So in the last few years, we've had a mass shooting at a synagogue in Pittsburgh, a mass shooting at a synagogue in Poway, California, and a rabbi and congregation held hostage in Colleyville, Texas. In my state, we've had bomb threats at synagogues and Jewish community centers. The rates of antisemitic hate crimes have skyrocketed.
Let's talk about Colleyville, shall we? The gunman held a rabbi and a congregation hostage because he believed Jews controlled the world and the banks. He was trying to get the rabbi to orchestrate the release of a suspected Al Queda operative, Siddiqui. He believed that a random rabbi, unaffiliated with the US government or its military, could magically release a suspected terrorist from Fort Worth.
This is a common belief. You can argue that Malik Akram, the gunman, was crazy, but three people feeding him these beliefs were not.
Harry Potter Legacy presents goblins, a very clear Jewish stand-in, as ruling wizard banks and actively trying to destroy wizard culture. This game presents goblins as stealing and cursing wizard children, just like Jews have been accused (and subsequently murdered) for stealing and killing Christian babies.
That might be harmless to you, but it's not harmless to us. It's getting us killed.
You can claim that we don't understand antisemitism, but we do. I've been attacked for wearing a yarmulke and no longer feel safe wearing it outside of synagogue. We know that these physical attacks are the result of propaganda like this. This game is spreading hatred against us, and it will get us killed.
