I've officially seen both Iron Lung and Project Hail Mary and so I have a decent understanding of the framework upon which the bloodymary ship is built, and I think my fav way of going about it is having it be separate universes/realities and Simon just gets his ass teleported into the universe of phm and both Simon and Grace recognize each other as the celebrity who plays them(but IL doesn't exist in PHM and vice versa) bc that's hilarious.

Okay so I have looked into this a bit, and from what I can tell a submarine could hypothetically survive in the vacuum of space. Submarines are built to withstand a LOT more pressure than spacecraft. From both the internal pressure pushing outwards, and more importantly the weight of the entire goddamned ocean pushing down on them. Spacecraft generally don't need to worry about this since they only need to maintain internal pressure. So yeah your average submarine could (hypothetically, and I need to stress that this is a hypothetical. literally no one has tested this before for obvious reasons) comfortably maintain 1 atmosphere of pressure or less in a vacuum.

honestly that way of getting the two to meet has grown on me, and I can allow myself to believe that the clearly very anomalous blood compensated for the poor state of the sub for long enough to get Simon to not die before getting rescued kjdfkjdf
