the polaroid project is a project i started a little over two years ago (fall 2013); you could say its a homage to music - the work done, the process, the people behind it - and a means to further expand my artistic endeavors. a blog i did an interview for not too long ago wrote: "far from the choreographed lighting and screaming fans, artists are photographed pre or post show, usually when they are more relaxed and can be themselves. grassi said βi want people to fall in love with these individuals, with their essence, and not because they are popular amongst our society. i want people to look past the pretty faces and stylized looks, and appreciate them for what they are and not necessarily who they are.β" i think that sums up pretty well what the concept of my project is.
i love music and it plays a vital role in my life; everything is connected to it, even though i dont make music myself, so you could argue this project is my own way of showing my appreciation, respect, and thanks to this industry, while also documenting a time and place in history. i want people to love music and love the art of making music, love these individuals who devote their lives to creating music.. but while doing so, i want people to remember that these individuals are not just public figures, they are people, just like you and me, which is a simple concept and we all know that, but we often forget. thats why if you go to the polaroid project website, you just see all the polaroids - no names, no nothing, unless you go to the "featured" page. my dad used to complain about that, saying that he has no way of knowing who is who, who does what, but thats exactly the point - when you look at the whole of it, you just see photographs of people. you might be able to recognize a few if you follow a certain band closely, but generally speaking, you just see people, and thats the purpose of the project - before seeing the musician, the public figure, you see a person.
now, it could sound like im trying to strip down these people of their titles, and in a way i am, but my point is.. respect, love, admire them for the beautiful things they create, for their contribution to society, for the way they make you feel, but also for the person they are.
