Finished rewatching Merlin
Iām scared to browse Merlin tag on Tumblr and have to deal with tsunami of Merthur posts... On one hand I believe we can all ship what we want and itās all good by me, on other hand it feels to me like such a betrayal to ship Merlin and Arthur. I see a huge difference between shipping as in: āI like to think of them together/I wish they were togetherā andĀ āthey are gay for eachother in the show, itās clearly in subtextā. I approve of first while second one makes whole fandom look like sexcrazed lunatics.Ā
The story was about sooooo much more than romance. It was about friendship and pure loyalty. I tried to pay attention and the show nicely differentates between friendship and romance. I think itās rare nowadays with all queerbaiting going on in media and it should be celebrated as a form of respect to us, that we are not getting that often lately. Instead we insist on adding narrative to a beautiful wholesome story, as if the story isnāt good enough if main characters donāt lust for eachother... The singular queerbaity exceptions would be final episode between Merlin and Arthur (but considering their relationship till now is presented in really respectful (platonic) way and they made sure to paint Arthur as fully commited and in love with Gwen with some effort those baity scenes could still be taken as āI guess if I were dying I would also want someone to hug me no matter who it wasā, but it was presented in a way that crossed line a bit) and some scenes between Percival and Gawain (especially in last season).Ā
Itās obviously just my personal opinion, but Supernatural had more subtext between BROTHERS than there was between Merlin and Arthur. I feel a bit disheartened that such a beatiful story is deemed unworthy by fans if there is no sexuality involved. I can fully see how shipping couples in Supernatural adds to the value of the show, but Supernatural doesnāt really have such a clear, ethereal and deep message that sets foundation for itās whole run, while Merlin did.Ā
Iām sure Iāll be accused by some of internalised homophobia or something like this, because of saying that 99% of scenes between Merlin and Arthur are presented as strictly platonic (sometimes painfully so), but this is my opinion. You have your interpretation and thatās ok, you have full right to yours too. Iām very passionate about the topic of shipping characters in Merlin, so I wanted to explain my viewpoint to those who would be interested.Ā

SUPERNATURAL NEWS OF THE DAY: Toxic Brazil Fans Attack!
So get this (š), there's this award show in Brazil called SĆ©ries Brasil. It does a variety of awards, but it mainly has to do with TV shows. Their account is @SeriesBrasil on Twitter. Now Supernatural just so happened to have multiple nominations and wins, including Misha Collins winning Best Actor for his portrayal on Castiel. That is a great accomplishment and I'm so proud of him. But then we have another award...
The award show decided to have an award called Worst Character. Considering this is a real and popular award show in Brazil (with 1M follows on Twitter), this shouldn't even be an award in the first place. Award shows are suppose to be about celebrating the good, not belittling the bad. Anyways, the results came in and they are SHOCKING:
Dean Winchester won in a SICKENING landslide. Now mind you, this is a REAL award show, not just a silly award show made up by a fan. Which means that
Jensen Ackles will be sent this award.
That is extremely messed up that these so called fans would take part in such a cruel thing. Now I'm not gonna say Dean Winchester is a perfect character who did nothing wrong. He is flawed and has made some questionable choices at times, but Dean also sacrificed his own wellbeing time and time again to save the world. He has inspired many people to keep on fighting even during the darkest of times. On top of that, Jensen Ackles just finished working on the show after 15 years. Not to mention he cares a lot about Dean and considers Dean his best friend. This is such a HUGE slap in the face for all the work Jensen put into Supernatural and it's even worse that a lot of the same people who voted for him claim to be fans of the show. If you actively HATE on Sam, Dean, Cas, or their actors, you are NOT a real fan of the show. It's one thing to disagree with certain things the characters/actors do, it's another thing to hate on them. I am so disgusted by this behavior and this award should have never been a thing in the first place.
I'm personally asking everyone who reads this to reblog this because this is such a messed up thing to do and Jensen deserves better than that, and I hope more fans can become aware of this situation.
My idea is that we should trend the hashtag #WhyILoveDean and #WhyILoveJensen and talk about why we love Dean/Jensen and how they have impacted our lives on Twitter to show that the Brazilian "fans" do NOT represent the SPN fandom. If you don't mind me saying though. We really shouldn't use Dean's name in tags. Time and time again we are making money for Network that we should be fighting against. You want to make a tag with Dean's name trending. That's thousands of posts, likes, comments that each profit C*. I suggest thinking of some alternative. #WhyILoveTheMeatMan š¤£š¤£ kidding, but seriously, let's think of a tag that won't bring up Dean's name.

15.01 || Back and to the Future
Whether Dean meant "our" as his and Cas' or including Sam doesn't matter as much as the fact that Belphegor 100% thought he meant himself and Cas alone. His question was based on Cas' reaction and then Dean included himself, so it's the only way to see it in his... well... eyes...
i just rewatched 1.14 nightmare, the episode where sam is parallelled with max - the first of the other gifted children we see, who was brutally abused by his father and uncle his entire life. by the end of the episode, sam is saying that even though he and max were clearly linked, sam is the lucky one, because he and dean had john and not maxās dad. āwell, it could have gone a whole nother way after mom. a little more tequila, a little less demon hunting, then we wouldāve had maxās childhood.ā
dean doesnāt say, ādad? he never wouldve hurt usā. he doesnt say ādad was nothing like maxās dadā. he doesnt try to distance john from the comparison or try to tell sam off for implying that maybe a john that was just a little more drunk wouldve been hitting his sons. he doesnāt say anything, actually, just does this
and them sam continues on to say, āall things considered, we turned out okayā¦thanks to him.ā dean STILL says nothing here, face pretty blank. he looks back at maxās house over his shoulder, and then back at sam, to say āall thongs considered,ā before he gets into the car and the WHOLE time his face is justā¦.sort of stony. and theres a tiny pause where hes clearly thinking about something in the middle shot here before he looks back at sam:
and im just. it seems uncharacteristic to me that dean has nothing to say about sam saying their dad wouldve hit them if he was just a little farther gone, OR about sam finally saying that john was a decent dad to them (which. he wasnt, but thats beside the point). theres no anger response or attempts to separate john from maxās dad despite the fact that sam is saying, he was one shot away from it, one level of breakdown away from it, we wouldve been bruises and broken bones like max. and there isnt any i told you so, no āexactly, sammy, i told you, dad was always good to usā moment of victory or satsifaction from dean. just a blank silence, a sniff, a shrug, and the conversation is done.
there are moments in the series where the way dean trails off about john can be read as implying violence, and moments about john being prone to alcohol as a coping tool, and i justā¦..the way dean says āall things consideredā is just a bland agreement with sam. he doesnt even say, āyeah, we were lucky we had dad, huhā or anything like it. he just looks at that house and theres a MOMENT where he pauses before he looks back at his little brother and says yeah, we sure did turn out alright, this conversation is over. and i cant help but overanlyze the intentional steady emotionlessness of deanās face, his silence about the comparison, the way he looks over his shoulder at the house where maxās abuse happened just after sam says āthanks to himāā¦ā¦we know that sam and dean werent treated the same way by john, and werent subject to the same exact sorts of abuse and i cant help but think of that in this scene
okay okay but. literally the next scene is sam talking to dean again about how he and max are similar, specifically about their abilities and how he was able to exhibit the same telekinetic powers under duress. he admits that hes scared that he could turn into max, not jist in the way of abilities but in being violent, the sort of monster that has to be put down or people will be killed. he asks dean āarent you worried that i could turn into max?ā to which dean says no, heās not, because sam has an advantage that max didnt have.
and mirroring the conversation from the last scene, sam assumes that the advantage dean is talking about is john - that john wasnāt maxās dad, right, thatās what sam has, but john isnāt thereā and unlike the last scene, dean speaks this time, to clarify
when sam says in the scene before this that they turned out alright thanks to john, dean looks away, and i cant help but think in light of THIS conversation immediatelyļæ¼ following that heās thinking, well, not thanks to dad, maybe. because max didnt want to punish just his father and uncle for their abuse, but his step-mother for her inaction. max didnt have an ally, a protector, someone to look out for him, to shield him, to take the blows for him. and THAT made a difference. if weāre comparing john to maxās father (and uncle), the passive guilty by inaction step mother is the only other character in the family, but that wasnt samās expeeience, because dean WAS the protector, was the active shield
thats the difference, ultimately, when we read the first scene as dean swallowing down the fact that john was more like maxās dad than he would ever let sam know. dean saying that nothing bad is gonna happen to sam while heās around isnt just talking about the future, not when we were just talking about their childhoods. the reason that sam isnt violent and isnt max and dean says he isnt afraid OF sam becoming max isnt because of john, like sam says in both scenes, but because of dean and the way that he was the buffer between john and sam. the abuse they endured was different, and sam doesnt know the extent of that; dean wouldnt want him to know, protecting sam from both physical harm and the burden of knowing. āthanks to him,ā sam said, thinking of their father. and dean looked away, took a breath, pushed the trauma down, and then turned back to his little brother (protecting him still) and said alright, okay. he wont put that burden on sam, but in this next scene he does say hey, dad isnt here but youve got me, and that makes a difference. that IS the difference
*cough* and they thought Sam would be the main character when even in s1 Deanās emotional complexity was unmatched *cough*
If there is one reason to believe finale is not real. This is it. How could it be heaven for Dean to have John living next to him. Not to mention the problematic of John and Mary living in heaven together when they were hating eachothers before cupid did his mojo on them.

We can't even change stupid rating of a tv show and we want to change the world. Feels like a bad joke to me. What's the point in hoping for a change when you're not willing to do bare minimum. People constantly call themselves "oppressed" and blame "not oppressed" people for not fighting for them, but the opressed themselves don't even move a finger to fight for themselves, so comfortable in playing victims... [ 1. Huge generalisation, 2. Apologies for aggressive tune I'm highly emotional about this topic, but mean no offence 3. I realise giving low rating won't provide rights to us, it's a symbol 4. Phew]

Having said that, caRrY oN is still the lowest rated ep of spn on imdb ever; if we made a campaign to keep it that way we probably could but we already did that - people not only spontaneously decided to give it a 1/10 rating (valid) but also were encouraged to do it and decided they are going to (also valid).Ā
Sadly, if we keep doing this, if we even somehow manage to get this episode to be rated 1/10, it is not going to change what they did, what was done and how hurt we all are. Like, this is the worst part. We can rate, write comments, tweet and scream and... We canāt change the fact what they did in the finale. Like, this is heartbreaking, I know, I am heartbroken right now. And we canāt do anything to make sure this wonāt happen in the future with other shows. This is fucked up.

Like, yeah this is cute and we should definitely have our fun but holy fucking hell, there is a line? That we seem to be constantly crossing these days? And that literally proves everything everyone has ever said about us? And fuck everyone who thinks weāre crazy but also I am very tired of being called crazy and rabid and stupid. And hey!
