like imagine being a middle or upper class person blogging about farming as some pastoral stressfree escapism meanwhile actual agricultural workers and farmers both domestically and outside the usa have skyrocketing rates of anxiety, depression, and suicide, not to mention physical repreccussions of their backbreaking work, not to mention being underpaid or unpaid, not to mention working 10-15 hour days in blazing heat, or pouring rain, or snow, not to mention ice/abusive bosses/the entire ag industry fucking with undocumented agricultural workers, not to mention the massive collapse of small farms going under while megacorps gobble up more land and more resources and turn the local watersheds toxic and poison the air, not to mention the myriad of other horrifying shit happening to agricultural workers and farmers on a daily basis, especially workers and farmers of color. but like whatever hashtag farmcore is so wholesome and pure and calming.

…in addition to all the racial components of & legacies tied to this, plus the general weirdness of pastoral fantasy as a reduplication of white supremacist westward expansion propaganda nonsense— imagining the land as being yours for the use & taking without any consideration for the genocide and displacement and enslavement/sharecropping that “cleared” that land + make that fantasy possible— even before all of the above comes into play for people who actually have to treat agriculture as a business and livelihood vs. as marie antoinette style dress-up playtime!
