THE VAMPIRE LESTAT - Hit The Lights (Bare Bones)

So — where are our French modernist academics?
We’re two episodes into The Vampire Lestat and there have been two references to Baudelaire.
First reference, first episode: the auction. The auctioneer says that the music collection includes “A song cycle on the classical vein set to the poetry of Baudelaire.”
When that’s said, the camera flashes to Louis, who blinks and looks down. As if it means something to him.
Second reference, second episode: when Lestat is playing the piano and (beautifully) singing LaFonte.
Gabriella is annoyed when he sings in French, to which Lestat replies, “Italy never made a Baudelaire.” She doesn’t respond but still looks annoyed.
SO: Charles-Pierre Baudelaire was a French poet and critic. 1821-1867.
His most famous work is a book of lyric poetry titled “Les Fleurs du mal” (the flowers of evil). Aaccording to Wikipedia, it expresses the changing nature of beauty in the rapidly industrialising Paris.
Apparently, Baudelaire coined the term modernity as a way to designate the fleeting experience of life in an urban metropolis, and the responsibility of artistic expression to capture that experience. He’s known as the first modernist.
So what’s the significance to Leatat?
— Lestat could possibly be seen as the first modern vampire. He broke up Armand’s coven by saying they were living in the past.
— Lestat had a “fleeting experience of life in an urban metropolis”
— Lestat might feel like he has the responsibility to capture that experience through artistic expression.
I don’t know enough to offer cool speculation. But the pensive look Louis gave caught my attention and the annoyed response from Gabriella has me even more curious.
I wonder if we’ll get more references. I’m curious to see where this goes, if it goes anywhere at all.
i've started reading tvl and no amount of posts telling me there's a "huge tonal shift" could have prepared me for this HUGE TONAL SHIFT this is the funniest fucking thing i've ever read it genuinely goes like:

How long did it take them to figure out that it could actually be done? That's staggering.

Two of them do small comedy fights in the background between their parts, trying to take the other's place beside the cello. It's a pretty tight fit, and at some points there are four bows almost touching as they all saw the strings.

Proper firing technique:
Hands are wrapped correctly around grip
Thumbs are well away from slide
Arms are thrust forward, with right one pushing out, and left providing resistance pulling inward
Weapon is brought to eye level, aligning with back sight to ensure accurate sight picture
Shooter is presenting torso and hips where body armor is most likely to cover, instead of angling body to the side/favoring a one leg forward stance which would reveal unprotected flanks
Hair is long and sexy and expression is pissed off as hell
Body armor is form-fitting and bondage-like
Arm is metal
Assassin provides appropriate amount of angst by not remembering former lover, but wanting him dead anyway and proving willingness to do the job personally

All right, I was forced to start up a tumblr just to post this thing. So, I watched the first five seasons of Supernatural while doing field research on the birds of northern Alaska, and when Castiel spread his wings for the first time my first thought was “Oh look, that angel’s in molt”.
For the whole rest of season 4 I kept thinking of him as “the molting angel.” I kept wondering what on earth had happened to him in Hell that left his wings so messed up, such that he had to do an out-of-season molt with both alulas broken. And I kept wondering whether his new feathers had come in all right!
But mostly I became convinced that Castiel must have suffered some real injuries while rescuing Dean from Hell. Castiel never mentioned anything about this… but I like to think that there’s a pretty dramatic story there that he has never told.
(edit: anyone who likes science-y headcanon about Castiel’s wings, also feel free to check out my Supernatural fics Flight, sequel to Forgotten; or the wing chapter in A Room Of One’s Own. I think I went way overboard figuring out how angel flight could really work…)
