Yall think Carl ever felt guilty for helping Grace with the whole Carl hypothesis, Box in a Box moment? Because sure, someone would have figured out how to breed astrophage eventually, but maybe, had Carl not intervened, (had he been a worse, less engaged friend) Grace wouldnt have been the one to figure it out.

Maybe he wouldnt have become the leading Astrophage guy. Maybe Carl wouldnt have had to send his friend to his doom kicking and screaming against Carl's own hands had Carl just acted dumber and more apathetic than he was. But of course he never would have done that. Because he was neither of those things and had no idea what the future held. So now, I wonder if he just sits with that.

Would that be fucked up or what?

I think she did this for herself. She was hoping he would volunteer, trying to give herself a chance for a clean conscience at least on this matter. She would never admit it, but she wished so hard he would make things easiest for her. That he would give her a chance to say a proper goodbye. Because, after all, she cares about him (at least on the film, I didn't read the book yet)

listen the key difference between Colt and Ryland is that Colt is very very smart and he just does stupid things sometimes. Ryland is a lame-o idiot (/aff) who can do very smart things to the surprise of most notably himself. That’s it.

in other words: Colt has a good grasp of his technical abilities and personal limits, and just makes stupid decisions sometimes, while Ryland can become the leading expert in the WORLD of an alien that is EATING THE SUN and still believe he’s under qualified and clearly there has to be a better option.
