We all deserved better! | Alternative Supernatural finale {AU 15x20}

(Hi, so I was coming back from my trip and daydreaming about byler, bc I'm obsessed with them, and thought about how the tower scene could have been so much better, and desperately needed to write it. I never wrote any fanfic before and english is not my first language, so I hope it's not too bad. Hope you like it!)

Will stops for a break at the tower, partially to catch his breath but mostly because he still can't believe this happened. That everyone now knows his deepest secret, and most importantly... that they all still love him! He never thought that would be possible.

Of course they don't know the whole truth, that he's been in love with Mike since kindergarten. Or that this memory of Mike is what made him discover he has powers. But anyway, that's not important now, it's not like Mike would ever love him back, so now it's time for him to move on and accept that.

"Hey, are you okay?" Will's thoughts are interrupted by a voice he would recognize even in his sleep. Mike is now standing next to him, with a frown between his brows.

"Yeah, just catching my breath. Gosh, this tower is actually difficult to climb." Will says while cleaning a little bit of sweat from his forehead.

"Yeah, tell me about it. Here, take this." Mike scoffs and gives him a bottle of water.

"Thanks." Will accepts and gives Mike a little smile. How good it is to see Mike worry about him again, totally different from that Mike in California, who barely looked him in the eyes. Will hopes they never go back to being like that again.

"Hey, Will? Uhm I just wanted to say that was really brave of you, to tell us about your fear" Will stare Mike, a little wide-eyed. He didn't think Mike would talk about this with him, he can feel his breath stop a little. "And I just wanted to apologize, from when I yelled at you saying that 'it's no my fault you don't like girls'. I was a jerk to you that time. You were my friend before Eleven, I shouldn't have pushed you aside, or said what I said."

Will can't believe Mike still remembers he said that. Will, of course, never forgot about it.

What's funny is that it IS EXACTLY your fault Mike, it's all because of you. That happened so long ago, and his words still don't get out of Will's head. But to know that Mike biked in the rain just to apologize to him, and now to know that Mike himself didn't forget about this either... hearing this is healing.

"It's okay Mike, really. You didn't know I was like this back them."

"That's no excuse. I never should have said that, I was so stupid. I'm sorry, Will"

"You're apologized, Mike. It's fine."

"It's not fine though, I can't imagine what must have been like to you, to carry this secret for so long all by yourself."

Will can't even begin to describe how lonely he has felt all his life. To be different than everyone else. To feel nobody can know this part of you or else they won't love you. It's a burden way too heavy for a child to carry.

Mike looks away and pauses for a second, before saying: "... and to love this boy for so long thinking he doesn't love you back, that is torture."

Will can't breath now. Climbing all those stairs is nothing compared to this. His heart is racing. His eyes are wide. He can't breath. How can Mike do this to him so easily? How is this possible, to a single person make him feel like he will pass out only with words?

Mike now looks back at Will. 'Shit, he must have seeing me freaking out'

"Uhm anyway, just know nothing has changed between us, okay? I still like you very much"

The only thought going on inside Will's mind is 'Holy fucking shit Mike, shut up. How can you do this to me?' and he can't stop thinking about Mike's tender eyes, the kindness in them that's always there when Mike is talking to him. Mike's little smile, that Will wishes desperately he could kiss. Mike's curls falling on his face. 'Gosh, he looks pretty under the moonlight'

Will curses himself because this shouldn't be happening, he came to terms that Mike doesn't love him back. He has to get over him.

"I'm really glad we can still be friends." Will says, trying to convince himself that this is what he truly wants.

"...yeah, friends." Mike says and looks away at the distance again. Will might be going crazy because he swears he hears a tone of disappointment in Mike's voice.

A second in silence passes and a million thoughts go through Will's head, that are interrupted by Mike, who looks back at him and says:

"Uh, Will? That boy you liked... was that me?"

Before Will can say anything or think about anything, they are interrupted by Steve coming up the stairs with some weapons.
