Anne Bonny was a notorious Irish pirate in the Carribean. She married Captain 'Calico Jack' Rackham and became a member of his crew alongside another well known female pirate, Mary Read. . When Rackham and his crew were targeted by privateers hunting down pirates, it was Bonny and Read who fought off the attack as the men were too drunk to resist. Bonny's last words to Rackham were said to be "Had you fought like a man, you need not have been hang'd like a dog." At their trial Bonny and Read were both given a stay of execution because they were pregnant - known as 'pleading their bellies'. Read died in prison but Bonny disappeared. . There are many theories on what happened to her, but it is said that with the intervention of her father, she was released and moved to Charles Town, South Carolina, where she married a respectable local, had a large family with ten children and lived into her 80s. Others say she returned to piracy.... . #AGeneralHistoryofthePyrates #AnneBonny #MaryRead #Kinsale #CountyCork #Pirate #JackRackham #BlackSails #ClaraPaget #Revenge #Nassau #IrishAmerican #18thCentury #GoldenAgeOfPirates #BeMorePirate #HistoryFacts #illustration #joysticksnsliders #CharacterDesign #PotionPictures #CharacterAnimation #LoveHistory #Instahistory #HistoryGeek #FunFact #HistoryNerd #HistoryLesson #CharlesTown #SouthCarolina (at Nassau, New Providence)
