First Contact

Yes, for Grace it was objectively more traumatic and forceful than simply drifting apart and far more permanent but the fact that he had these old relationships on Earth who will never know Rocky, who will never know this post-Mary Grace, and whom he will not see again is not as wholly tragic as it seems. He will never see those friends again or talk to them, he won’t know the versions of them that grew in the years he spent in space. But that doesn’t diminish the time he DID have with them and sometimes, the only thing we can do— even if we’re not 16 light years away— is wish those old friends the best and cherish the memories made with them.
