In #Peru the monkey is seen as a trickster, a prankster and a thief. I met this cappuccino monkey on the #IncaTrail when I did it in 2010. He was kept as a pet by one of the women a rest stop, about halfway to #MacchuPicchu. He was tied up around his waste, attached to a rope that she kept of hold of. He was there to entertain the tourists and also seemed like a good little buddy to have around. He wasn’t large, or small. He didn’t seem particularly intelligent or stupid for a monkey, not that I would know as I haven’t had much experience with monkeys. He just really seemed to enjoy soda. That was his deal, he wanted #soda. He would grab at the different bottles of soda we had on us. We gave it him, he first grabbed a coke, he knew the bright red bottle and opened the cap and took a few sips that were left in the bottle. I was really impressed by him being able to open it on his own. I’m easily impressed apparently. Then he threw it at the person that had given him the bottle. I had given it to him. His aim wasn’t that great. He missed. I was with nine other people, we offered him some other bottles. He focused more on the brightly colored ones, the orange, the red, the bright colored liquids inside, green, orange, blue ignoring the water completely. He would grab at them because they were sweet, shiny and thats what he wanted, something sweet. I laughed at the time, entertained by him. I think he liked me. He got on my shoulder, I held his leash, fed him some fruit. We were all entertained by the whole thing. I couldn’t help but think, "That stupid monkey trying to grab at all that sweet soda" The women who owned him, or at least had his leash made us stop giving him soda, she said in Spanish it would make him sick. It wasn’t good for him, he didn’t know that though. We did. What a dumb monkey, grabbing at all that stuff that would make him sick. If we would have let him, he probably would have drank every single one of those soda’s. He might have died from it. Dumb monkey. Before I left, a Coke looked good. So I bought another one Prints available $100 signed limited print of 12 at 8x10 not including frame. #pod #travel #ianbaileyphotography (at Inca trail to Machu Picchu)
