DEAR RESEARCHERS OF TUMBLR
You know what’s awesome? Research. You know what’s not awesome? Not being able to get access to research because it’s stuck behind a paywall and you don’t belong to an institution/your institution doesn’t subscribe to that particular journal.
FEAR NOT.
Here is a list of free, open access materials on a variety of subjects. Feel free to add if you like!
GO FORTH AND LEARN SHIT, MY FRIENDS.
Directory of Open Access Journals- A compendium of over 9000 journals from 133 countries, multilingual and multidisciplinary.
Directory of Open Access Books- Like the above, but for ebooks. Also multidisciplinary.
Ubiquity Press- Journals covering archaeology, comics scholarship, museum studies, psychology, history, international development, and more. Also publishes open access ebooks on a wide variety of subjects.
Europeana- Digital library about the history and culture of Europe.
Digital Public Library of America- American history, culture, economics, SO MUCH AMERICA.
Internet Archive- In addition to books, they have music and videos, too. Free! And legal! They also have the Wayback Machine, which lets you see webpages as they looked at a particular time.
College and Research Libraries- Library science and information studies. Because that’s what I do.
Library of Congress Digital Collections- American history and culture, historic newspapers, sound recordings, photographs, and a ton of other neat stuff.
LSE Digital Library- London history, women’s history.
Wiley Open Access- Science things! Neurology, medicine, chemistry, ecology, engineering, food science, biology, psychology, veterinary medicine.
SpringerOpen- Mainly STEM journals, looooong list.
Elsevier Open Access- Elsevier’s kind of the devil but you might as well take advantage of this. Mainly STEM, also a linguistics journal and a medical journal in Spanish.
i feel like we as a digital society have forgotten the important rules of the internet
Don't feed the trolls
Never give out personal information
Anonymity is the best defense
Don't click suspicious links
Don't click popups and ads
Just because it's written doesn't mean it's true
You are responsible for your own experience
There is porn of everything, act accordingly
“Crazy Dion” Diamond at one of his sit-ins as a teenager in Arlington, VA. June 10, 1960
via reddit
All of those people around him are demons
hey guys! here’s some fun things i learned from this article about Dion Diamond:
he did these sit-ins by himself. like idk about you, but i always thought of sit-ins as organized by groups, what kind of bravery does it take, man
he didn’t tell anyone about it, like he was no glory-seeker about this. his parents didn’t even know until reporters started calling them up like “hey, did you know your son is in jail?
when someone called the cops he’d skedaddle out the back door although he was sent to prison multiple times
the last time he got arrested was in Baton Rouge, and the cops were so sick of him that they told inmates they’d put in a good word for anyone who gave Diamond a hard time. (the inmates didn’t take the bait.)
he’s still alive!
hark, a hero of our times!
That is unbelievable courage!
Why is the guy in the last photo wearing a swastika???
Girl he’s there to enforce Jim crow laws with physical violence Why Do You Think

Look, if you're having a bad day, here's a 6,000 year old pig-shaped pottery pot.
My day's been fine can I still have the pig pot?

truly the most american thing is Big Drink. more than late stage capitalism, more than an unparalleled cultural focus on individualism, more than 9/11 jokes
what binds all americans together culturally is Big Drink
and you might be saying "is this fat shaming" or "but mayor bloomberg outlawed Big Drink in nyc" or "gays are so annoying about their iced coffee" or some other dumb comment but no open your minds, Big Drink isn't just sugary or caffeinated beverages
every day i see one of you hydration bitches (affectionate) on the train with a water bottle so big a toddler could drown in it. that too is Big Drink. we literally invented a bigger beer can (tall boy) in wisconsin in the 60s in the service of Big Drink
anyway i never feel more american then when i have Big Drink in my hands
thinking about this horrific story alongside that of Kelaia Turner, a black child who attempted suicide at 12 yrs old after being relentlessly tormented by her racist classmates and teachers. after surviving the attempt, she was stalked and harassed by her bullies who took pictures of her whilst she was in a coma at the hospital, and now that she is conscious she is completely immobile, unable to speak, and requires constant care. white people are raising demon children and the world should burn several times over for these two little girls.
lord take all of my pain and sufferig and give it to elon musk

Quietly losing my mind over the fact that Elon Musk has straight up orchestrated a coup of our executive branch and like....I don't even know what, if any, system we have in place to fix this. Like... He's just taken control of the money and locked out the actual appointed officials. What the fuck.
Nazis are taking over my government, and like, not even just the Nazis we fucking elected! And I'm...making hamburgers? Because somebody has to make dinner? I just feel completely unhinged.
I think that's how random civillians generally feel in these situations. Someone's gotta make dinner.
If you're wondering, there is plenty to be done about it, and plenty being done about it already, even if it's not happening instantly in a way you can perceive.
Yes. Let me break it down for you.
Reblogging because this is an excellent article that both tells you about some of what's being done and breaks it down in a way that will help you understand and think about future action. Please read!
I haven’t slept in three days.
I’ve been working around the clock to back up over a petabyte of research data and records and articles from the National Library of Medicine before it gets attacked by that elongated dipstick and his gestapo squad. Trying to get copies of every federal research program’s data before it gets destroyed in the crossfire. I hope to God that it won’t, but I have no confidence that it will be safe. Lots of copies keep stuff safe.
Census Bureau data that breaks down the schedules of historical census records? Gone. NIH research into anything containing the word “diversity”? At risk of deletion. I am working so hard to make sure that some glimmer of what we know is preserved before something truly terrible happens to this knowledge.
Is there any way for others to help?
That's a hell of a lot of information to save...
Following the LOCKSS ethos, you should see if you can contribute to the Archive Team’s distributed computing download of every federal database.

Seems worth noting that D1.1 is the same virus genotype that was detected in a teenager in Canada in late 2024 (the source of the infection is still unknown), whose condition at one point was severe enough to require emergency life support.
Researchers are comparing the genetic features of the B.C. patient's avian flu strain with that of a Louisiana patient who died last week.
"This child needed a lot of support, basically the maximum amount of respiratory support that we're able to provide in a modern ICU," Goldfarb said.
Just, you know. FYI.
EDIT: Also the patient in Louisiana USA, who later died from their infection.
Read 2024 and thought "BUT THAT WAS SO LONG AGO!" Literally been 2025 for less than 2 months 😑

As we see a barrage of evil executive orders come in, they are not immediately enforceable and will takes months or years to implement.
That’s still not great, but don’t let these pile up to the point of hopelessness. Take a breath, and look community leaders who will fight it every step of the way.
Reminder that when Trump was in office before a LOT of his orders got overturned or held up in lower courts for long enough that they became irrelevant. It also does not mean they WILL be enforced. Stand with your community where you can. The fight is not over. Do not obey in advance.
Last sentence above is the most important. Tyranny requires people to shut up and fall in line. Do not obey in advance.
These men just stole the personal information of everyone in America AND control the Treasury. Link to article.

Spread their names!
Engineers between 19 and 24, most linked to Musk’s companies, are playing a key role as he seizes control of federal infrastructure.
elon is really mad about this so it would be a shame if people kept spreading the names around
