Hello, everyone! I know, I know. I haven't been active.
But I have good news! Since MidCin and 100DP have reached their kickstarter goal for the Dreamoire website, I have regained motivation! I will be translating the main routes and Ever After sequels in MidCin, events, and all that remains of 100DP that I have not been able to finish as they are uploaded! I am going to start by going back on my old Byron main translations (with my better knowledge of Japanese), and then use the website for the stuff I had missed the first time around.
â°ââ¤Â Professor Stein hates grading homework. You help take the load off his shoulders.

a/n: I'm only about halfway into Soul Eater, but Stein has my heart. I needed to get this out of my system.
Title inspired by Mindless Self Indulgence's song of the same name.
One glance is all it takes for you to realize somethingâs wrong with Stein.
Youâve seen your partner engrossed in work enough times to catch the distinct change of demeanor. For starters, this time you donât even have to announce your presence as you approach him slouching over his desk, whereas normally youâd be overcautious about interrupting him. Whatâs more, heâs the first to greet you, with a lazy half-spin in his chair and a hand in the air, a listless expression on his face.
âHello, Professor! What are you doing?â
Curious as you are, you still decide to stick to your little afternoon ritual first and prepare two nice hot cups of coffee to enjoy together while he works. Heâs fast to sate your curiosity, but not without a tired sigh leaving his lips.
âSomebodyâs not content with my teaching methods⌠Now I have to grade homework.
Itâs your turn to sigh, finding it hard to sympathize with Stein when you know of his endless dissection lectures. He definitely has a moreâŚhands-on approach to learning. It was about time he taught those poor kids something else, but you can see now why heâs been so unmotivated to grade the papers. The least you can do is keep him company.
While busy with the coffee machine, you can see how restless Stein is from the corner of your eye. He steers his office chair for a few laps around the lap, coming by to give your ass a smack at one point, before parking it in front of the desk again, and, even standing up to stretch his long limbs. Which he definitely isnât doing enough of, on the daily, but youâre too perplexed to praise him for that right now.
âI canât stand still.â
I can tell, you think to yourself, even if it only comes out as a soft hum instead.
âŚOr maybe, you can help him with that.
âRoom for one more?â You swing your hips coquettishly as you place the two cups on his desk, somehow finding a spot without scattered papers.
âMhm. Come here.â
Stein opens his arms to welcome you onto his lap, and youâd be quick to claim your seat, but thereâs still something you have to do beforehand.
You reach down to his trousers and put a palm over his crotch, gently beginning to rub around the area until you can feel the outline of his cock.
âAnd just what do you think youâre doing?â
Steinâs voice has a probing edge to it, but he lets it happen.
Catching his ivy gaze is a threat to your composure, but you keep executing your plan with confidence, soon feeling his cock come to life little by little. âGetting you hard, obviously!â
âObviously,â Stein parrots, like itâs the most obvious thing in the world, yet he, again, lets it happen.
Deciding thatâs been enough testing the waters, you move on to undoing his belt and freeing his half-hard cock from its confines. Giving it a few strokes with nothing on the way does the job a lot quicker, though you wouldnât have minded putting your mouth to work if needed.
Stein doesnât pay you too much attention as you position yourself over him, your skirt making everything much easier as you simply push your panties to the side and begin sinking down on his girthy length.
Even though you know youâre ready, the intrusion still leaves you breathless as you bottom out on Steinâs cock. Just a slight tingle of pain, the kind that promises a plethora of pleasure in its wake, making things that much more exciting.
The poor chairâs been through a lot, but even as it creaks a little under your combined weight, you feel as comfortable as a cat in a cardboard box.
âThere, now you have nowhere to go!â you say triumphantly, proud of your idea as Stein takes a sip of the steaming black liquid. Seated sideways in his lap, you make sure not to be in the way to your best extent, and he proves you right by picking up the red pen once again and effortlessly at that. He even places his other hand around your waist.
âMuch better,â he agrees.
His chin is rested upon your shoulder and you can feel his larynx producing those two words in the form of a soft vibration against your skin. It makes you want to kiss him, but youâre not here to distract him further than he already is, are you?
For a while, the only sound in the lab is the scribbling of the pen across the paper and the occasional sip of coffee coming from both of you. Itâs strangely tranquil, and youâre glad it seems to be doing the trickâŚ
Until it isnât.
âNghâŚâ you moan at the way Stein bounces you in his lap just once, experimentally, continuing off as if itâs nothing. You know better than to give him the reaction he wants, and you try your best to return to your scattered thoughts again. Next, his hand snakes upwards to squeeze a breast. You smack it away.
Cockwarming him normally is much easier. Itâs a great way for the two of you to unwind and spend some time together while not getting in the way of his work. Though, the position is to be blamed here as well, you suspect, as you notice it feels significantly tighter inside you when youâre sitting sideways. Your legs are now pressed together as opposed to being parted over Steinâs own legs when youâre facing him or when you have your back to his chest. It makes things feel more intense. Stein catches that as well.
Playing with the stray ends of your hair, you wonder how much longer it would take him to finish with those papers. Youâre not even realizing it, but youâre subconsciously grinding down on him. The pleasure suddenly creeps on you and builds up, and you stop. Youâre unfairly teasing him when heâs trying so hard to focusâŚ
âLight my cigarette.â
Not even noticing when heâd popped a cigarette in his mouth, you turn your head sideways and search with your eyes for the lighter lost among the mess on his desk. Youâre a bit lightheaded already, evident by the way you fumble with it as you bring it to his mouth. The soft click is followed by the sound of him sucking on a breather, taking a long drag of it. It makes things to you which you dont want to adress, and you turn away as soon as you put the lighter back in its rather random spot. You swear you spotted from your peripheral vision a little heart-shaped cloud of smoke rise up in the air and quickly dissolve.
Stein pats your hip, giving it a good squeeze. His palms are so warm and tantalizing as they feel you up, you canât help the automatic bodily reaction of clenching your pelvic muscles. You feel the heat move up your stomach and fill up your chest momentarily.
All of a sudden, the familiar feeling shapes into something entirely else, like an electric current zapping you throughout the length of your body. But itâs different from Stein using his soulâs wavelength on you.
You to use the bathroom.
âProfessor, I think Iâm going to take a toilet break, hahaâŚâ
âIâm almost done.â
Stein shuts you down almost immediately, and the mere thought of being deprived of that relief exaggerates the situation for your brain. Not good.
It doesnât help that the whole thing makes you twice as horny, by some great design. Steinâs hand goes wandering over your body once more. While youâre busy cursing the diuretic effects of the coffee, Stein drums his leg against the floor. It seems like heâs just stimming, but you swear heâs finding subtle ways to rile you up. Your walls clamp down around his cock again. The sound of his pen circling a mistake fills your head.
A small eternity goes by until you finally hear the words.
âOkay, Iâm done.â
The pen rolls away upon being dropped from his hold. The tips of his fingers arrive at the crux of your thighs, and it almost makes you jump. For a second there, you forgot what exactly it was that you were counting down towards.
You had no idea how overly sensitive the area had become while you were focused on the feeling of his fat cock lodged into your depths. Stein uses that to his full advantage.
âH-HakaseâŚâ your pleas fall on deaf ears as he mercilessly rubs your clit. The sense of something rapidly building up inside you scares you, not sure if youâre going to cum or piss yourself first.
âDonât worry about it. Just give in.â
Youâre not convinced he understands the gravity of the situation. âBut- But Iâm going toâŚ!â
âYou wonât,â his tone is matter-of-factly, and you have no reason to doubt his knowledge of the human body. Though you suspect he might be saying it more because he doesnât care about the outcome either way. Gross is not a word found in Dr. Franken Steinâs dictionary, last time you checked.
It would be a lie to say you coherently decide to trust him. Your body takes that decision for you before you can react, and youâre skyrocketed to the heights of ecstasy. The way you writhe in pleasure on his lap is almost embarrassing as he struggles to keep his fingers on your clit, the veins on his hand protruding.
You come down from your high as fast as you climbed up - the quick orgasm being enhanced by the pressure on your bladder, but desperation taking the spotlight as soon as itâs over.
Stein takes charge the very same moment, before the lust clouding your mind can lose its hold on you and ruin the beautiful moment. He grabs you by the legs, not knowing his own strength, and rotates you in his lap until you're with your back to him. In the next second, you find yourself bent over his desk, your upper half meeting the pile of papers as he begins fucking you in earnest.
He only lasts a few thrusts, all of which are filled by your near-screams and his grunting, and it feels damn good to get some movement after being still for so long. Stein groans and slams his hips in your tight pussy one last time before filling you up with his sperm.
On his exit, he wipes his cock in the inside of your thigh for good measure, your panties already sticky and ruined by your combined juices.
Thump. Stein takes you in his arms backwards with him to slam into the chair together while you catch your breath. He knows youâre in a hurry, butâŚ
âProfessor, that was⌠really goodâŚâ
âMhm.â
The click of his lighter comes again.
âThough, my stomach is beginning to ache a little bitâŚâ you confess.
You might be imagining it, but Stein stills completely for a moment, a dangerous aura coming from him. You keep forgetting that heâs a sadist at heart.
His large palm comes just over your bladder, but heâs good to you, and refrains from teasing you further. His tone is warm when he speaks up.
âJust think about how good it would feel when you finally release it.â
You giggle at his words, putting effort into getting onto your feet, wobbly as they are, like a newborn doe deer. He doesnât stop you this time.
When you look down at the desk, the thing he last worked on comes into focus. You can see itâs a scrap piece of paper with a doodle of what appears to be Shinigami-sama on it.

Summary: It's your first day at EonCore Tech. Can you survive?
Part 1: here
Series masterlist: here
âAlright, Miss, I think thatâs all the questions I have for you today.â
The man interviewing you, one of the chairmen at EonCore Techâ also known as the wolf-man you saw last night stands up and reaches out to shake your hand. Valko was his name, etched delicately into the steel nameplate sitting on the edge of the large cherry-wood desk.
âWeâll be in contact with you if we decide to pursue you as a candidate.â
You give him a tight smile. That wasnât what you wanted to hear. Usually that means âplease leave, youâre out of the running,â but you still shake his hand and thank him for his time.
As you approach the door, you pause, hand hovering over the brass doorknob.
Emotions run through your body. It almost feels supernatural. You feel angry. Confused. Did he not recognize you?
âCan I say something?â Your voice quivers a bit as you turn around. Normally, youâre not this confrontational a person, but your anger flares up quickly.
Valko had already busied himself by reading over some paperwork strewn on his desk. His eyes flit to yours, peering over his glasses. He clears his throat and sets the files down.
He leans back in his chair, waving his hand at you, waiting for you to speak. âOf course.â
You take a deep breath, your anger bubbling up. No way youâre just going to walk out of here without answers.
âW-was that not you last night? In the alley.â
Valko has the nerve to look puzzled, âWhatever do you mean? I was home last night. Did you not get that alert about a creature in the city?â
You hate how calm his voice is. Looking into his eyes, those golden eyes, was something not many people forget.
âDonât try to play dumb with me. I know what I saw last night.â To literally anyone else, you wouldâve sounded absolutely crazy, but something in the way his eyes narrowed told you he knew exactly what you were talking about.
Valko rests his head on his hand, seemingly bored with your accusation.
âWhat is it you think you saw?â
You march closer to his desk, high heels thumping softly on the carpet.
âI saw you.â You point a manicured finger at him. âYou were beating some guy up!â
Valko tenses as your volume rises. The walls in this building werenât exactly soundproof. His eyes darken, and he stands up, crossing his arms against his chest. His tall stature looms over yours.
âLower your voice,â he says, much darker than the calm person he was two minutes ago. Almost as a warning.
The fear you felt last night⌠You felt so helpless and scared. The memory of being terrified only irritates you further.
âNo! Not until you tell me what the hell it was I saw last night.â
âIâll call security-â
âThen call them!â You yell, your finger continuing to emphasize your point. âI know I saw you in that alley with me last night. You had all this leather covering you from head to toe, and you had ears! Wolf ears. I wonder how the company would feel if one of their own was possibly the creature terrorizing Linkon. A literal wolf in sheepâs clothing.â
Valko lets out an agitated sound, a snarl. His large hand shoots out to grab your wrist, not hard enough to hurt, but enough to send a message.
âForget what it is you saw last night.â He tells you, switching back to a calm state, though his stare was menacing. âIf you know whatâs good for you, this will be the last time you speak of it.â
âIs that a threat?â You challenge, wrenching your wrist from his grip. âSo that was you last night.â
âIâm afraid you are still mistaken, Miss,â Valko says, but that twitch of a smile on his face tells you differently. âIf I were some terrifying beast, Iâm sure HR would have found out about it by now.â
He pauses briefly, a ghost of a smile lifting to show you his pointy canines, âBut even so, you definitely werenât this brave last night.â
Your eyes widen, and heat rushes to your face. He dares mock you?
You grab your things. âThatâs fine. I never wanted to work for this shitty company anyway.â
That was such a lie, but your pride had gotten the better of you.
You shoulder your purse on and march back to the door. Maybe thereâs a bar you can drink your problems away⌠at 9 in the morning.
âSo I take it you donât want the job.â Valkoâs voice cuts off your tantrum.
You stop, just for a second, as you open the door just a crack. He catches that ounce of hesitation.
âAh, so you do want the job.â He nods his head and takes off the reading glasses.
âNo,â you scoff.
Yes, you understood that it was very unprofessional and a bit embarrassing for you to act like a grouchy child who hadnât taken their afternoon nap. You felt so out of character. You were usually someone who would just grin and bear it.
âThatâs a shame. Your file was very impressive. Graduated with honors from college. Interned at some of the most prestigious companies in your hometown. EonCore wouldâve been thrilled to have you.â
Shit. You just cost yourself the job youâve been dreaming of since you moved to Linkon City.
Tears of frustration start to well up, and you use every fiber of strength in your body to hold them in.
If only you had kept your mouth shut when you had the chance, but then you always wouldâve wondered about last night.
âIâll make you a deal, Miss.â Valko steps around the desk and walks towards you. He reaches over and shuts the door with a soft click as he towers over you. Your back is pressed against the cold glass window of the door.
You refuse to look away from him, holding his eyes captive with a defiant gaze.
âThe job is yours⌠if and only if you keep your mouth shut about last night. My business is my own, and I deserve privacy just as much as the next person.â He explains. âIf youâd rather pass the opportunity up and go to the police about it, thatâs fine. You can even say the chairman of EonCore Tech has sprouted ears. Weâll see who they believe.â
Valkoâs head cranes closer to yours and his voice lowers to a whisper, âThough I doubt it will be the girl who cried wolf.â
The company has officially filed your paperwork into their system. It was official, you now work at EonCore.
You were elated, but also a bit nervous. You didnât know how tensions would run with Valko. Maybe youâd get lucky and would barely see him.
Yeah, everything is going to be okay.
Today was your first day.
You scan your lanyard on the elevator, smiling at the grainy picture of yourself. It came out so much better than your driver's license photo. You click the twenty-sixth floor.
The same floor Valkoâs office was on.
Who cares. The chances of you working with him should be slim.
The elevator was smooth as it quickly ascended to one of the top floors. Linkon City practically whizzes by quickly and turns the wandering citizens into ant-sized critters.
You smile at Veronica, the lady at the front desk.
âYou ready for your first day?â She asks, handing you a clipboard and a flower pen to sign in.
âYeah, a little nervous, though.â You tell her and scribble your signature down.
âDonât be! Everyoneâs actually really excited to meet you. Your resume was impressive, and everyoneâs already talking about how sweet you are. Theyâll love you, and theyâll help if you have any questions.â
A faint blush coats your cheeks at her words. That was actually really helpful to hear.
âThanks, Veronica. What am I doing today?â
Veronica hums in thought as she turns and grabs a sheet of paper from the printer. Her dark red lips purse as she scans over the words under her thick black-rimmed glasses.
âIt looks like weâre actually putting you with one of our chairmen. Heâs the lead on the next big project, so youâll be assisting him with that...â
Oh no. It canât be-
âMr. Valko will be mentoring you.â
Fuck. There it is. Your shitty rotten luck.
You plaster a fake smile and start heading for his office, âGreat.â
âGood luck!â
Your pulse pounds in your ears with each footstep as you walk down the hallway. Dread fills your stomach when you reminisce about your little freak-out. In all fairness, Valko had the power to ban you from the premises, but he didnât. No, he gave you the job in exchange for your silence.
He did say my resume was impressive, so itâs not like I didnât earn the job.
Letâs just hope he takes me a little more seriouslyâŚ
Your knuckles hover over the frosted glass of his office door. The stark black letters are printed boldly across the wavy texture.
Mr. Valko.
You let out a breath and rap your knuckles softly.
âCome in.â
Opening the door, Valko sits at his desk with a laptop in front of him. A sleek black long-sleeve button-up covered his arms.
His eyes flick up to yours when you open the door, and his body bounces as he holds in a laugh.
âOf course youâre with me. What are the odds?â Valko shuts the laptop and stands up.
âIâm not exactly ecstatic about this either,â you say, handing him the paper from Veronica.
Valko takes it, his eyes scanning the words quickly, brows shooting up in surprise.
âOh, they want you on the Hyde project with me,â he says, âImpressive.â Valko sets the paper on his desk and grabs a white lab coat that was hanging on a coat rack in the corner.
He slips it on quickly, beckoning you to follow.
âLet me show you the lab. You can store your things down there. Not many people have clearance, so theyâll be safe.â He says, opening the door for you.
âYou have a lab?â You ask, tilting your head. âI thought you were just one of the chairmen.â
âOooh, easy,â Valko teases, raising a brow at your blunt implication. âI am a chairman, but Iâm also still very involved in the company. I like to get hands-on to decide which direction I want EonCore to follow.â Valko says, buttoning the cuffs on his lab coat.
Oh, great. Now he thinks youâve insulted him. One of the most powerful people in the company.
Good job.
You chew your cheek as you follow Valko down the hallway. He walks with such confidence, and youâre already planning to retire your heels after today with how many extra steps you have to take to keep up with him.
You smile politely at a few familiar faces in the halls as they wave at you. It makes you feel a bit calmer with how friendly and welcoming everyone has been.
Except for Valko. Itâs not that he was rude or anything, but you could tell the vibe was off since you had first officially met. The anxiety in your stomach swirled with chaos as your brain could just picture how miserable this project was going to be.
You two stand together in the elevator, the awkward silence blaring as the machine hums.
Valko shifts a bit stiffly, coughing lightly. âSo, I saw on your resume that a lot of your references are a few cities over⌠You just moved to Linkon?â
You glance at him, catching his eyes already looking at you. You clear your throat and nod.
âYeah, I just moved like two weeks ago. There are a lot of opportunities for my degree out here, so I thought Iâd give it a shot.â You answer, glancing back at your distorted figure in the reflective metal of the doors.
Valko nods, and he pauses a bit before his next question. âDo you like it here so far?â
âYeah, if you count seeing the wolf-man when youâre walking home late at night.â
Valko narrows his eyes at you, but you donât spare him a glance.
âMaybe youâd be safer if you didnât walk alone in the dark. It can be dangerous out here when youâre not careful.â
âTell that to the guy you beat up.â
Valko lets out a breath, and you can practically hear the frustration.
âHe deserved it.â
âDid he?â
âRemember our deal.â Valkoâs words were firm and left no room for you to want to continue pestering him with questions. âYouâre still on probation.â
You shake your head, mentally scolding yourself. âRight, Iâm sorry.â
Itâs tense as the elevator continues down past the ground-level floor.
After a few awkward breaths, you try to reconcile.
âI donât have my kitchen set up yet,â you confess quietly. âIâve been eating takeout every night- and I found this great place, but money has been tight after the move. Iâm tired of eating the same food, but I canât afford to spend money on a crappy meal⌠do you know anywhere else thatâs good?â
Valko lets out an amused exhale, tapping his foot.
âThereâs a really good spot on the corner of 9th and Elm. Itâs a sandwich shop, but they have huge portions and are not that pricey.â
Hmm, you havenât had a sub in a while.
âOh, thank you.â You give him a small smile, hoping to ease that tension.
Valko doesnât respond.
The elevator finally dings open, and you step out. A security guard greets you both, nodding his head at Valko and giving you a small smile.
You smile back.
âThis way.â
You turn on your heel and follow through a grand hall. Most of it was stark white, except for the silver metal of the machines.
One thing that was hard to ignore was that this floor wasnât as welcoming as the others. No bubbly receptionist peering over a large desk, no phones ringing endlessly begging to be picked up, not even the constant ticking of an analog clock.
Valko stops at a door up ahead. His fingers dance along the tablet on the wall, then he scans the lanyard dangling across his neck.
âLet me see yours.â Valko reaches out a hand behind him. You quickly fumble to get the thing off, luckily avoiding it getting caught in your hair.
You hand him your badge, and he holds it under the bright red scanner. The machine chirps and flashes a green banner across the screen.
Valko messes with the lanyard strap while the machine loads. He turns the badge over, eyes lingering over the grainy ID photo longer than youâd like before handing it back.
You swallow hard as his eyes rake over your picture. That did not help your nerves.
âJust scan your thumbprint, and youâre all set,â Valko says. You press your thumbprint against the small glass pad.
âInitializing data scan.â
The green lasers emit up and down the digit three times before it dings.
âScanning complete.â
âNow you have access to the lab whenever youâre working. However, your access is only authorized during office hours. Weâll get an alert if you try past 6 p.m.; thatâs an hour past the workday to finish what you need to do.â He explains. The paneled doors shift open with a âwhooshâ noise. The cool air conditioning embraced you, along with the scent of cleaning chemicals for sterilization.
You stifle a gasp, and your jaw practically drops open.
The lab was huge. It seemed to stretch on for miles. Large monitors hung on the walls, all displaying diagnostics on whatever mechanism they were connected to. Dozens of machines and computers were flocked by the employees.
âIs access after hours prohibited?â You ask, genuinely curious.
Your eyes widen in fascination at a large mechanical arm holding a cylindrical case. Behind the protective glass structure, the case glowed a bright golden amber.
Almost likeâŚ
Valkoâs eyes meet yours, passing by a few other people in white lab coats. They nod towards him. âYes. Youâre only a trainee at the moment, but even my regular employees follow the same rules. No one has access after hours except me.â
âGood morning, Mr. Valko!â A lady chimes from her workstation. Vibrant digital holograms are displayed around her as she types in a flurry. Looks like sheâs coding.
Valko nods briefly at her.
âChairman.â A man says, speeding past him while carrying an array of tools on a tray.
Another lady follows after him, âSir.â
Valko leads you to a large white desk, barren of any work.
âThis is Project Hyde.â Valko unlocks a drawer beneath the desk and slams a thick Manila file onto it. The sound makes you flinch a bit, and you grip the strap of your purse tighter.
âWeâre trying to get approval from the hunters association for the Beta program. Itâs going to take a few more meetings before we have the green light, but the plan is to sync their metaflux readers with our technologies, and after more development, we can send our bots out.â
Setting your things down on the desk, you take a seat in the cushioned swivel chair and flick through the pages in the thick file.
Various codes, plans, designs, and testing procedures were outlined in the packets. It was really impressive all the work they have put into the project so far.
âCombat protocols, emergency medical response calls, automated scanning frequencies,â you read off the headliners one by one. âWhat does it respond to?â
âWanderers. Itâs our newest creation. A robotic machine designed to hold off the wanderers in the city.â
Wanderers. There werenât too many of them located where you were since your hometown was farther from the Deepspace tunnel. Just a sighting here and there, but nothing compared to what youâve seen on the news in Linkon.
âWhat about the hunters? Donât they normally handle the wanderers?â Your eyes scan over the blueprint drawings of the robot. The dimensions were pretty large, and it seemed heavily armored.
Valko hums, leaning over you, flipping to the section labeled âHunters Associationâ. Dozens of their statistics were labeled.
âYes, of course. This would simply be a roadblock of sorts. Something to distract the wanderer to limit casualties and damage to the city. Taxpayers arenât too happy right now with the recent rise in wanderer activity, and most huntersâ response time is twenty minutes.â
Hmm, not a bad ideaâŚ
Valko explains the project in more detail, helping you become familiar with the robot's features and functionality.
Finally, Valko leads you to a sectioned-off part of the lab. âThis is where we bring it to life.â
Unlocking the heavy door, Valko pushes it open for you and flicks on the light.
You gasp in amazement at the sight of the robot⌠or what will be the robot. A large skeleton of metal stands tall with careful craftsmanship.
It was almost double the height of Valko from the looks of it.
âSheâs not much now,â Valko says, running a hand smoothly down the arm. âBut itâs a work in progress.â
âWow,â you exhale. It really was amazing. You walk closer, your eyes marveling at the precision in the welding and design. The joints were reinforced to withstand the impact of heavier attacks. A lot thicker than what was shown in the early-stage sketches.
The main circuit board resided in the âchestâ area, much like a human, even being protected by a spider-like structure around it, as if it were a ribcage. Every cable and pipe was meticulously routed and bent in the perfect place to sustain any damage.
âI take it youâre impressed?â Valko asks, looking at you fondly. He grabs a controller from the desk.
Hmm, that looked just like a controller from a gaming console.
âImpressed doesnât even begin to describe it.â
Valko clicks a button on the controller, and the machine whirs to life. The frame shifts a bit as it fully wakes up.
âHyde-01 ready to serve.â
Youâre a bit spooked by the machine's deep mechanical voice as it echoes in the room.
Valko moves the joystick on the controller, and the metal flows smoothly with its movements, placing one thick, reinforced foot in front of the other.
You let out an excited laugh as the robot continues to move a few steps before Valko disengages its commands.
âWow!â You turn to him, a big smile on your face. This day was quickly turning around. âWhat else can it do?â
The corner of Valkoâs lips curls up into the faintest smile.
âThatâs it for now. Baby steps with this thing. Our technicians inspect it daily to make sure the circuits can handle our commands without overheating.â He sets the controller down and watches as you inspect the robot more closely. âBesides the movement, all she can do is a quick medical scan to determine if civilians are injured.â
âThatâs all she can do?â You repeat, shock in your voice. âThis is insanely impressive, sir.â
Valko waves off your compliment as if it doesnât boost his ego a bit.
âWould you like to see?â He picks up the remote again and presses the top button. Two bionic eyes blink a bright neon green as they shift towards you, the gears whirring in their chest cavity as they process the command.
Its eyes fade to an icy blue, and a flat lattice laser shoots out from them. It scans you from top to bottom, then back up to the crown of your head before the light strobes.
The robot's voice sounds off again.
âSubject: adult female. Heart rate: 135 beats per minute. Status: healthy, no signs of trauma detected.â
Incredible.
"Not such a shitty company after all, huh?"
Your cheeks flush at hearing your stupid words from earlier.
Valko soon activates the command to shut down the robot completely. Â As it turns to head back to its power base, the robot suddenly stalls. The heavy groaning noise of the metal continuously scraping together makes you cringe as the machine glitches.
Valko curls his lip up at the noise, seemingly more bothered by it than you are.
âHang on, sheâll do that sometimes.â He crouches down by the robot's leg, hands hovering over the joint where the knee is.
You inch forward, curious about what he was doing. You finally see the issue. A stray piece of metal had been poking the ball joint of its leg, and causing it to stutter and make that awful screeching noise.
Valkoâs hand covers the piece of metal. A grey aura swirls around his hand as thin fragments of the jagged piece of metal begin to bend at his will. Slowly, the metal piece begins to diminish away from the joint. Your eyes donât miss a second as the orbiting fragments seem to then vanish into thin air as if the mistake had never existed.
Valko restarts the command, and the robot moves again, this time with more fluid motion as its mechanical steps return to the charging base.
The gears whir and wind down, and the once neon green eyes dim down before powering off.
You look towards your boss with an incredulous gaze. âYouâre an evolver.â
Not a question, no, from what you just saw, that was a direct statement.
Valkoâs eyes remain locked on his hand, the tingly feeling from using his power slowly fading away. âI am.â
âThatâs so cool!â You gush, stepping closer. âIâve heard about a lot of people having evols in Linkon, but I havenât met anyone with one yet.â
âIt comes in handy, but only for work. Metallization isnât really something I have any personal use for.â He stands up straighter, turning his back to you as he arranges some of the tools on the table.
Judging by his body language and tone, this might not be something Valko prefers to talk about.
How oddâŚ
"Sir?"
"Hm?"
"What's that glowing thing in that canister? The one behind the glass."
Valko glances back at your briefly, "It's a protocore."
"What is that?"
Finally, he turns fully towards you, seemingly curious at the question. "You've never heard of them before?"
Shaking your head, you fiddle with the sleeve of your blouse.
"It's an energy source we extract from wanderers." He explains, leading you outside the room.
You follow him to the center of the lab where the canister was on display. It still faintly glows that wondrous shade of gold.
"They are extremely dangerous and incredibly powerful, which is why it's heavily guarded."
Almost like sunlight encased in metal.
Looking back at your boss and the canister, it's almost uncanny how close his eyes resembled the protocore.
Valko catches your glances and clears his throat, moving his gaze to the computer dashboard attached to the barrier. "Its power helps us move forward with our advancement in Linkon. Though they're still quite rare, especially this specific stellactrum. It took a lot of meetings for the city to let us keep it in our custody."
By the end of the day, Valko sends you off with one of the interns to introduce yourself and familiarize yourself with the rest of the staff. There were so many intellectual people, all of whom you were eager to work with.
The intern, Phoebe, makes small talk as she leads you back to your desk. She asked you a bit about your background, like what school you went to and other opportunities you had before starting at EonCore.
"...Yeah, and I graduate next spring. I'm just worried about finding a job after that. I would love to work with everyone here."
"I wouldn't worry about that too much," you say, giving her an encouraging smile. "I know you'll find a stable job after college. My hometown had lots of opportunities for people with our type of degree. If you can't find anything out here, I can definitely leave a good word with the institute I used to work for."
Phoebe's eyes light up, and you can tell she's trying to keep her excitement at bay. "You would really do that?"
You nod, "Of course! I knew I wanted to work out here too, but it definitely required me to bulk up my resume before doing so."
One of the scientists called Phoebe's name. Her short blonde hair bounces as she quickly turns her head and shouts out a quick 'coming!' The young girl thanks you again and hurries over.
Valko strides into view as Phoebe leaves, carrying his lab coat over one shoulder.
"Bribery won't get you friends here." He comments, handing you a tablet. You frown at him, taking the small device and reviewing it. It was a schedule.
And almost every hour was noted with some type of priority.
'Meeting with the lawyers.'
'Meeting with the Hunter's Association.'
'Testing for Hyde-01.'
"I was not bribing her." You say, trying to hide the disgust in your voice from the accusation. "I was just helping her out a bit if she needed it. I know what it's like to be scared about your career, especially when this world doesn't particularly cater to women in STEM."
Valko's teasing demeanor seems to soften a bit, then he clears his throat before changing the subject. "That's tomorrow's schedule. You'll be with me for the entire day."
You furrow your brows, scrolling through the long list on tomorrow's agenda. "I thought I would be working in the lab permanently."
The man only shakes his head. "Uh uh, I need you to be aware of all the things that need to be approved with Project Hyde. That includes the legalities, money, and research that go into it as well. There's already too much time and money invested in this project to lose it all to a simple mistake from a new hire."
Valko sees your expression drop and releases an exhale, "Believe me, if I could spend all my time down here, I would. Remember, baby steps. It'll all be worth it in the end."
Valko grabs the thick folder containing the project details.
âStudy up,â he says, dropping the folder on the desk with a loud slam.
He mustâve really liked doing thatâŚ
âI need you prepared for our meetings tomorrow.â
Most of the staff had gone home by now, with only a few stations left with their lights still on. Phoebe and the scientist she was assigned to hovered over the computer, discussing the project in further depth.
When the chilly evening air hits your face, you shiver, clutching the file tighter against your coat. Checking the time, you let out a breath. Looks like you have enough time to stop by that sandwich place before catching the last train of the night.
Luckily, the walk wasnât that far from the subway station.
Iâm going to burn these heels laterâŚ
You follow the directions on your phone and step into the cozy sandwich shop. The smell of freshly cut meat and cheese greeted you the second you opened the door, and the little bell on top chimes upon your entry. The walls were painted red and covered with picture frames of the different generations whoâve worked in the past. Checkered tablecloths covered the small tables in the dining area, with little candles lit on each one.
The line wasnât too bad, just a mother with two small children. The worker wraps up their sandwiches quickly when he notices the toddler balanced on the mother's hip started to become fussy.
You scroll on your phone while the worker finishes up with them. The bell above the door chimes again, but you donât look up, too busy trying to respond to everyoneâs texts before you forget again.
You send quick texts to your family about your first day and inform them youâll call once youâre home. Your mother practically sends you every encouraging sticker she can find, while your dad and siblings respond with a simple thumbs-up.
âGood to see you again, Mr. Valko!â The worker chimes in as he hands the bagged sandwiches to the mother.
You freeze.
Are you kidding me?
Locking your phone, you turn to see none other than your boss standing behind you. He gives you a cocky smirk before greeting the worker, âHey, Warren, Iâll just have my usual.â
Warren nods before looking over to you, âAnd you, miss?â
âUh, I might need a minute,â you tell the worker, leaning back slightly to turn back to Valko. âWhat do you recommend?â
Your boss shuffles as his eyes rake over the menu. Valko hums and shuffles his stance before finally nodding his head towards the special.
Valko catches Warrenâs eye, and your boss steps forward, âSheâll have the same.â
Your eyes follow and widen slightly when you read the menu.
Mr. V
âYou seriously have a sandwich named after you?â You ask, wanting to almost laugh, but the shock gets to you first. âHow much did that cost?â
Valko leans closer to you as his voice lowers in volume. âThe place was in a bad financial spot and was on the verge of shutting down a few years ago. I really like this place and didnât want to see it go under, so I made a donation.â
So, you did technically pay for it.
Man, why are you such a good person?
Warren finishes wrapping the sandwiches and moves over to the register. You quickly pull out your wallet to pay for yours, but Valko reaches around you with a gold card. The machine reader beeps as it receives the payment.
You turn to Valko, confusion on your face. âSir?â
Valko places his wallet back into the pocket of his blazer and nods at you, âThat was a reward for surviving your first day. Not many people do, believe it or not.â
Valko takes the bag from Warren and hands it to you, then grabs his own. Heâs already moving to the door, pausing briefly to look back at you.
âEight oâclock tomorrow.â The bell above him chimes as he makes his exit. âIâd like a hot mocha latte when you come in.â
âHey, honey! How was your first day?â Your momâs voice rings over the speaker of the phone. You sit on your small sofa, the pages of the project scattered across the cushions and coffee table. Your sandwich was somewhere under this mess.
âUhh, it was good. Weird, but good.â You tell her, lifting documents and data sheets, looking for the damned thing.
âTell me everything. I want to hear all about it.â
You chuckle at her excitement. You can hear your siblings faintly arguing over something mundane while your dadâs voice cuts over them, trying his best to diminish the fight.
Grabbing the remote, you mute the sitcom you had playing on in the background.
âSounds busy there, everything okay?â You ask your mother, still looking for your sandwich.
Your mom yells at your siblings, and you canât be bothered to hide the small laugh when itâs silent after.
There you are!
One of the throw pillows had ended up falling over it and you toss the pillow, practically snatching your dinner like an animal. The paper crinkles under your touch as you unwrap it.
âOh, yes, just fighting over the remote again,â she explains. âBut work was good?â
You take a bite of the sandwich. Mustard drips onto your lips as you savor the sandwich. The bread was toasted to perfection, the condiments complemented the smokiness of the meat and cheese, and the veggies were crisp and fresh.
Summary: An unexpected announcement has you fearing for your life the day before a very important interview.
BRING HIM BACK BRO
Series masterlist: here
Linkon was a bit darker than usual. The seasons were shifting again, and the sun was disappearing much quicker than a few weeks ago.
I shouldâve prepared better.
You had an important job interview in the morning, but unfortunately couldnât find the outfit you were planning to wear to your interview. In all fairness, you had just moved to this apartment complex in Linkon City and most of your stuff was still packed away in boxes scattered across the small apartment.
Sirens wailed somewhere in the city as you tightened your grip on the plastic shopping bag. A department store downtown was open a little later than expected, so you dashed over to find business attire.
I definitely shouldâve called a cabâŚ
You werenât used to the city yet or the sounds and you had gotten lost twice on your way to the store. Luckily, you had read up on Linkon before moving out here. The crime rate was lower than neighboring cities- but that didnât mean it was zero. At least you only had about twenty more minutes before you were due to arrive home.
Surely it wouldnât be too bad⌠right?
The wind sweeps your hair over your shoulder and you shudder, pulling your coat tighter. There was hardly a soul on the streets. Once the work day had ended, many residents had hurried home to beat the small bit of rain that had left the city in a cold and wet state.
A noise rings out over the now distant sirens. Not just any noise; nothing like the typical city noises of car horns honking or the birds chirping.
A howl.
Not one of the neighborhood dogs couldâve ever made a sound like that.
Swallowing hard, you hesitantly crane your head over your shoulder but only see the empty downtown streets.
You pick up the pace.
You check the maps on your phone once again. The light blue line lights up as it zigzags through the cityâs layout. The glowing route bent sharply to the right, not at the intersection over a mile away, but a dark alleyway.
You scoff, checking your surroundings briefly again for anything before clicking the âalternativeâ route option. A few other blue arrows pop up, but they wouldâve all added at least fifteen more minutes.
The phone rapidly buzzes in your hands as an alert covers the gps.
A warning.
Emergency Alert: A high-risk beast has been reportedly sighted within Linkon City. Residents are advised to stay indoors and secure all doors and windows.
Fifteen minutes was time you did not have.
The woods were miles away from Linkon City. Thereâs no way you shouldâve heard a wolf this far out, then again, the alert didnât mention a wolf⌠but a beast.
Besides worrying about the potential threat in the city, you still had a lot of unpacking to do and you needed to throw the new clothes in the washing machine.
Shit.
Chewing on the inside of your cheek, you decide to follow the original path no matter how creepy.
The alleyway was deserted, which you were grateful for. Rainwater glistens across the cracked pavement and a large dumpster stands crooked off to the side with a few pieces of trash scattered.
A thin curtain of fog drifted towards the end of the alley, swallowing whatever was waiting on the other side.
Another howl.
Closer.
A crash was heard coming from a small and narrow turn. You stop cold, holding your breath.
The sound of something smacking metal ricocheted across the alley.
A muffled yelp.
Then a dull smack.
Oh no.
Everything in your body was telling you to turn around and take the extra fifteen minutes of walking, but the alley was too narrow to sprint back without drawing attention.
Cautiously you took one step forward, praying whatever was around the corner stayed there.
Then another.
Suddenly, a body. A man.
He crashes against the pavement and scrambles around to get up.
Another figure emerges from the same small corner, stalking over the first with a deadly gaze.
Neither has spotted you yet.
The larger figure stands over the man on the ground, his thick boots splashing against the small puddles.
The figure grabs the man by the front of his shirt with his gloved hands.
âIf I ever see you around my territory again-â
He had stopped.
Shit.
Slowly, the figures head turned.
Youâre silent for the most part- unless the guy can hear your heart beating rapidly against your chest.
Oh my god.
He wasnât looking at the terrified man anymore. He was looking at you.
This is not how I die.
The man on the floor writhes underneath the figures hold. His loud grunts are the only sound cutting between you and the figures stare.
The man takes the distraction as an opportunity to bolt. He doesnât even spare you or the mysterious figure another glance as he scrambles into a run and disappears through the foggy exit.
The hooded man stands up straight and watches the guy escape.
Run. Run right now.
The figure slowly turns back to you.
You quickly pivot on your heels, but thenâŚ
âHey!â
The figures loud voice cuts off your movements. Every muscle locks and you swear your throat starts to get tighter too. Letting out a shaky whimper, your brain quickly tries to process the options.
If you did run, you had no idea if he was armed. He could catch you- kill you even.
Tears quickly lined your waterline like a burning dam about to burst.
I shouldâve just splurged for same-day delivery.
Your watery gaze flickers up to him and from the moonlight beaming down through the clouds, you notice his bright golden eyes underneath the hood that covers most of his face.
Swallowing the thick knot forming in your throat, you shake your head and hold out your hands in defense.
âL-look, I didnât see anything, Iâm just trying to go homeââ
The guy clicks his tongue and shakes his head, âYou havenât been watching the news, have you?â
His voice was deep, very masculine. He kicks a dented can across the floor. You practically flinch, taking a step back as he takes one closer.
This time, he raises his own hands. âIf I wanted to hurt you, you wouldnât be talking to me.â
Your body positions itself to run if need be. Thereâs no way you trust him.
âIâm just a little pissed you interrupted my evening. You distracted me enough to let that guy go.â
Your eyes look away from his, heat filling up your face. What a great way this night is ending. This was so weird.
âLet me just go h-home, a-and you can find him again.â You say, failing to hide the tremble in your voice.
The stranger waves off your words, âNah, he got the message.â
The stranger continues to stare.
You swallow again, the tears finally trickling down your face. A fat droplet dribbled down your cheek and falls to the ground, splattering across the pavement.
The stranger head raises, tilting towards the sky as he inhales deeply.
Is he⌠sniffing the air?
âGo home.â The figure says sharply.
Your head cranes to the side. Confusion has you furrowing your eyebrows as your gaze flickers to the length of the alleyway behind him.
âWhat?â
The man takes a few more steps closer, slow and deliberate. On instinct, you step back.
His voice lowers, âGo home.â
A gust of wind scatters the trash farther from the dumpster. The billowing breeze sweeps up, carrying your hair in its wake and even knocks the figures leather hood off of his head.
The material collapses against his neck and you could finally make out his features. A chiseled jawline and sharp cheekbones caught the full moons glow, but what held you captive was the sharp glare coming from his ominous golden eyes.
Above those captivating eyes was short kept hair that reflected strangely under the moonlight, almost the color of faded wine. Mustâve been a trick of the moon⌠Your eyes finally settle to what sits atop his hair.
A pair of wolf ears.
The same dusty auburn color of his hair.
Your breath gets caught.
It had to be a practical joke of some sort. You almost didnât believe it until they twitched.
Finally, the stranger latches onto your wrist, his grip tight as those eyes of his bore themselves into your soul.
âGo home,â he grits, yanking you past him in the direction of the exit. âI wonât ask nicely again.â
Thousands of questions run through your mind and your brain couldnât fathom an answer for a single one. None of this made sense.
You turn around to meet the stranger again, but he was gone. Your stomach tilts and your eyes scan the alley for any sign of him.
You blink.
Not a damn thing.
He just disappeared.
Then, another howl pierces the stillness of the night.
But it wasnât as close as it had sounded before. If anything, it was farther now.
It takes a few minutes for you to move, your bones frigid with fear. Gripping the bag in your hands, you shakily put one foot in front of the other and continue your path home.
The next morning, the sun shines high in the sky, greeting Linkon with a warm morning despite the chill from last night.
You smooth over your pencil skirt as you step out of the cab. Dozens of people bustled loudly through the square with their briefcases and cellphones pressed tightly to their ears. An opposite reflection compared to last night.
You throw your empty latte cup in the trash as you enter the building to EonCore Tech.
The receptionist smiles at you as you approach the desk.
You give her the information about your interview and woman nods, her fingers scatter across the keyboard.
Her head tilts to the side, âOh, Maria actually called in sick today. Poor thing caught a cold from the weather last night. Weâre actually going to have one of our executives conduct your interview today.â
âOh, okay, that sounds great.â It actually didnât. One of the executives? Now your nerves were really shot.
âIâll have one of our interns show you up.â The receptionist smiles again, before handing you a guest pass which you clip onto your blouse.
A lanky boy, looking no older than twenty, escorts you up the elevator. He makes a bit of small talk to cover the droning hum of the lift.
You were only half-paying attention, focused more on the scenery of Linkon City descending outside the glass window.
It wasnât until he mentioned the emergency alert from last night, that you focused more on his story.
âYeah, I kept hearing these noises, then I look out the window and the whole city seemed deserted.â The boy mentions, fiddling with the lanyard around his neck. âI could hardly sleep last night.â
You nod at his words, giving him a tight lipped smile, âyou have no idea.â
The elevator chimes, interrupting your conversation and the boy leads you down the carpeted hallway.
âYouâre interview will be taking place here,â he explains and knocks on the tinted glass door.
A deep âcome inâ is heard and the boy peeks his head inside.
âI have your next interview ready.â
âGood, send them in.â
The boy opens the door wider for you, âgood luck, Miss.â
You smile warmly at him and step in the office.
You take a deep breath as a mental reminder to relax, but when your eyes meet the manâs sitting at the desk, your stomach practically drops to your feet.
Those golden eyesâŚ
Your pulse thunders in your ears.
Last night wasnât some crazy nightmare. It was real. He was real.
A look of surprise jumps on the manâs face before he shakes it away and offers you a smirk.
Visions from last night replay in your head. Your eyes flick to the top of his head.
No wolf ears. Just those short wisps of faded wine-colored hair. He wasnât clad in leather either. Instead, he wore a crisp navy dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows showing off his tanned arms.
He stands up and extends a hand.
You stare at the outstretched hand no longer covered by leather gloves like they were last night.
âGo on, I donât bite.â
A light flush coats your cheeks and snaps you out of your frazzled state.
Be professional.
Cautiously, you reach out as well, shaking his calloused palm the coolness of the large ring he wore seeps into your skin.
Because I got an idea, and now I may want to drag you into it as well...
Favourites, favourites, favourites...
Who are your favourites and why?
I'm the type of player that gets hooked on a character like a drug, and then it consumes me for a little while (...or a slightly longer while if I feed it... Years, sometimes). I'm fairly boring in that regard -- one primary favourite is more than enough.
My first Ikemen obsession was Masamune. Lord, I loved his route. I think his character construction is extremely interesting -- he's wild, he's a flirt, he's fearless, but... Below all that, there's actually a very capable, reliable person. An anxious person. A person who doesn't consider himself to be enough, who strives extremely hard to make up for his own insufficient nature, who chooses to wear strength like a piece of armour. A person who's so afraid to lose somebody yet once again that he chooses not to be attached in the first place. I adored his curiosity and his diligence. Masamune always made it all look so effortless, but if we go by what master Kosai said, it was anything but.
But that mix is what got me invested. Raising to strength despite your weaknesses, overcoming yourself, abandoning the ugly, imperfect parts to then return to them... Ugh!
In a way, I got the hit of the same poison when I read Chevalier's route. Granted, he's more than perfect if we go by academic accomplishments or physical prowess, but he also is seen as lacking in fundamental ways. He's moulded by duty, defined by it, and yet... Even if he can carry the label effortlessly, the things he yearns for are outside his reach precisely because of it. He's reliable. Capable. Intelligent. Accomplished... Troubled by preparing a date plan and -- according to him -- insufficient in his care. He doesn't reject the objections against him, rather, Chevalier chooses to accept and affirm them. There is something soft about him, hidden beneath all that ruthless hardness, and it just begs to be soothed, to be seen. There is a fragile, sweet side to him even he is blind to.
And you know what?
When the strong are weak my knees can barely stand it.
Too.
Goddamn.
GOOD.

@the12thnightproject @my-day6 @iphigeniainaulis @jinniedoesblogging @rkmaru @oda-princess , wanna share your experiences too? :3 And maybe tag your friends if you want to... we could make it a game :3 Make your own post, reblog this one, anything that gets us all talking :3
And if you're seeing it and feel like doing it? Oh come on, you're invited to! Bring a friend along and tag me in your post so that I can see it! I'm curious!
@lorei-writes I love this idea, and it fits nicely in with the upcoming release of the new Ikemen Sengoku app in a few weeks.
I have four biases in the game...
Shingen⌠I know that the standard at-a-glance trope of Shingen is the hunky flirt (and ok, yes he is a hunky flirt), but what got me is the fact that the flirtatiousness, while still being as natural to him as (ok, I guess I shouldn't say as natural as breathing, eep) blinking, is a cover for his strategic activities. For him flirting isn't just flirting, it's tactics. There's a brain in there, and not only is he book smart (history, politics, engineering, battleground plans), but he's emotionally intelligent. In every Kasugayama route (and Kennyo's), he helps MC and her LI get together providing a sounding board and insight for the MC to help her to understand her man's heart.
When it comes to his own route, Iâm a sucker for a they-rescue-each-other trope, and at the core, that what his story is. The adult amongst all the Kasugayama crazies, the one who knows how to solve everyone elseâs problems, but ignores his own until itâs too late. He's kind, he cares about everyone around him, and ... yes, he's a hunk.
Sasuke... the hot nerd.
Sasuke, his middle name might be adaptability. Where else can you find a physics geek who not only cracks the mystery of time travel, but upon doing so, ends up becoming a ninja for the God of War. I love his goofy sense of humor, his exhaustive knowledge of modern memes and culture, and his utmost respect for women, no matter what century he's living in.
Hanging out with Sasuke would just be plain old fun. If Sasuke lived in my city, I know that I could text him something like, "hey, do you want to go to the Ren Fest this weekend" and he be at my door in moments, wearing a historically accurate costume. He'd go joke for joke with the jesters, then somehow manage to sneak into a jousting competition and win.
Mitsunari... if I have a type, it's for the smart guys, even if they are the absentminded professor types. Mitsunari is often typecast as a ditz, but he's not an idiot. It's that he is sooooo booksmart that he has no common sense (something my mother also accused me of having none of). His brain is working on esoteric strategy, complex mathematics, that the every day stuff doesn't make its way into his consciousness.
Of all the characters in Ikesen, Mitsunari is universally kind to everyone, also thinks the best of his fellow warlords, and walks around with a smile on his face. The fun of Mitsunari's route is watching him discover the outside world and his place in it. He isn't used to examining his emotions, isn't even aware he has them, and it's a joy to see him get out of his own brain and realize his potential.
Mitsuhide, a universal favorite of so many, snuck up on me. I enjoy his trickster personality, but it was only when I started writing fanfic that I began to fall for him. He kept showing up in my longfics as a side character, and he and my OC had such great time bantering with each other, that I had to take a deeper look.
He thinks of himself as a bad guy - not a villain - but the guy who is willing to do bad things for a good cause, to do those bad things because someone has to, and he refuses to let anyone else's souls be burdened by what he had decided he must do. I love that over the course of his routes (especially the eternal route) he learns to accept help from other people, accept that maybe he's not as much of a bad guy as he pretends.... but that he still enjoys the role from time to time.
Another public service announcement. This time itâs air quality. Some of you are probably in it already if youâre in eastern Canada, New England or New York, but itâs sliding south, a huge mass of wildfire smoke. Please be careful. When it starts getting bad, especially, like when the sky gets orange or brownish, itâs best to run air purifiers in the house and wear N95 or KN95 masks when you have to go outside.
It harms your lungs and itâs especially bad for children (and pets!) or anyone with health problems. There are all kinds of chemicals in that smoke. Itâs not only trees that are burning. The heat already makes it harder to breath. This makes it worse.
If any of you are experiencing it, feel free to tell about it in the comments. đ
Also, throw out the mask every day and shower before you get in bed if youâve been out or youâll be breathing the particles all night. Stuff like that. It gets all over you, your skin, your hair, your clothes.

âDo you remember the first time we had sex?â [Crack/Smut]
It was nearing two in the morning, you simply couldn't sleep. Sylus knew that, of course, so he was up beside you. Lamp still on, book in hand, wire rim glasses sitting low on the bridge of his nose. âIs the sky blue, sweetie?â He didnât bother looking away from his page, but the question certainly earned a quirk of his too pretty lips.Â
âNo, I mean like⌠do you remember all the details?â You roll onto your side, dropping your phone and propping yourself on your closed fist. You werenât even sure why your first time with Sylus had entered your mind, but now you simply couldnât rest if you didnât know the answer. This time, he dropped the book to his lap, head turning to peer down at you with one brow perfectly raised. âI mean, of course?âÂ
âLike?â You blink at him, waiting for some sort of example and Sylus canât stop the bewildered laugh that rattled his chest. âLike? You want me to describe our first time from memory?â His book is completely forgotten now, you have his full undivided attention. âYeah, I wanna compare notes, see if we remember it the same way.âÂ
Your grin is wicked despite your eyes shining with innocence, he canât help but feel as if heâs fallen into your trap⌠oh well. Too late now, right?
âYou came on to me first, after I carried you up to the bedroom. You pushed me down onto the couch and then straddled my lap. You initiated our first kiss.â You felt heat sink low, a vivid memory of Sylusâ flushed cheeks and surprised expression when his back had hit the couch flashing in your mind.Â
âI remember you waiting so patiently for me to initiate that kiss, even struggling to keep your hands from moving up to grab my ass.â You tease fondly, smiling a little wider when Sylus snickers at the thought. âYou know your comfort is always my priority, I wasnât going to push my luck before I knew it was what you truly wanted.â
âBut you could see my desires, couldn't you?â A beat of silence as he observes you, smiling softly before speaking. âSeeing them isnât the same as hearing them. I needed you to act upon them at the very least before I could allow myself to move.âÂ
âWhat a gentleman.â And you meant it, truly. Even as he laughed, you could tell he knew you were being genuinely honest with him at that moment. âI remember kissing you and never wanting to stop.â He carries on, arms folding over his broad expanse of chest as he watches you inhale. âI remember your tongue trying to jump down my throat.âÂ
âYou loved it.â You had⌠you even moaned. âThatâs when you grabbed my ass, pulled me closer, but you wouldnât let me grind on youâŚâ You pout at him, as if still upset. Like he hadnât fucked you stupid in front of that god damn fireplace that night. âI would have cum in my pants then and there had I let you touch me.â Oh. That was news to you.Â
You pushed up on your hands and knees. âWhat?!â A genuine whispered shriek of shock, eyes wide and mouth agape as you blink at your lover of two years. The event youâre both recalling having happened a year and a half ago. âItâs the truth, kitten. I was excited.âÂ
It was gonna be longer but I really gotta get back to that Xavier smut I was working on... - Soul

zayne wants to put his head in his hands, but the quivering student in front of him already looks frightened enough.
âh-hey, dr. li. you wanted to talk about my paper?â
âyes,â zayne responds. âwhile serving as a special lecturer this semester, iâve been exposed to many writing styles. however, on your most recent assignment, yours doesn't seem quite as human as your classmatesâ. it reads a bitâŚartificial.âÂ
itâs an accusation veiled in a cheap mask and a trench coat. the student knows where this is headed; still, they try to hold their ground. âiâm sorry?â
pushing his glasses up on the bridge of his nose, zayne pulls out the offending paper from his oak desk drawer. âwell, right here, for example. in your concluding paragraph, âyouâ seem to write in circles, without ever establishing a coherent point.â he clears his throat and begins reading.
ââa healthy heart isnât just a benefit â itâs the key to a good life. why is this? the answer isnât hard to guess â itâs straightforward. cardiovascular health doesnât improve fitness. it is fitness. itâs life. itâs longevity. itâs legacy. in the quiet uncertainties of humanity, itâs the thing that never stops beating,ââ he recites.Â
the student fidgets with their hands. âyup! that sums up everything i learned this unit.â
âhm. what especially caught my eye,â zayne adds dryly, âis this bit right before the ending lines. it differs vastly in tone. itâs conversational and strangely reassuring, as though someone forgot to remove it before submission.â he reads aloud once again.
ââfor a three-thousand-word heart anatomy paper, this works as a brief but interesting conclusion paragraph on the impact of cardiovascular fitness. if you want me to edit for tone or clarity, just let me knâââ
betrayed by their refusal to proofread, the student finally cracks. âokay, okay! i get it. i didnât realize i left the prompt in there before i hit âsubmit.ââ they scratch their neck sheepishly, looking anywhere but their professor. âi just had a busy weekend, dr. li. i was going to write it myself, i swear, but the game on friday went into overtime, and then my roommate got dumped and i had to comfort them, and there was so much traffic on the way back from the barââ
âi understand.â
the student freezes at zayneâs calm voice, shoulders sagging in relief. âreally? so you'll let it go?â
âno.â zayne says simply. âwhen a patient is bleeding out on the table, your intelligence will need to be anything but artificial. youâll receive a failing grade for this assignment. however, since you eventually admitted your misdeed, i will open extra credit opportunities to you in the coming weeks. if you continue to seek outside help from anything but the campus tutoring center or my office hours, you may be subject to expulsion.â
the studentâs face flashes through the stages of grief. his tone is so crisp, his voice so final, that all that comes out is a feeble squeak. âyes, sir. iâm sorry.â
zayne plucks off his glasses and lays them on the desk. sighing, he gathers the âessayâ in his hands and returns it to the student. âapologize to yourself. youâre a bright person, but you severely underestimate your own intellectual abilities by trying to take shortcuts. donât let it cost you your future.â
