tfw new names pop up on Ao3 churning out tens of thousands of words a week
hey so. let's not do the witch hunt thing, shall we?
how many of us have waited until a fic was fully written before we started posting. how many of us have stayed up past our bedtime scribbling and scribbling when the muse seized us. how many of us have dived scrooge mcduck-style into a new fandom obsession where we could think about nothing else and HAD to write about it.
let's not chase away potential new fans and authors with accusations of ai. this fandom is over 30 years old, half of that being off the air, and the fact that we're still active and attracting new viewers is nothing short of miraculous to me.
i hate ai as much as anyone. probably more than most, actually. if ai has zero haters it's because i am dead etc. but if we start accusing new and/or productive writers of using ai we run the very real risk of killing their creative spirit and driving them away from the fandom, which ultimately hurts everyone.
the bottom line is that encouraging genuine human creativity is the best way to get people to STOP using ai and START using their own minds. and you don't do that by accusing people of slop. that drives the real sloppers deeper into secrecy and makes it more likely that they will never disclose their use of ai; and it drives the real creatives away, because nothing hurts quite like pouring your entire heart and soul into something and having someone accuse you of using ai.
