Axis (but Dead)

Lila glared at the evidence in front of her. She quickly wet the papers she had in her hands and threw it in the trash.

‘Dammit! If only I had never heard her say the name 'Al Ghul’.’

Lila gripped the sink in the girl’s bathroom as hard as she could. She glared at her reflection in the mirror as if it could turn back time. It wasn’t her fault that she heard Marinette talking on the phone to someone and calling herself an Al Ghul. Lila had searched up the Al Ghul’s and learned they were tied to a dangerous lineage of killers in the past. There wasn’t much about them; it was almost as if they were ninjas. The only thing she knew about Marinette was that had some type of Asian heritage. Sure, if she asked around she’d probably know, but she didn’t really care.

She felt like she only closed her eyes for a second, as she sighed. When she opened them, Marinette was standing behind her, smiling.

'Speak of the devil.’

“I hope you enjoyed your little game, Layla.” Marinette smiled.

“What are you talking about?” Lila questioned, peeved by hearing that name.

“You figured it out by now, right?” Mari continued, cornering Lila like she had done to her long ago, “You were never a threat to me. You do realize that don’t you? Gabriel Agreste has always said yes to me. You have to manipulate people to get your way. I could have had you murdered at any moment, but I chose for you to live. I wanted to see what a toy could do when the thought they were in charge. Step out of line again and an accident will happen.”

“I’ll tell everyone!” Lila hissed.

Marinette stepped back and giggled, “You-You think they’ll believe you!”

Lila smirked, “They already do.”

“It wasn’t hard to find out about you Layla Agetha Vincourt Rossario.”

Lila froze and took a step back. She felt the color drain from her face.

“When I show everyone the mess you made at your last five schools. I mean, Audrey Bourgeois wants me as part of her staff. She may not love Chloe, but a national security risk? She’ll make sure everyone knows.” Mari ranted off, “Think of all the problems you would cause for Gabriel: stocks would plummet and all the recalls. Poor Adrien will be drowning in photoshoots to make up for the publicity. Not to mention, them blacklisting you. To a thief, a liar, and a murder in the eyes of the boy you want.”

“I didn’t-” Lila began.

“The evidence stands for itself.” Marinette shrugged, “Maybe it was an accident that you poisoned the Minister’s nephew, but all the people they talked to. All those people who heard you pull the same shit that you do to me? How you cried about being bullied and how his girlfriend was hurting you for just being friends? Do you really think the Minister of Italy won’t catch the first flight over to arrest you when he hears you’re doing the same thing to a poor baker’s daughter. Imagine how much news it will make when people learn about you and your doing the exact same thing in Paris! It’ll make international news! How a murder was trying to gain the attention of a famous model and lied her way into is father’s graces.”

Marinette smiled, “All it would take is one little phone call to the Minister of Italy for him to know where you are now. I don’t even have to be the one to make the call. Your poor mother, losing you and her only source of income. Your father is in America with his new wife and new family. I hear his new daughter is everything he ever hoped for.”

“Shut up!” growled Lila.

“She’s a straight A student, popular, dating a musician that her father approves of.”

“Shut up!” Lila repeated.

“You’re just jealous of your little sister because she’s everything you’re not. Too think, she’s only one year younger than you? I heard she took after her mother, but you took after your father. He cheated on your mother didn’t he? He lost his job because he was employed by your mother’s family. Then, he married into his mistress’s family. Of course, none of it is his money; it belongs to his wife and daughter. If he doesn’t behave, he doesn’t get an allowance. Smart of her to make him sign a pre-nup. He cheats and he’s back to being broke.” Marinette laughed, “Your mother would hate you if she knew you were just like him. She has sole custody. Your father didn’t even want you.”

“Shut up!” Lila screamed, before charging after Marinette.

Marinette yawned and easily flipped her onto her back.

“You’re nothing, but a disappointment.” Mari hissed, “Weren’t those his last words to you?”

Lila laid there and sobbed.

“You truly are disappointing; I expected more of my so-called bully.” Mari sighed, “Make sure you behave from now on and if you decide to make me your bully again, well, Mommy will find out just how much of a Daddy’s girl you really are. I’d be careful with my next move if I were you.”

Marinette walked out of the school and smiled. I was great to see a familiar face

“So?” Damian questioned, as Marinette towards him.

Marinette smirked, “Mother always did say innocence was my best look.”

“Think the liar will listen?” Damian asked.

“Eh.” Mari shrugged, “I’ll call you if she doesn’t. Just forward everything to her mother and let me know. I don’t want to miss the fall out.”

“What about Gabriel?” he asked.

Marinette smiled, “He has two years to change. If not, I’ll burn his company down or buy it out; I haven’t decided yet.”

“What about Junior?” her brother questioned.

“I’ve already convinced him to give up modeling and Agreste Senior agreed, but that bitch doesn’t know that.” his sister commented.

“Sometimes I wonder if I should be convinced how much you think like Mother, but look like Father.” Damian stated.

“A female isn’t needed on the throne.” she shrugged.

“That was Grandfather’s mistake.” Damian growled, “Mother was just as deadly as him. What about coming to the manor?”

“Not yet. Father is still adjusting to you.” Marinette declared, “He may know of me, but that doesn’t mean he views me as his. I don’t want his legacy and that’s all he cares about. He thinks I’m 'safe’ so we’ll keep it that way.”

Damian smirked, “Gotham would likely be destroyed in an instant if we both took it on.”

“You know how to reach me if there is ever anything you need.” Mari commented.

“I gave Todd your number for emergency use only.” Damian declared, “If I can’t call, he will.”

“You better be dead if he calls me.” Marinette frowned, glaring at her brother.

'Just as dramatic as Mother.’

Damian noticed someone walking towards them and changed his demeanor.

“Thank you.” he spoke and began to walk away.

Marinette watched, confused, at least until she heard some footsteps.

“Who was that, Marinette?” Adrien questioned.

Marinette blushed at his sudden appearance by her side.

“T-Tourist.” she smiled, “Um, lover. NO! I-I mean louve. He wanted to know about the louve! Where, um-”

Adrien chuckled and listened patiently, as she explained the stranger’s presence.

“Think I can walk you home?” he asked, taking her hand.

Damian watched as Marinette turned red and looked away from the blonde.

'Adrien Agreste, hmmmm. I’ll still never get over how scary like Mother she is. She always knows what she wants and how to get it. I doubt she’ll slip anything into his drink, though.’

“Welcome to the Al-Ghul family, Agreste.” Damian smirked.

Marinette hugged her hoodie closer as she walked out of school. She had been so busy the past three weeks and Damian wasn’t fairing any better. All they had time for was a quick ‘Good morning’ or 'Sweet dreams’ these days. She couldn’t blame him being so far away from her. Their schedules were always so small, but she missed him; the eight hour difference was taking it’s toll. It’s why she had dressed up that day. She had made an oversized black hoodie with the Robin logo on it. It was the best thing she could think of to comfort her. The only thing better would be-

“Habibiti.” a voice called.

Marinette froze.

'I’m hearing things. Right?’

Marinette looked up and saw her boyfriend at the bottom of the steps.

'Damian!’

Marinette rushed over, as fast as she could, and hugged him.

'It’s him! I’m not dreaming! It’s Damian; my Damian! This is his cologne and shampoo. It really is him.’

“What-What are you doing here?” Marinette asked.

Damian opened his mouth but pulled back, taking in what his tiny girlfriend was wearing.

'She’s wearing my colors; my logo! The hoodie appears to my size. Is this the reason those morons parade their girlfriends around in their jackets?’

The hoodie sagged a bit around her waist and a bit over her back shorts. She was wearing black knee high socks and dark green boots with bright red laces. He was quick to realize, he wouldn’t mind if he brought Marinette to his school dressed like this, showing off she was his and his alone.

'Angel, are you trying to kill me?’

“Someone on your mind?” Damian questioned, pulling her back into his arms.

Mari simply blushed.

Suddenly, Marinette was yanked out of her boyfriend’s arms. She was surprised to see Alya, Adrien, and Nino standing between them.

“Hey!” Nino shouted, “Who do you think you are?”

“Back off ya creep!” Alya sneered.

“Guys!” Marinette squeaked, pushing through them and back into Damian’s arms, “This is my boyfriend!”

The trio was silent.

“He’s from Gotham, hence the outfit.” Mari continued to explain, “We’ve both been busy. We haven’t had time to video call. It’s been nothing but quick texts for about two weeks. I wore it because I was starting to feel lonely and I missed him.”

Damian kissed the top of Marinette’s head, “I missed you, too. How about we take a walk? Maybe we can find this Andre you keep telling me about and we can talk about dinner, tomorrow?”

“I’d like that.” Marinette smiled, as they began to walk away from the school.

“Did you know?” they shouted at each other.

“No!” they all answered.

They turned and looked in the direction that Marinette left. She was smiling and obviously very happy with her surprise visitor.

Alya sighed, “We can questioned her tomorrow.”

“You mean you’ll question her tomorrow.” Nino replied.

“Exactly.” she smiled.

“Do we have to?” Adrien asked, “She looks really happy.”

They looked again to see her brightly smiling at the guy. He looked at her like she was the only thing worth paying attention to.

“Maybe, only a little bit.” Alya answered, “We at least need to know some basic stuff about him. Like, maybe how long have they been dating or I don’t know, his name!”

The boys looked at each other in shock. The realization sunk in that they never asked for his name. They had no clue Marinette had left with.

“Oh, my God!” Nino cried.

“Yeah.” Alya sighed, as the boys continued to panic, “That’s what I thought.”

“Did you see which way they went?” Adrien shouted, “Do you think we can catch them with my driver?”

“Marinette is gonna get kidnapped and we can’t even defend ourselves!” Nino whined.

Adrien shook Nino, “Why did you let me, let her leave?”

Alya pulled out her phone and texted Marinette.

A:Boys are idiots. Give me something to keep the pair of idiots from panicking.

M:Panicking about what?

A:Realized they don’t know who you left with and can’t see you. Thinking you’ll be kidnapped and shit.

M:I’m with my bf. I already called my parents and told them where we were going. I’m assuming I’ll be interrogated tomorrow.

A: Yep. Before it was just me but I think the boys just got on board.

M: Damn

“You guys!” Alya shouted.

“What?” Adrien asked, “We are forming a plan and-”

Alya waved her phone at them.

“I texted her and she told her parents where they were going.” she smiled, “She said she’ll see us tomorrow.”

Adrien and Nino relaxed.

“Oh.” they mumbled.

Marinette stood awkwardly as she was confessed to, yet again. Before she could say anything, she saw someone rushing towards them in the distance.

“Um, can you take three giant steps backwards?” Marinette asked.

Confused, the person stepped back. In the blink of an eye, they found a dagger tip at their throat.

‘What the fuck?’

They looked up to see Marinette with her arms around some guy’s waist.

“Who is this guy?” he questioned, out loud.

“This is my very overprotective boyfriend.” Marinette smiled.

The guy paled and took another step backwards.

“Got it.” he announced and rushed away.

Marinette sighed as she let go of Damian.

“Habibiti, I could have handled him.” he declared.

Marinette leaned up and kissed him.

“I don’t want to call your dad and tell him your in jail for maiming.” she replied.

Damian rolled his eyes, putting the blade away, “He can afford to bail me out.”

“Like all the other times?” she questioned with a smile, “You’re cute when you’re jealous.”

“People should stop asking you out.” Damian huffed.

“I have an idea.” Marinette announced, “You have to wait until tomorrow. I don’t think you have anything to worry about after that.”

Marinette walked into school with a shirt that read: Property of Damian Wayne. Damian blushed at the familiar writing style. He had seen it on cheerleaders at forced functions. She had chosen a dark blue shirt and yellow colors. It was reminiscent of when he went to Gotham Academy.

“Is this helpful, Dami?” Marinette asked.

The people around them stopped what they were doing to stare at the pair. Damian said nothing, but grabbed her hand and pulled her further into the school. Marinette smiled at his approval. Damian tried not to flush red at the warning sign on his girlfriend. It was a giant keep away sign.

'Why hadn’t I thought about this sooner?’

Lila couldn’t believe what she was seeing. Marinette was wearing a shirt that flaunted Damian Wayne as hers. There was no way that was going to happen; not while she was around.

“Damian, ” Lila voiced in fake concern, “did you lose a bet?”

Damian merely glared at her. Marinette smiled from her place on his arm.

“It’s okay, Habibi.” Mari spoke, “It must be strange for her to see people like this; so happy.”

Damian smirked and looked down at her. Lila couldn’t believe that not only had Marinette talked back to her, but Damian Wayne had smiled at the goody-goody’s snarky comment.

“You’re one to talk.” Lila lashed out, “Everyone hates you! Who wouldn’t hate a bully?”

“You mean the pathetic rumors you spread around?” Marinette asked, “Only that one class believes you. The rest of the school laughs when your back is turned.”

Lila heard people giggle behind them. It wasn’t just one person, either. It was multiple people.

“Marinette is my property.” Damian declared, “The shirt doesn’t lie. She’s my girlfriend and has been for two years.”

Marinette smiled, “Damian got a little possessive when someone tried to ask me out again, yesterday.”

“That is twenty people, who have asked you out in the past five months.” Damian hissed.

“People?” Lila questioned.

Marinette blushed, “I’ve had girls confess to me, too. I don’t mind wearing the shirt. Hopefully, after today, I won’t have to stop Damian from attempting murder.”

Damian and Marinette walked passed Lila. Lila moved to the sidelines as other people started to speak up.

“Damn, Damian made sure to scoop up the 'Queen of the School’.”

“The Queen?”

“Do you expect anything else from a Wayne?”
