The only reason I was able to read as voraciously as I did growing up was because of mass market paperbacks.
Special hardcover editions are nice or paperbacks with deckle edges and sprayed sides, but the mass market paperback is the pillar of society.
i think the key difference between george lucas’s star wars and disney’s star wars is that lucas is a man with an ideology. someone with a point of view, and all that entails. which comes with ideas of revolution, anti-imperialism, challenging the status quo, cultural appropriation and racist stereotypes. complex and contradictory ideas because that’s how artists are: complex and complicated people. disney is not. disney is a corporation. a corporation can’t have ideology, because ideology defeats the purpose of profit. and when the only thing you do is to turn on the movie manufacturing machine before you sit down and plan what ideas are you trying to convey to the audience, then your results are going to be washed out corporate garbage. and because when you’re a giant corporation who only cares about selling to the widest audience possible, you can’t take sides. you can’t decide on an idea. because you want to sell your product to people who are on the entire political spectrum. which results in movies without ideology, without purpose, without soul.
I have been looking for this post for years after I came across it and it’s finally here and I need to reblog this because it is absolutely and entirely accurate.
#as I always say: lucas was making a samurai film and a ww2 flying ace film and a western film and adding laser swords#because he fundamentally LIKED samurai films and dambusters films and westerns and 40’s adventure serials#but disney are making a ‘star wars film’ and adding nothing because it already had laser swords and they have nothing else to say#xerox of a xerox baybeeeee (via harrietvane)

i must say, i am a huge fan of when a book is in the middle of a very exciting plot containing many interesting problems when out of nowhere for a few pages it's like, "hey by the way, real quick, here's a detailed explanation of the city's water filtration system! i'm telling you this for a reason and you should worry about it. anyway! haha okay back to the plot" and you just get to be Scared for a while
And even if you, specifically, were to say to me, "But no! I am fascinated by water treatment systems and would in fact appreciate the information," I would strongly suspect you were something of an outlier.
nobody has done this better since the Princess Bride
imagine you have a movie with oscar isaac and john boyega and people fixate on adam driver instead. this actually happened

totally forgot to post joestar augurelt here, whoops
your twenties are not "late" to start hrt. that is a normal time to start hrt. your thirties are also a normal time to start hrt. your seventies are pretty late to start hrt, but not too late. like, statistically, that's at the end of the curve. but if you are not dead, it is not too late for hrt.
I am asking you to read this really, really carefully:
I said, "it is not too late." Of course it is not too late. "Too late" is not a concept that applies here.
I also said, "it is not late." It is normal to start hrt in your twenties or thirties. Most trans people do not transition as teenagers. Some do! It is important that anyone who wants to should have access to hrt in their teens. I firmly believe this. I also firmly believe that if everyone had access to hrt at twelve, some people still would transition at thirty or fifty or seventy.
Most people who transition do not do it in their teens. You are not starting late. You are not behind the curve. You are statistically average. It's literally normal.
I know a woman who started to have doubts in her 60s, and has only begun transitioning now in her mid-70s. It is obvious and beautiful how much she enjoys dressing femme, growing out her hair, and using feminine address (my language is gendered). Her wife isn't wholly on-board, and her endocrinologist is hesistant because she already has hormone imbalance issues, but she is transitioning to the utmost of her ability. And it's making her happier. You too can be happier.
