The Braun TP-1 combination portable transistor radio (the top part) and 45rpm record player (the bottom part), Germany, 1959.

As you can see, there is a short U-shaped cable connecting the record player output to the transistor radio input.

The record player cartridge & needle were upside-down, using a linear tracking system that played the bottom side of the record. The mechanism could be protected by sliding a shutter over it, which retracted it inside the case.

The two units could be separated from their metal carrier frame so you could use the radio on its own. (photo credit: MOMA design collection)
