Badly explained movies!
A historical fantasy, with a magic system that while grounded, isn’t very well explained. It uses modern slang and covert references to help the viewer to relate to a setting that, while inaccurate, is still quaint and chock full of references to real historical events. The fantastical creatures are visually interesting but conceptually derivative, but still aid in a very vibrant and full setting. It centres around a classic romantic plot with a grizzled, survival worn man and a sheltered but rebellious girl living durring a theoretical end-of-the-world scenario. Originally the girl’s overprotective father hates her love interest, but eventually is won over by his intelligence and ability to survive anything, which is proved to him when they work together and save each-others lives. Save each other from what, you say? Tar. Oh, also, they’re cavemen. It’s the Croods. The movie is The Croods.
