyes.â Prince Charm held his hands up, showing that he is no threat. Yuu looked at him oddly, before really taking in her surroundings, a beautiful garden. What really caught her eye was the fountain, endless sparkling clear water flowed through the air.Â
Prince Charm noticed that Yuu was taking in the fountain's beauty. âI had this built in my mothers memory.â He pointed to the fountain, at the top thereâs a stature of a woman who is pouring water from her vase. Yuu looked at him, seeing that he was fondly staring at the fountain. Yuu didn't quite know what to say in this situation, the mood turned awkward, and she wasn't the only one who felt it. Charm was beating himself up, âWhy did I say that. Now it seems like I was fishing for sympathy.â
They both stood there awkwardly, âItâs beautiful, I can tell how much love you put into this.â Yuu decided to end the awkward silence, and the prince's chest felt light. âYes she was incredibly kind, her and my father have the truest love I've ever seen.â Yuu smiled at the thought, âShe sounds lovely.â Prince Charm remembered his mothers smile in Yuuâs, how she would listen happily to the stories he made up.Â
Yuu and the Prince began to chat for a while, so much so they completely forgot about the ball. Whoâs attenders were searching for the two.
âRah! Where is Yuu, that no good human kidnapped her!â Grim complained as he looked around for Yuu. Grim wasnât the only one looking for Yuu, Silver and Sebek had been instructed to search for her as well, but in the last hour, she had not been found, and the guards were of no help, the king had instructed them to keep everyone away from his son and the mysterious maiden.Â
Leona attempted to make it outside, however the guards were refusing to let him through. âLet me through.â Leona growled, the guards were on edge, but held firm. âWe apologize Prince Kingscholar, but our orders come from King Kingston.â They both responded. Leona scoffed, before looking at the King who didnât seem interested in the ball anymore, now that his son is gone.Â
Malleus was making the same attempt, the guards were shaking, and sweating bullets. âPrince Draconia, our silent apologies, but we have been order-â A flash of lighting, followed by the loud sound of thunder. âAck!â The guards jumped, feeling small under the gaze of an angry dragon. âNow sirs, I'm sure we can just step out for a moment.â Lilia smiled, but it was not a friendly smile, more of a warning.Â
Many ladies who had come from nobility were searching for Prince Charm, questioning who he was dancing with, they asked around, but no one seemed to know of her. At least that's what they thought, many of the Night raven students did confirm her identity, in order to avoid the wrath of a few head dorm students.Â
However, the room was about to face another wrath. Grim was getting sick and tired of being ignored, and wanting to find Yuu. âThatâs it!â He exclaimed before running to a window. âIâll just make my own exit!â Riddle heard this, and immediately started searching for Grim but it was too late. Grim started shooting fire at the windows, in order to break the glass, but they didn't reach the glass, they ended up hitting the curtains. Grim didn't notice, and continued to set flames, which started to spread quickly. This absolutely did not go unnoticed by the party. âFire!â A guard yelled in alarm, many guards moved to put the fire out, but it just kept spreading.Â
âOh these are Grim flames.â Jade said, looking as the fire spread, âHuh, it seems Sealie wanted to light the place up.â Floyd jokes, laughing, as he watches everyone start to panic.Â
âSomone put it out!â A woman called out, seeing that the ends of her dress were being burnt. âOh dear.â Rook came up to the women, patting the dress to put the small fire out. âPardon me madam.â Vil looked around, trying to find Grim and Riddle. âWhere is he?âÂ
The Night Raven Professors immediately started to search for the dire beast as well, as the Royal Sword professors worked on putting out the flames.Â
Yuu and Charm were chatting and laughing together as they sat on the fountain, both enjoying each other's company. Their conversation was cut short, when they heard a loud cry, they both turned back to the castle, and could see a blue light coming from the windows that were soon broken. âWhat the seven?â Yuu asked, standing up in a panic, immediately worrying for her friends that are inside the castle. The prince stood with her in a panic. âFather.âÂ
âYour highness!â A guard yelled out, causing Charm to turn to him. Yuu looked over confused, before understanding who the guard was referring to. âPrince?â Yuu felt like face palming herself, âOf course heâs the prince, with all my luck why not, causing trouble for another prince, because two wasn't enough.â Yuu shook away her panicking thoughts, âI got to go.â Yuu said more to herself than to the prince, heading inside to help Grim and the others.Â
âWait!â the prince called but was stopped by the guards, âSir we need to get you out of here.â âYes there is a beast on the loose in the castle, we must get you to safety.â Both guards urged him. The prince thinks for a moment, âI know father can handle himself, and he has Sebastian with him.â Prince Charm decided, he took off past his guards, going after Yuu.Â
Yuu ran into the castle moving past the people who were leaving in a panic. Yuu looked around, and saw that the palace was covered in blue flames, reminding her of her first day in this world. âOf course it's because of Grim. It was going to be him or Crowley.â Yuu complained, before spotting Jack who was helping out a few students with their burns. âJack!â Yuu ran over to him, but was stopped when a flaming line came in front of her, âLook out!â Yuu was about to be hit by a large curtain falling, but was carried out of the way.Â
When they were away from danger Yuu looked at her savior seeing that it was a familiar face. Yuu smiled wide, âSilver thank you!â She hugged him in relief. âAre you alright?â Silver asked, doing a quick look over Yuu, checking for injuries. âI'm fine, thank to you.â Yuu stood straight again, she looked around them, âHave you seen Grim or anyone else from our school?â Silver shook his head, âNo I have not, me and Sebek immediately started searching for Grim by Malleus orders.â Silver keeps a protective arm around Yuu, making sure she is safe. âBut Iâll get you out first, I'm sure Sebek has found Grim.â As if they summoned him, running past them was Sebek carrying a struggling Grim. âStay still, beast!â Sebek yelled, as he ran, Grim just made noises of complaints.Â
â...â The two didnât say anything, in shock of what they just witnessed. âA loud mouth carrying another loud mouth.â Yuu joked, Silver thought it was funny, but didnât let it show. âLetâs go.â Silver helped Yuu get to the front. As Yuu and Silver were running out, Prince Charm entered the ballroom, but many people were getting in the way for him to pass.Â
As Silver and Yuu ran down the steps to get to the carriages, Yuu tripped a bit, causing one of the slippers to come off, Yuu was about to go back for it, but people continued to flood out of the castle, so she had no choice but to leave it behind. Silver took a tight hold of her hand, and guided her to their carriage, where Malleus, Lillia and Sebek, with a complaining Grim, were waiting. As she got in, she could hear the big bell, which was by the castle, ring as it struck midnight.

SUMMARY: you were just trying to get some food when you are suddenly faced with a child who is freezing the cafeteria. but the most surprising thing was that he called you mother and has an undeniable resemblance to both yourself and malleus.
PAIRING: malleus draconia x reader
WARNINGS: biological children are implied and the usage of mother
It was time you put your foot down and stop your food from being stolen. Well, you didn't really put your foot down. You just told your friends that you would eat later in the cafeteria when they all went. It was a drastic measure, but you couldn't continue living like that.
Every time you, Deuce, Ace, and Grim ate together, you never got nearly enough food in your stomach, because Ace and Grim seemed to believe that your food was also their food.
So now you were on your way to have lunch on your own. Hopefully, someone you knew is also still there. Otherwise, it will be super awkward to sit at a table with a bunch of strangers. It will make you self-conscious of how you eat...
But it seems you didn't need to worry about eating right now.
A group of students came frantically running from the cafeteria, nearly knocking you over in the process. You barely got out of the way in time by stepping between two statues in the hallway.
One of your fellow students seemed to have the same idea, because he squeezed himself beside you, so he could catch his breath for a moment.
"What is going on? Why is everyone running?" you asked him, seizing the opportunity to get answers without needing to possibly get involved in the chaos.
The unknown student took a few heavy breaths before answering. "An attack! Someone is freezing the cafeteria. I think some students even got frozen."
"What?" You were in disbelief that it was really that bad. "Are you sure it's not just a prank from a few mischievous students or ghosts?"
"I know what I saw. That definitely wasn't a prank!" the student said, clearly offended youâd even suggest it.
You turned to the entrance of the cafeteria when you felt the temperature in the hallway drop. You couldn't see anything from your place. But you could feel the pressure of magic in the air. It felt powerful. So it must be true what the student said. But there were only a handful of things that could charge the air with this amount of magic.
"Was it an Overblot?" you asked the student, now sharing his panic.
"I don't know. Do you think I stayed long enough to check?" he snapped at you, before his voice returned to a more civilized tone. "I don't think I saw blot ink or a phantom anywhere... But does it even matter? We should get outta here and let someone else deal with whatever is in the cafeteria."
The student didn't wait for you and instead sprinted off. You wanted to follow, but stopped when you suddenly heard what sounded like the hysterical cry of a child.
Your breath hitched as the temperature dipped again, cold nipping at your cheeks and frosting the edges of the hallway tiles. The crack of ice spreading echoed faintly from the cafeteria doors. And then that cry came again.
Who would bring a child to Night Raven College? And why would they be alone?
The impulse to run warred with your instincts. But something about the sound rooted you in place. A chill that had nothing to do with ice crept up your spine.
So once again, throwing any sense of self-preservation out the window, you decided to investigate the cafeteria.
As you approached the entrance, a thin layer of ice curled and crept across the floor beneath your feet. The temperature was dropping as if the air itself recoiled with sadness.
And then you saw it.
The cafeteria doors were open, hanging slightly ajar, frost spiderwebbing from their hinges. The cafeteria was a frozen winter scene. Tables were rimmed with rime. Plates of forgotten lunches sat frozen mid-bite. Students who hadnât escaped in time were partially encased in thick magical ice. Thankfully, it didn't seem like they were injured. They are just trapped.
And in the center of it all, curled up and trembling within a growing circle of frost, was a boy.
He couldnât have been older than five or six. His hands covered his face as sobs wracked his tiny frame. You were struck by the sight of such a young child in this place. A child who seemed so out of place amidst the suffering he unintentionally caused.
The ice creeped outward with each of his hiccupping sobs, the magic surging with raw, unchecked emotion. His hair shared the same color as yours. Small horns peeked out from beneath the tousled locks. They were curved, and unmistakably draconic.
Your breath hitched.
Horns.
The resemblance to Malleus was impossible to ignore. Not just the horns, but also the gentle curve of the boyâs brow, and the elegant bone structure of his tear-stained face. But there was something in his eyes, when he finally looked up at you. They were wide, watery, and impossibly green. But lacking the sharp edge Malleus would have had. The boy's eyes were softer and his nose cute. That hit deeper.
Not like Malleus. Like... you.
You looked at the boy in silence for a few moments, not sure what to say. "Eh... Are you hurt?" you asked eventually your tone of voice awkward, as you tried to smile reassuringly at him.
The boy's big, round eyes were staring at you. He blinked a few times. "M-mother...?"
Huh?
Before you could ask or clarify anything, the boy ran toward you and launched himself into your arms. His tiny frame seemed to hide an impossible strength, because you felt like he would actually snap your spine if he hugged you any tighter. "Mother!!"
You were as frozen in place as the unfortunate students, who didn't get away in time. You didn't know how to handle this situation. You were pretty sure you didn't spawn a child in your time in Twisted Wonderland. The only thing coming close to a child you took care of was your ever-hungry cat-weasel companion. Certainly not a real breathing kid.
Despite your inexperience with children, you could tell that explaining to this traumatized, and very much powerful little boy, that you can't be his mother, wasn't a smart idea. So you just told yourself that he just called every woman 'mother'. That's something children do, right?
You patted the boys back in hopes his crushing grip on you would loosen at least a little. "There, there. Everything is fine."
Well, actually, nothing was fine, but you also needed the reassurance of your own words.
You gently pried his arms away enough to kneel down in front of him. "Can you tell me what happened here?"
"Everything was different and strange. Not like home. I was here, and there were so many people and-" His words were interrupted by a wrenching sob. "I was scared, and I didnât mean to! I just wanted you, but-b-but you werenât there, and then everyone started running and they yelled at me, and, and-"
As the coldness in the air heightens again, you rub the boy's shoulders gently, despite feeling slightly panicked that he might freeze the entire school. "It's fine. It's fine. You were just scared. No one will get angry with you," you smiled at him. "Do you maybe know a way to fix this?"
He shook his head. "No. Father always does."
"Well, it's not that important anyway. The Headmage will figure something out... Probably," you say when you saw his face twisting with guilt. Although you could feel the stare of a frozen student nearby, who definitely does not agree with you.
The boy nodded at your words.
You paused. You didnât even know his name. Just calling him 'boy' is certainly weird. "Say, do you remember your name?"
He looked at you in silence before suddenly beginning to cry again, leaving you very confused. "Why are you acting like you donât know me? I donât like this game!"
Someone seemed to be sensitive. While you had no experiments with children, Grim certainly taught you how to deal with sudden mood swings and tantrums. Although using tuna as a distraction probably won't work.
"But how can I be sure you are the real you and not a spy, if you won't tell me the right answer?" you replied playfully, poking his stomach. "So? What's your name?"
He giggled when you poked him and stopped crying. "You are being silly, Mother," he said. "My name is Maledor, of course!"
You nodded, as if you knew that as well. Hoping that he didn't turn the tables on you to test you, and said the wrong name. But certainly a child wouldn't do that, right?
"Aha! Maledor. Thatâs a perfectly real name. Youâre clear. No spy here."
You think about what you should do next. Seeing that no help or rescue had come in all this time, you could assume that none of the students who got away actually told the staff. You shouldnât be surprised by that. After all, this was a school full of self-centered and mischievous students.
You couldnât leave Maledor alone. And you had little faith that going to Crowley for help would do anything. He would end up dumping the work on you anyway, so you might as well search for a solution on your own, before Ramshackle gets a new member.Â
By Maledor's pointy ears and little horns, it wasnât hard to tell that he must be a fae. So, going to Diasomnia is probably the best course of action. Maybe someone there knew who this little boy belonged to. And maybe Malleus or Lilia can defreeze the cafeteria.Â
You took Maledor by the hand as you led him to the Diasomnia Dorm. Every so often, his grip would tighten, like he was making sure you wouldnât suddenly disappear. As soon as you went through the mirror and arrived on the bridge that led to the castle, which was the dorm, you could feel Maledor visibly relaxing.
"This is better! I like it here. It looks like home," he said with a cheerful voice. Seemed like you did good by bringing him here.Â
Right when you were about to enter the dorm, Sebek suddenly crossed your path. His sharp eyes fell upon Maledor. "Human! Why do you have a fae child with you?!" he demanded. Then somehow jumped to: "Have you kidnapped him?! Hand over the child at once!"
"When do you think I kidnapped a magical fae child, from its magical parents?" you shot back. "Do you think I walked to Briar Valley and back in an afternoon?"
Sebek didnât listen to your words to hung up on the idea that you kidnapped a child. Like that wasnât something faes usually did to humans, right?
"I said hand over the child!" he shouted, before trying to grab Maledor.
You didnât know why, but a sudden protective streak came over you, and you stepped in front of Maledor, blocking Sebeks' hand. "Donât just grab a child!"
Sebek recoiled, shock flickering across his face at your boldness. "Are you impeding one of Lord Malleus' loyal knights, human?"
Sebek tried to grab Maledor again, not listening to you. Maledor, on the other hand, obviously did not want to be grabbed by Sebek and was hiding further behind you, grabbing your jacket. "Mother, I donât want to goâŠ!"
When Maledor said that, Sebek paused. "M-Mother..?" he repeated, shocked. For a second, you think Sebek might actually let you explain the situation, but he immediately began shouting again. "How dare you steal away a fae child and then confuse it so much?! What wicked human trickery have you used?!"
You grit your teeth, trying hard not to let Sebek's ear-splitting accusations break your patience or your eardrums. "I didnât do anything to him! And can you not yell? Youâre scaring him." You glance at Maledor, who is now peeking nervously from behind your leg, clutching your jacket tightly.Â
Sebek falters only a split-second before putting himself between you and the entryway. This standoff would be comical if it werenât so tense. "I will not allow a potential kidnapper entrance to Prince Malleusâs domain!"
"Look, I didnât kidnap anyone," you said. "He appeared in the cafeteria, scared, and accidentally froze half the room. I thought someone in Diasomnia might recognize him or help fix the mess."
Sebekâs eyes darted from you to Maledor and back. "You expect me to take the word of a human? Of Night Ravenâs resident troublemaker?"
Sebek's next rant was kept short when suddenly Lilia appeared swinging between the two of you. You screamed. Then Sebek screamed. And Maledor giggled.Â
Lilia landed lightly between you and Sebek, his eyes glinting mischievously as always, although there was a subtle alertness there. "My, my. Such excitement at the gates! Am I crashing a secret meeting?" he laughed.
You tried to catch your breath. How did Lilia always manage to appear exactly when you least expected it? "Lilia! Donât sneak up like that," you gasped, half-laughing but mostly frazzled.
Sebek, who was embarrassed for also screaming, now tried to act as if he didnât. "L-Lilia! The Prefect has procured a fae child and refuses to answer for it!"
"Oh? My, what an adorable little visitor we haveâŠ" Lilia said, studying Maledorâs face with recognition. He seemed to be delighted by Maledor.Â
"Uncle Lilia!" Maledor said, before coming out from behind you.Â
"Uncle?" you repeated, flabbergasted as you watched Maledor and Lilia interact as if they were long-lost family. "Do you know Maledor, Lilia?"
Liliaâs smile widened, a spark of mischief glittering in his eyes as he knelt down to Maledorâs level. "Of course I know this one," he said. "Itâs been some time since weâve had such a precious visitor from, shall we say, afar."
Maledorâs worry seemed to melt under Liliaâs reassurance. "Uncle Lilia, whereâs Father?" he sniffled, rubbing at his eyes. "Everythingâs scary and cold."
You blinked, looking between the two of them, feeling very much like youâd accidentally walked into someone elseâs family reunion in the middle of things. "Wait, you really do know him?" you asked Lilia, carefully keeping your voice level.Â
Meanwhile, Sebek had gone uncharacteristically quiet, torn between his usual outrage and a suspicion that something much bigger than an abduction was happening.
Lilia stood up. His gaze softened as he addressed Maledor. "Donât worry, Maledor. Your father is very busy today, as are all great kings-in-training. Why donât you stay with your-" Liliaâs eyes danced over to you, and the corners of his mouth twitched as if privately amused by some secret. "beloved caretaker for now? Iâm sure theyâll keep you safe."
Sebek straightened, suspicion not quite dispelled. "Are you certain, Sir, that the Prefect has not enchanted this child into believing-"
"Sebek," Lilia interjected. "Surely you would not accuse our dear Prefect of such underhanded magic?"
Sebekâs mouth opened and closed, before he replied. "IâŠI would never dare suggest you are incapable of seeing through such tricks, Sir! But this situation is most unusual. We must consider the safety of Prince Malleus. And yet the Prefect is still refusing to offer a proper explanation!"
Sebek puffed out his chest but glanced uneasily at Maledor, who peeked from behind you, still clutching your jacket. Despite his horns and emerald eyes, Maledor looked anything but menacing. Nevertheless, Sebek clung to the role of vigilant sentinel.
You took a deep breath, trying not to get annoyed. "I already told you that I found Maledor in the cafeteria, scared and alone. I donât know anything else. And anyway, if he were out to get Malleus, freezing the cafeteria wouldnât exactly be subtle, right? And who would send a child in the first place?"
Sebek seemed ready to continue his barrage of suspicions, but Lilia only chuckled. He bent down, gently patting Maledorâs shoulder while casting a reassuring glance your way. "I think what we all need right now is some warmth and a calm mind. The hallway is no place for important discussions or guests. Why not bring our little visitor and the prefect inside? Come, letâs have tea. We can sort out facts and fancies over something sweet, hm?"
Maledorâs eyes brightened at the mention of sweets. He nodded, tugging lightly at your sleeve as if afraid youâd vanish again.Â
All of you headed inside. When Lilia offered to brew the tea and bring some sweets, you immediately volunteered to do it instead. After all, the first rule to surviving a visit to Diasomnia was: Never eat or drink something Lilia made.Â
"Iâll handle the tea," you say quickly before Liliaâs hand can get anywhere near the kettle. Your voice is a bit brighter than usual, and you offer a smile to Lilia thatâs ninety percent nerves and ten percent sincere gratitude.
"Oh, are you sure? I was hoping to try a new blendâŠ" Lilia said.
"I insist," you reply, perhaps more quickly than you mean to. "Itâs the least I can do after all the chaos."
After returning to the lounge room with the tea and sweets, you all sit down. Maledor is quick to take a seat beside you, while Lilia has to urge Sebek to sit down as well instead of standing guard by the windows.Â
Steam rose from the cups you carefully poured. Maledor watched you, swinging his little feet under the chair, his misery momentarily forgotten in anticipation of sweets.
As you sit down as well, Maledor asked. "Can I take a cookie, Mother?"
The repeated use of the title 'mother' still caught you off guard every time, as did Maledor asking you if he was allowed to eat a cookie. You nodded eventually. "Yeah, sure."
Maledorâs face lit up as you granted him permission. He snatched a cookie with both hands and promptly stuffed half of it into his mouth, crumbs dotting his cheeks as he beamed triumphantly.
"Say, Maledor," Lilia began, tone filled with curiosity. "it must have been quite an adventure to find yourself here, hm? Do you remember anything? Anything at all about how you arrived at the cafeteria, or where you were before?"
Maledor looked down, chewing his cookie with squirrel-like intensity. Then, after a moment's hesitation, he swung his legs and frowned in concentration. "I⊠I was in the castle. Not this one⊠my home. Father was teaching me magic because I wanted to be big! Like him. And thenâŠThere was this bright green light, all swirly. It was so pretty, but it got really loud and windy. I called for you." he looked up at you. "But I couldnât find you or Father, and then I was here. It was scary. I didnât like it. I just wanted to go home."
You picked up a napkin when you saw that Maledor had finished eating. You cleaned his chocolate-covered fingers and mouth. To which Maledor reacted with a 'Thank you, mother,' after you were done.Â
Sebek, in the meantime, asked. "Who is your father? Can you say his name?"
Maledor brightened, as if relieved to be asked something simple. "My Father is Malleus! Malleus Draconia."
You barely had time to process Maledorâs answer before the tea caught in your throat, a cough sputtering out of you in disbelief. You blinked hard, as if somehow the world would flicker and correct itself. Instead, the bright-eyed boy just looked up at you, awaiting your response with absolute trust.
Liliaâs eyes sparkled with a private, knowing delight, a sly grin playing at the corners of his mouth as he watched the chaos unfold with all the satisfaction of someone who had seen the punchline coming a mile away.
Sebek, on the other hand, was completely stunned. The rigid guard posture dissolved into total shock. His mouth dropped open, then snapped shut in a series of fishlike gasps. He gripped his teacup so tightly it threatened to snap in half. He blinked, then searched Maledorâs face. His gaze darted between the delicate, unmistakable horns and those deep, green eyes. For a second, you wondered if Sebek was about to faint. "Malleus⊠Draconia?" he finally choked out. "Impossible! The Young Master has no offspring! There must be a mistake. Some⊠imposter trickery!"
"Wait, wait," you managed, gesturing rapidly between Maledor and Sebek. "Hold on, Maledor. You said your father is Malleus Draconia. You mean, the Malleus? Diasomniaâs Malleus? Tall, horns, kind of brooding, makes storms when heâs in a mood: Malleus?"
Maledor blinked up at you. His head cocked with innocent confusion, as if he couldnât comprehend why you were asking something so obvious. "Of course, Father is Malleus Draconia!" he said, the words sounding so simple, so certain, as if youâd just asked him whether he liked cookies. "You know that, Mother⊠Why are you pretending?"
You sat, frozen in your seat, Maledorâs certainty striking through you more powerfully than any ice he could have summoned. Your brain scrambled wildly for any logical explanation. Was this a trick? A dream? Did the world flip upside down when you werenât looking?
"IMPOSSIBLE!" Sebek barked, jumping up so quickly his chair almost fell. "You must be mistaken! The Young Master does not have, could not have, a child without telling his loyal knights!" He pointed a finger at you. "And you, Prefect! What have you done to this child?!"
"I swear, Iâm not lying!" you answered, finally finding your voice. "I didnât do anything to Maledor. He called me mother from the start. Before I even knew his name!"
Sebek, torn between devotion and confusion, snapped. "This cannot be! The Young Master would never keep such secrets. AndâŠ" His mind worked frantically. "The time makes no sense! My Liege and the Prefect⊠you⊠are not even married!"
You flushed, mortified and indignant. "Excuse you! Weâre not anything." You glanced at Maledor, lowering your voice. "Not like that. Just friends, really."
Lilia clapped his hands softly, his voice clear and sure in the commotion. "No need for dramatics. You know, Sebek, sometimes the wind brings secrets from times yet to come. Briar Valley holds many old mysteries, does it not?"
Sebek bristled, trying to regain composure. "Sir Lilia, with all respect, how can we trust-"
Lilia cut him off with a gentle but authoritative voice. "Sebek, look at the child." Lilia turned to Maledor. "You were frightened, werenât you? Do you remember any enchantments or trickery? Did anyone put strange ideas in your head?"
Maledor shook his head. "No. I just wanted Mother. And Father." He glanced sidewise at you, hope flickering in his green eyes. "Iâm not lying. I promise."
Lilia patted his shoulder. "Of course youâre not. Sometimes things happen that even us grown-ups do not immediately understand. Time, magic, fate. I think our little prince here is simply⊠lost between stories."
"But what does that mean, Lilia?" you asked for clarification, not being able to wrap your head around this situation. "Is Maledor truly Malleus... And myâŠ" You didn't finish your sentence with 'child'. It just sounded too weird.Â
"Sometimes, the river of time chooses curious eddies," Lilia mused with a gentle smile. "A leaf from tomorrow might find itself drifting among the branches of today. If itâs not a trick, not a spell, and not a childâs tale, perhaps we must accept that sometimes, the world permits a riddle to live before its answer."
You stared, mouth poised between laughter and a plea for sanity. "Are you saying⊠heâs from the future?" The words felt ridiculous as they left your lips.
Lilia shrugged lightly. "Magic has never cared much for clocks or calendars. Wouldnât be the first time something important arrived a little ahead of schedule."
While you were still trying to wrap your head around this, Sebek seemed to accept Lilias' words in a split second. "My LiegesâŠ" Sebekâs voice faltered, then swelled with fervor. "My Liege's heir! Of course! There can be no other explanation befitting Prince Malleusâs unparalleled greatness! Only Prince Malleus, scion of the glorious Draconia line, could sire such a prodigy! Such strength, such majesty, even at such a young age. Freezing the entire cafeteria! Behold, the testament of our great lordâs power!"
"You are the proof of Prince Malleusâs supremacy. Even time itself cannot contain his legacy!" he gushed. "A scion born of unmatched power and noble heritage! To think, I am in the presence of my Liege's heir -his magnificent progeny!"
"Forgive me, young prince!" He dropped to one knee before Maledor, completely ignoring you now, and offered a bow so deep it was a miracle he didnât hit his head on the floor. "Forgive me for doubting your identity for even a second. I, Sebek Zigvolt, am at your service, just like I am at your glorious father's service!"
Sebekâs 180-degree turn gave you mental whiplash. Two minutes ago, he was about to lock you up for kidnapping a child. And now he was praising Maledor as if he was the second coming of Jesus. And anyway, where was your praise? After all, if Maledor was yours and Malleus's child, you had also contributed half to this cute little boy.
No, on a second thought, you'd rather not be the subject of Sebekâs loud and lavish praise. You were still in denial about all of this. Honestly, you were just surprised by Sebekâs sudden turn. Like, wasnât he super concerned that Malleus and you werenât even married a second ago? As if Sebek thinks children could only be conceived if their parents really love each other and wish for one. He was so innocent.Â
"This must be announced at once! The other knights deserve to weep at this glory. Everyone in Diasomnia needs to know. No, the entire College must know. Briar Valley must be informed. And the Young Master!"
Sebekâs words left you even more mortified than the entire situation already did. You are vaguely wishing the frosted cafeteria had swallowed you whole. You couldnât face Malleus right now. What were you supposed to say? You rather die than face that embarrassment.Â
"No! We canât tell anyone! Especially not Malleus," you interrupted in a voice that could rival Sebeks, before clearing your throat and continuing in a normal voice. "What I mean is, how are we going to explain this? Like, no one is going to believe that a child just showed up from the future, right? They will think Malleus had a secret love child or something."
"I canât keep the Young Master in the dark about his own flesh and blood. It is my knightly duty to inform him about everything that is happening in his absence!"
Sebek, as always, did not listen, and Lilia was just enjoying the drama for now. In a burst of desperation, you grabbed a cupcake and threw it across the table at Sebek. He stood there, utterly stunned. A thick glob of icing clung to his cheek and crumbs slided down his jacket. He blinked, still processing your audacious cupcake attack. Meanwhile, Maledor, not understanding anything, laughed at that.
"Seems like you canât go to Malleus now. You wouldnât stand before your Liege covered in icing, right?" you said, trying to buy time.
"H-How dare you assault one of Prince Malleusâs loyal knights with pastries, human!" he barked.Â
The feeling that you brought the situation under control immediately vanished when the door opened. There, calmly and tall, stood the regal figure of Malleus, as if the universe liked seeing your misery. Those sharp green eyes found you immediately and lingered for a breath before shifting to Maledor.
"Father!" Maledorâs cry rang bright and clear. His little legs scrambed down from the chair. He rushed to Malleus with unerring speed, arms stretched wide open.
Malleus knelt smoothly. His regal composure melting enough to open his arms and receive the child -his child- into a gentle embrace. "So it was you I sensed. A presence so like my own, yet unlike any I have felt before."
Heat flooded your face as the initial shock passed. Your first instinct was to bolt from sheer embarrassment. Somehow, you managed to find your voice. "Youâre not surprised, Malleus?"
"Surprised?" he repeated "No, not at all. I recognized the resonance of my own magic the moment Maledor appeared." He regarded you calmly. "You seem greatly unsettled. Is it so shocking to you?"
"I mean, yeah! Everyone would be shocked," you replied honestly.
"You truly cannot feel it?" Malleus asekd. "Even now, the air shimmers with our blood intertwined. A melody only you and I could create."
You thought about his words for a moment. Putting it like that, you suppose you did feel something. Although definitely not as clear as Malleus did. "Still, shouldnât we be more concerned?"
"Concern is natural. But you underestimate the strength of the Draconia blood. And your own as well. Our child would never be so easily lost to time without reason. He will return," Malleus said, voice absolute. "The magic that called him here is already unraveling."
"So the problem will fix itself?" you question. That sounded like better circumstances than most problems you have run into in Twisted Wonderland. "Everything will go back to normal soon?"
Malleus nodded. "Yes. This visit, while precious, is unintended. The magic that summoned him here is unstable and will not last much longer. The world has its ways of correcting itself."
Some of the tension in your chest loosened at his certainty.
Lilia, barely restraining a wide grin, chimed in. "It seems time itself favors your union, hmm?"
Your face went hot again, just as your flustered heart was about to calm down a little. "Y-You canât just say something like that out of nowhereâŠ!" you stuttered. Your voice sounded more like a nervous squeak.Â
"But it's a wonderful thing, isn't it?" Lilia replied. Beneath his light tone, you could sense the sincerity in his eyes. Like a guardian who is relieved to see his forsterling in good hands.Â
Malleus regarded Lilia for a moment, then turned back to you, his emerald gaze gentle but searching. "Does it trouble you?" he asked. "If such a future would come to pass would it be so unwelcome?"
Despite your flustered state it didnât take long for you to shook your head. "No⊠It wouldn't be unwelcome."
Maledor, oblivious to the tension and simply happy to be near both his parents, studied your face. He shuffled over from Malleusâs embrace and returned to your side, hugging you tightly enough to drive the air from your lungs. "Your face is all red, Mother! When Sebek gets red he gets loud. When Mother gets red she gets quiet," he commented, which made you only more flustered. "I think ice cream makes everything better. Can we eat ice cream?"
You softly pinch Maledor's cheek. "I think someone already had enough sugar for a day with all the cookies and cupcakes."
Maledorâs smile faltered for half a second, his wide eyes shimmering with a betrayed kind of innocence that only a child could muster. Then, with all the cunning of someone whoâd clearly inherited far too much of Malleusâs intelligence and dramatic tendencies, he turned slowly toward his father.
Malleus tilted his head. His expression was calm and unreadable. Maledorâs lip trembled just enough to be convincing. "Father..." he began, voice so heart-wrenchingly sweet it couldâve earned him ten free sundaes anywhere in Twisted Wonderland. "Mother said no to ice cream."
The underlying message was clear: Mother rejected me. Only you can right this cruel injustice, Father.
"A most tragic betrayal," Malleus said solemnly. "To be denied joy by oneâs own mother. This is indeed a grievous matter."
"Are you siding with him?" you asked, eyes darting from dragon fae to dragon fae. "Heâs a little sugar gremlin who just weaponized his cuteness!"
"I am merely acknowledging his diplomatic tact," Malleus replied with a perfectly neutral expression, though the slight twitch of his lips betrayed his amusement. He patted Maledorâs hair, then gently guided him back to your side. "A future prince must know how to plead his case with grace and strategic flair."
"Donât encourage him," you grumbled, though your lips tugged up in spite of yourself. This entire situation defied logic and physics, maybe even sanity, but somehow... it wasn't as terrifying as it first seemed, not with the way Malleus stood beside you like an unwavering anchor in a storm, and how Maledor leaned against you like he had always belonged there.
"He encourages me," Maledor beamed up at his father.
"I do," Malleus agreed without hesitation.
"I manipulate Mother."
"You do," Malleus affirmed with serene approval.
"You are literally both saying the scheme out loud while Iâm right here!" you pointed out. "Youâre not supposed to straight-up say itâs manipulation!"
"Donât worry, Father. Mother always forgives you when you hug her from behind. You do that a lot in the future," Maledor said to comfort Malleus after seeing your grumpy reaction.
Your soul nearly left your body.
Malleus blinked. Then turned to look at you intensely.
You snapped your head toward the child in horror. "Maledor!"
"What?" he asked, blinking up at you with wide, guileless eyes. "Itâs true. When you get all âgrumpy-grumblyâ and tell Father to leave you alone, Father just hugs you from behind, really slow and gentle, and you get all red and mutter something like, 'You know I canât stay mad at you.'"
"Slow and gentle, you say," Malleus repeated. His expression was thoughtful, as if he was memorizing every word Maledor said. "Hmm. So gentle physical affection dissolves your irritation. I will need to remember that approach."
"That is not the takeaway here!" you interrupted.
"I am merely collecting useful knowledge of what pleases my future consort," Malleus responded smoothly. With almost academic intrigue. "Maledorâs insights are quite enlightening."
Sebekâs complexion was caught somewhere between ghostly pale and tomato red. "Y-Young Prince! This is hardly appropriate information to share in a public setting!"
Maledor blinked at Sebek, completely unbothered. "But Sebek, you said itâs a knightâs duty to speak the truth and uphold honor. Iâm just being helpful."
"Yes, but there are degrees of helpfulness...! Some truths are best kept private, especially when discussing the... the subtle... the-" Sebek finally broke eye contact and wheezed, "hugging techniques."
"I agree! We should just stop talking about this," you agreed, hoping the embarrassment would be over now, but then something came to your mind. "No, wait. It is only fair if you also share embarrassing things about Malle- Eh, your Father, Maledor."
Sebek, still recovering from the previous exchange, audibly gasped. "Y-young prince! The Young Master is above embarrassment!"
"No, heâs not," you said flatly.
"Well, Mother says itâs fair," Maledor chirped. "So. When youâre not around, Father gets really weird."
"Weird?" Malleus repeated. His tone remained level, but one graceful brow arched inquisitively.
"Mhmm. Sometimes he just stands in the hallway. Just... standing. Staring out a window. All dramatic and sad," Maledor said before adding brightly. "Oh, and when you come back, even if itâs just from the bathroom, he teleports to your side and says 'Ah, as I suspected, the world only feels whole in your presence again.'"
Malleus remained unshaken, which somehow made it worse. "There is no shame in expressing adoration," he said. "Is it so strange, to long for the presence of the one who stirs your soul?"
Somehow, your idea backfired on you. Not only was Malleus not the least bothered by Maledor's revelations, you are even more flustered now. You didnât even know what to say, but thankfully Maledor filled the silence again.Â
"And one time. Mother kissed Fatherâs cheek right before a council meeting, and he smiled the whole time. The old scary ministers freaked out and thought Father was about to declare war because he never smiles like that during council."
"Alright, that's enough glimpses into the future!" you interrupted hastily, cutting off any further soul-exposing anecdotes. "Didnât you say you wanted ice cream, Maledor?"
"Yes, ice cream!" Maledor shouted excitedly.Â
"If it pleases the young prince, I shall fetch the finest ice cream the college kitchens offer," Sebek declared utterly serious, though his face was still visibly red from the "inappropriate" things Maledor revealed.Â
Lilia, who looked like he was thriving in this chaos, leaned back in his chair, arms crossed behind his head. "This might be the most entertaining thing Iâve seen in a hundred years. And I fought a manticore while wearing a tutu once."
"...Why?" you couldnât help asking.
"There was a wager. Long story." He winked.
You just accepted what Lilia said without further questions. In a room together with your future child, that just appeared out of thin air, Lilia might still be the biggest enigma.Â
You all find your seats at the table again. It didnât take long for Sebek to arrive with the ice cream. Maledorâs eyes sparkled as he eyed the huge bowl full of brightly-colored ice cream that you placed in front of him. Despite his eagerness, he still waited quietly until you gave him permission to begin eating. Seated beside him, Malleus also seemed to enjoy his bowl of ice cream with quiet contentment. You had the suspicion that he also wanted one from the beginning.Â
As you also began eating your ice cream, you began to really process what was happening. Does this encounter mean that your future was now predestined? Does this mean you will stay in Twisted Wonderland and never find a way back home to your world? Will you become the consort of one of the most powerful mages in the whole world, reigning beside him? They were all worthy, existential questions, but one in particular rose above the rest in your mind.Â
"Wait. Isnât it a thing that dragon faes hatch from eggs? So⊠does that mean I'm going to lay an egg someday? Or is this a seahorse type of situation, and Malleus will lay the egg?"
The room was silent for a moment, but before anyone could answer that very crucial question, Sebek raised his voice. "Seahorse? How dare you compare the Great Malleus Draconia with an unremarkable creature such as a seahorse?!"
While a new round of chaos broke out on the table, Silver probably just woke up wondering why Sebek never came to wake him up for his guard duty. And the frozen students are till waiting for help.
âćœĄ in which malleus and leona fight for your affections
leona kingscholar x gn!reader & malleus draconia x gn!reader
word counter: 4K
warnings: reader is prefect, cursing, love triangle, possible ooc
a/n: based off of the song âstepsisterâs lamentâ from cinderella the musicalâ hence the title. one of my favorite works!! I had fun writing this!! both mal and leona are capital p PETTY and I'm living for it. i hope you enjoy :>
No matter how much he claims he doesn't care, Leona finds himself hissing at the sight of you and Malleus together. He wants to deny it so badlyâ but deep down he knows.Â
He knows as he glares at you, sitting on a bench beside the fae, giggling and having a jolly old time. Heâs well aware of what heâs feeling as he scoffs, telling the greedy hyena beside him that heâs returning to the dorm.
And heâs fully conscious as he lays in bed, staring at the ceiling; unable to get the image of you and that spiny horned reptile out of his head.Â
Heâs jealous. Envious. And any damn variation of the sort.
Out of all the people you could choose to spend your time with, you pick that slimy lizard?!Â
Your taste is questionableâwhoâs he kidding? Absolutely awful. Really, going for the guy who doesnât age? Ever think about how awkward itâs going to be when youâre getting hip pains and he still looks like a teenager? Hell, heâs not one for settling down but wouldnât you at least want someone with the capacity of growing old together?!
What does that scaley little scumbag do for you anyway?
Sure, Malleus does gift you little trinkets youâve mentioned in passing. Leona isnât blind; he can see the way you light up at these gifts. He distinctly remembers seeing a dorky gargoyle keychain on your bag. It stank of that fae freak.Â
Yet you seemed to adore the tiny statue, so much so that you went on a small rant about the history. To Leonaâs surprise, he listened to every single word you had to say about it. Gargoyles are always way more interesting when itâs you talking about it.Â
Though, everything involving you is more interesting nowadays⊠He had to resist the urge to sand that stupid little toy right then and there.
And heâs well aware of the âsecretâ walks the two of you have at unholy times of the night, talking about whatever that overgrown lizard is interested in. The way you speak of it like nobody knows is irritating. Only an idiot wouldnât pick up on it.Â
Too bad NRC is full of idiots.
Itâs not like it matters too much anyway. He doubts Malleus has the charisma to charm you. The guy isnât invited to a whole lot of events for a reason. While Leona knows he can come off as a prick, heâs still a prince nonetheless. He was taught how to flatter and flirtâ he remembers being surrounded by a bunch of bootlickers as a cub.Â
He isnât intimidated by Malleusâs magic all too much either. Although heâs more than sure you wouldnât fall for a person solely based on their strength, Leona believes he could take on Malleus. The lizard is painfully predictable after all.Â
Not to mention most of his âshows of powerâ are akin to temper tantrums. If dueling wasnât banned, that pathetic excuse of a dragon would be dragged in the mud by him.
Everything Malleus does for you, he could do better. Heâs sure of it.Â
Beneath the surface, is he scared of coming second place to yet another person? Terrified that heâll always be the second-best choice? That all the time spent with you would never be more than that? Maybe.Â
But those night terrors are lessened when he sees you approachâ knowing he was the sole reason you were there.Â
Leona feels his heart race as you sit beside him, casually talking about your day and whatever hijinks you got into. He worries you might hear just how fast it beats for you when you nap with him, laying your head on his chest.Â
As he hears you mumble his name in your sleep, he feels reassured that heâs your one.Â
I meanâ why would someone as great as you ever want a flimsy, little lizard? Especially when heâs right here, ready to be your pillow in hard and happy times.Â
~
A green thunderbolt struck through the sky. Coincidentally, you happened to be napping on Leona outside when this happenedâ shaking the both of you awake.
Did Malleus do this on purpose?⊠Of course not. Heâs not immature enough to do that, unlike a certain lion he knows.
Itâs not his fault that you two were cuddling outside when he was âtestingâ out something with his thunder.
That doesnât mean he was any less satisfied watching you get up and walk back to your dorm, leaving that mangy cat by himself.
He never understood what value you gained from hanging around someone asâŠunusual as Kingscholar. A âprinceâ who lays around, sleeping the day away? What a joke! Wouldnât you rather have a princeâ better yet a rulerâ whoâs proactive in his kingdom?
That flappy street cat is better suited to accompany Grim rather than yourself.Â
He doubts Kingscholar would hold open the door for you like he does!Â
Malleus has heard itâs a human custom to do so; ever since then, heâs now perfected the art of swiftly rushing over to a door and slamming it open for you. It delights him when you giggle at his antics. He bets that idiotic lion would never be able to do thatâ Kingscholar barely moves anyway. Itâs like heâs glued to that bed of his.
Kingscholar seems as though heâd let the door slam in your face. That alone just shows how superior Malleus is to him.Â
Although, Kingscholarâs words of advice indeed seemed to matter to you quite a lot. Every time you had attracted chaos, you commonly turned to the lazy loaf and asked for his perspective. And each time, without fail, Mal had watched you take the princeâs suggestion in stride and use it.
It pains him to admit it, sometimes Kingscholar can be rather clever. Malleus is somewhat glad that said lion uses his intelligence to keep you safe.
He doesnât know what, but something about Kingscholarâs mere existence seems to relax you. Malleus has seen you look at ease in a way heâs never witnessed before when you simply just lay beside the other student. He watches with envy as Kingscholarâs tail protectively wraps around your thigh.Â
As long as youâre safe⊠Malleus supposes he can bear through you hanging out with the lion.
That wonât stop him from interrupting the two of you whenever he feels the time is right. Sudden bolts of thunder, random objects falling from the sky and hitting Kingscholar on the head, out-of-the-blue power outagesâŠ
Itâs all fair play to him. You still get to hang out with that lazy excuse of a prince anyway.
It doesnât matter too much to himâ at least thatâs what he tells himself. Itâs not as though youâd leave him to hang out with Kingscholar; no, youâd never.Â
Youâll stay, wonât you?
Heâs sure of it as you walk beside him in the dead of night. Nobody else knows, nor do they need to as you two stroll along the campus. Seeing your enthusiastic smile next to him as you talk about your dreams fills him with unexplainable joy. Malleus fights the urge to hold your hand, interlocking your fingers with his.
You seemed to have read his mindâ you always do understand him like no otherâ as you glanced down at your hands. A small giggle leaves your lips before you inch your hand closer to his.
âCan weâŠ?â You hum with hopeful and amused eyes.
Wordlessly, Malleus indulges now with your consent. The warmth of your hand compared to the polarizing coldness of his made him feel dizzy. In a good way.Â
Youâll never leave him. At least not when you're hand in hand together like this.
~
âMan Iâm starvingâ Hurry it up, henchman!â A familiar, squeaky voice demanded as Grim pushed on your shoulder.Â
âPatience, patience. This is very important. It can determine my mood for the rest of the day.â You murmured, standing strong despite Grimâs efforts. Narrowing your eyes, you stared at the different lunch options.Â
What were you going to eat today?
âPrefect has a point. Your nutrition affects the way you function.â Jack shrugs behind Grim, rubbing the back of his neck.Â
âYou say that like theyâre going to eat something healthy.â Ace yawns, stretching out his arm and lightly hitting Deuce. âHurry it up, Prefect! Clockâs ticking!â
âFine! Fine!â Quickly, you grabbed the same thing youâve gotten for the past week. A series of groans emerged from behind you.
âAll that time just to get that?â Ace crossed his arms, giving you an unamused look.Â
âOkay, Iâll get something else thenââ
ââNononononono!â Practically everyone behind you yelled in a panic.
âJust go sit down ân secure us a table already!â Epel huffs, to which you happily comply.
You scout out the area, looking for a free table to sit at. Geez, was the cafeteria always this packed?
A sigh of relief escapes your lips as you spot a familiar, robotic Shroud waving to you from a table.
âPrefect!â Ortho chirps, his voice synthesizer going a pitch up. Just as you were about to walk over, you felt your blazer being pulled on from the back. Suddenly, you were yanked away.
âAy! Watch itâ!â You grab the hand that was pulling on you, turning around to come face to face with a smug Ruggie.
âLeonaâs callinâ you.â
You rolled your eyes.
âHe didnât want to send a text or call? He just had to send a goon to come and get me?âÂ
Ruggie nodded with a cheeky grin.
âYep.â
Groaning, you turn towards Ortho and wave him goodbye, signaling that you are going to leave. âLead the way, hyena.â
And with that, you found yourself walking through the hallways on your way to Savanaclaw. You hope Ortho told the others about you leaving. It kinda slipped your mind to tell them.
You snapped out of your thoughts as you heard munching coming from Ruggieâ âWait, that's my lunch youâre eating! Howâd you evenâŠ!? When did youâŠ?!â
It also slipped your mind that Ruggie is both a great thief and greedy when it comes to food.
âShishishishi⊠you left yourself open, Prefect! Iâm sure Leona will get you something else to eat. He always does.â
âAlways is a stretch.â You grumble, watching Ruggie eat your food. âIs it?â You didnât want to ponder his question.Â
Instead, you turn your gaze ahead of you and focus on walking⊠At least thatâs what you would be doing if you didnât walk face-first into somebody.Â
âGah! Iâm so sorryââ âChild of man.âÂ
Only one person used that nickname for you. Looking up, you were met with Malleusâs amused smile.Â
âImpeccable timing,â The fae seemed happy to see you. You could see his fangs the way he was smiling. Ruggie was unsettled but thankful that Malleus was ignoring his presence. âWould you accompany me for lunch? Lilia, Sebek, and Silver will be there too, of course.âÂ
You were about to accept right away before you felt a light hit to your side. Ruggie sneakily elbowed you. Before you could curse at him, he gave you a look andâ Oh, right. You were going with him to spend lunch with Leona already. A small frown made its way on your lips as you turned back to Malleus.
Great sevens, it was hard to turn him down. Especially when he was all cheery like this.Â
Fortunatelyâ or unfortunately, you didnât have to. A roaring voice from behind you did it for you.
âHerbivoreâs coming with me. They agreed to it already.â Leona huffed, a scowl clear on his face as he approached. Ruggie seemed surprised.
âLeona?! Whatâre youââ âDid they now? I didnât exactly hear them say no to my proposal though.â Malleus interrupted Ruggie, whose ears went flat against his head.Â
âThey donât need to. Theyâve already got plans.â The lion growled, narrowing his eyes at the other third year.Â
Malleus stepped forward, the faeâs irritation growing. âWhy do you insist on speaking for them so vigorously? My dear child of man, donât let him dictate your choicesââ
âIâm not doing shit. Just stating what they already agreed to.â Leona also stepped forward, refusing to back down.Â
You were starting to get worried and turned your head to murmur something to Ruggie. Except Ruggie wasnât there. The hyena snuck off already. Bastard. A voice snapped you out of your thoughts.
âWell, Prefect? Who would you rather accompany? Kingscholarâ whoâll likely laze around the whole lunchâ or I?â
âDamn lizardâŠâ Leona grumbled under his breath before shaking his head and facing you. âWell? The choice is yours. I wouldnât force you to do anything.â
You bit the inside of your cheek, your gaze flickering between the two. âWell⊠Iââ
Before you could finish, you were interrupted by a loud ring.
The lunch bell had rung. It was time to head back to class.
~
âAre you doing okay?â You ask, shifting closer to Leona. He lets out a small grunt in response, his eyes closed as he sprawled out in his usual spot inside the Botanical Garden.Â
For as tough as Leona was, he was unusually soft when tired. He carried this relaxing air around him. That no matter what happens, youâll be okay with him around. The thought makes you smile as you tilt your head at him.
He was also kinda cute when he laid there like thatâ
âQuit staring.â
Leona abruptly huffed out. Blinking in surprise, you soon realize that one of his eyes was cracked open. A tiny blush finds its way on your cheeks while he stutters out an apology. The lionâs lips soon form a smug grin.
âYou were looking at me pretty attentively, herbivoreâŠâ His words are slow and agonizing. Leonaâs tail swishes up and down as he leans in closer. Your eyes widen as he comes mere inches away from your face; from your lips.
ââŠGot something you want to tell me?â You feel your breath hitched at the sudden, feather-light touch of Leonaâs hand against yours. Just as you were about to respondâ
âRoi du Lions!âÂ
The romantic atmosphere Leona so carefully built went down the drain, along with his motivation. A groan left his lips.
âSorry, we didnât mean to interrupt.â Trey soon appears behind Rook, an apologetic expression on his face. You shake your head, standing up.Â
âYouâre good! Whatâre you two up to?âÂ
Leona had an annoyed look on his face as you engaged with the other students. He tried to ignore and drown out everyoneâs voices. At least he was, till Rook caught his attention.
âDuring an exploration for new ingredients that we could bring to our club, Roi de Dragons made a magical appearance.â You raised a brow while Leonaâs ear flicked.
Trey let out a small chuckle at Rookâs dramatic storytelling.
âMalleus just asked us to find something for him in the Botanical Garden.âÂ
Leonaâs scowl deepened. That damn lizard.
âMaybe we could help! Whatâre you looking for?â You offered.
Trey soon fiddled with his pocket, searching for something. Shortly after, he pulls out a piece of paper. âA⊠toy? It looks like this. Malleus said he last had it here.â
You made an âOâ shape with your mouth. âHis virtual pet! Gao-Gao!â Trey lets you hold the paper, letting you get a closer look at the drawing that resembled Malleusâs Tamogachi.Â
âI know what it looks like, Iâve got no idea where he couldâve left it thoughâŠâ Soon enough, you, Trey, and Rook are scouring the Botanical Gardens for this little toy. Leona finds this stupid.Â
Slightly bitter about his ruined moment, he lays back down to take a nap.
Thatâs when his ear flinched after hitting something hard. Turning around with a displeased look, Leonaâs eyes narrowed.
There, in his favorite sleeping spot was Malleusâs dumb toy âwhich wasnât there literally minutes ago might he add. Picking it up, Leona contemplated crushing the small electronic. However, as he held it, the lion was quick to notice a bit of ink getting on his fingers.Â
He turned the Tamogachi around. Written on the back with a blue pen was âKingscholar :)â
Oh, that fucking Draconia did this on purpose.
~
Sitting up from your bed, you rub your eyes. With an annoyed groan, you get up and go to the doorâ trying not to wake Grim in the process. You could feel the ghost watching with curiosity. Not that you blamed them. Hell, you were curious too!
Who was knocking at 2 in the morning!?
The sun wasnât even up. Ramshackle probably looked horrid, inside and outside, at this time.
You werenât looking too great either: bags beneath your eyes, saggy pajamas, slouched posture⊠Vil would die on the spot if he saw you. Internally, you prayed it was anybody but him. And thank the Sevens that your prayer was answered.
You titled your head in confusion at the one in front of you.
âMalleus?â He smiled back at you. As though his appearance on your doorstep at the crack ass of dawn was the most normal thing ever.
âGreetings.â
You shook your head, still waking up and trying to make sense of the situation. âDo⊠Do you need something?â
Now he looked confused. Which only heightened your confusion. The fae furrowed his brows. âDid you not want to talk, child of man?âÂ
âI like talking with you! Just, preferably not this early in the morningâ Look, why are you here? Did you just want to hang out, Tsunotarou?â You tried being as polite as possible, but damn you were tired.Â
Malleus looked just as lost as you.
ââŠPerhaps youâve forgotten about the letter you sent me?â You look to the side, slightly scrunching your nose as you try to remember what âletterâ he was referring to.Â
âUhhâ When did I send this letter?â You give him an apologetic smile. It wasnât too far-fetched; the idea of you giving him an invitation to Ramshackle.Â
However, you feel as though you wouldâve remembered if you had actually done it. And you wouldâve hoped that past you would be smart enough to set your invitation time to anytime BUT 2 AM.Â
âI recall receiving this letter yesterday, in the library,â Malleus explained, his hand reaching into his pocket to find said paper. âYou slipped it to me when you walked byââ
The fae grabbed his invitation, only for him to be met with sand that trickled down his hand.
ââwith KingscholarâŠâ He fell silent as he stared at the tiny particles in his hand. You seemed to catch on quickly, giving him a sympathetic look as your eyes flickered between the sand and him.
âTsunotarou, did you see me give you this letter?âÂ
The way he averted his eyes to the side, his pale cheeks faintly turning pink from embarrassment, already gave you the answer you needed. Itâd be cute if not for the circumstances. As expected, Malleus shook his head.
âMy apologies⊠I assumed it was you since I had acquired it right after you had waved at me and it was an invitation to Ramshackle.â
You let out a small chuckle before brushing off the sand that still dirtied his hand. âDonât sweat it. Itâs not your fault that Leona is⊠well Leona and he does stuff like this.â Offering Malleus a smile, your hand soon intertwined with his. The blush on his cheeks subtly brightened.
âWell, you did come all this way just to hang out. Itâd be a shame to turn you away now. Here, come.â You kick the door to open it wider and pull the fae inside Ramshackle. Leading him to the couch, you could gauge that Malleus was amused by your antics. Practically dragging one of the top mages in the world by the arm into your dormâŠ
âLet me just freshen up first! Wait hereâ Iâll be right back. Then we could watch some movies or whatever.â You shrugged with a grin before running upstairs to wash up. Malleus gave you a polite and happy wave as you exited.
Once you left, he let out a sigh and leaned back on the couch. His hands balled into fists as he felt more sand pooling in his pockets. A green bolt of lightning struck from the sky.
That measly fucking lion.
~
You let out an aggravated sigh. Did they not think you realized what both of them were doing to each other? Between the Tamagotchi incident and the whole letter debacle a few nights ago, they were being so obvious.
Jeez, you get that they had a rivalry going on and whatnot, but why did they have to involve you? Fed up and rambling, you look to your side at Grim to get his thoughts on the matter. He sat next to you in the kitchen, munching away on a can of tuna.
âTheyâre getting really annoying! Stealing my henchmenâs time like thatâŠâ A chuckle left your lips at Grimâs bitterness, causing you to pet him on the head.Â
âMhm. I just want them to quit itâ at least around me. Iâm good friends with both and care a lot about them⊠Also, donât talk with a mouthful.â You lightheartedly huff, getting up from your seat to grab Grim another can of tuna as he was beginning to finish his first. He usually ate two to three cans before bedtime.
âWhy donât ya just tell 'em?â The cat curiously asked with a tilt of the head, staring at you. You let out a snort. âYeah, just tell two extremely powerful mages with an intense hatred for one another to stop. Like thatâll work.â
Grim let out an annoyed groan at your sarcasm. You opened a new can of tuna and slid it to him. His frown quickly disappeared as he began to dig in.
âEhâ sounds like Leona and Malleus could use some quality time together.â Grim offhandedly comments, chewing away on his food.Â
âWhat did I say about talking with a mouthful, man?â You roll your eyes before falling silent, pondering his words. Quality time⊠Leona⊠MalleusâŠ
âGrim! Youâre a genius!â
~
âHerbivore, what the hell.â Leonaâs tone was unamused, giving you a deadpan look.
âI thought itâd be nice if we hung out all together! As a group?âÂ
The two men stared daggers at each other across the small, dusty table in Ramshackle. With a nervous chuckle, your eyes flickered between the two as you slowly passed out cards for some random board game that Idia lent you.
Leona and Malleus didnât take their eyes off one another. It was at this moment you were starting to think that Grim, in fact, was not a genius.
These two were definitely going to kill each other.
SoâŠiâm kinda in love with anxiety sans by @hheisa especialy with the christmas party au version,so i decided to make a comic of him with one of my favourite ocâs (bc i thouhgt they would get along)
