I keep getting that stupid fucking AI ad that asks me if Iâd like to âread fanfiction designed for meâ
BITCH I WRITE THE FANFICTION DESIGNED FOR ME
I have over 200 works. Iâve written for at least 10 different fandoms. I have spent literal YEARS perfecting my craft
DO NOT SPEAK THE ANCIENT MAGIC TO ME!! I might not have been there when it was written, but at least I cast the ancient magic with my own fucking hands
So, I'm back thinking about Alta again. And what I really want to talk about is post series character development, because there is so much potential there. I'll stick with Zuko specifically for this, but I have some ideas for the rest of the gaang that I might share later.
The thing about Zuko is that by the end of the series, he still has a ton of recovery to do. You don't recover from a lifetime of abuse and imperialist brainwashing in a few months. I'm really not counting the time he spent on his ship with Iroh because, let's face it, Iroh really wasn't trying to undo the whole imperialist brainwashing at that point. I have a lot of opinions about that as well, but I'm getting off topic.
What I really want, is post-series Zuko learning how to be nice. At the end of the show, he's made tremendous strides with caring for others, and he's definitely starting to get being kind, but he's still not nice. He still gets shouty at people who don't deserve it, which isn't a huge deal with friends who know you and know that you're just very dramatic, but could be a very big deal if you're some poor advisor telling your teenage ruler something he really doesn't want to hear. And I know his temper significantly improved and there's no real insinuation that he's rude to servants in canon, but I still don't think he really knows how to be nice.
You very sincerely care for someone and do everything you can to help them and still make them feel terrible or scared. Being very powerful and very shouty aren't a good mix. It's important to be polite and to encourage people and speak in a way that makes the people around you comfortable. I mean you shouldn't sacrifice your own comfort for everyone else's, but it's important to be nice.
I want Zuko learning to do that. How to thank someone sincerely, why remembering people's interests is wonderful, how to not treat servants like they're part of the background, which let's be real, he did during most of part one of season 3. It takes effort
The No âI Love Youâ Animatic In case Tumblr canât play the video, hereâs the Vimeo Link
Link to the AO3 collection So, when @fictionissocialinquiry laid out this challenge, it was mainly for writers; but she included some extra prompts therein, and one was a line from Hozierâs âShrikeâ.
I couldnât whisper when you needed it shouted This led me to listen to âShrikeâ on repeat while I feverishly started doodling the thumbnails for the animatic I got in my head (so I hope that some of that emotion from Hozierâs amazing song comes through in the final board, âcause I listened to it. A. Lot.). While I think itâs a bit easier for drawings to express âI love youâ without any words needed at all. I wanted to try and approach the task by thinking of ways one can confess that they love someone through acts of service and tenderness versus super obvious displays of love, I guess. It came out with a sort of courtly love-ish vibe that I really ended up liking. (Though I suppose reciprocation makes it not courtly love ANYWHOâŠ)
Iâm in an Ambassador Katara/Fire Lord Zuko state of mind! I just love any love story with them in these roles. There are so many different ways to play with the set up of them as Ambassador and Fire Lord. In this one, I kind of picture that they havenât gotten together yet (this is divergent from whatever I did in the Reunion animatics; this is itâs own thing). Perhaps they are on the precipice of realizing they want to be together⊠I donât know; itâs open to interpretation. XD but what I hope I portrayed clearly is how one can show that they love another. u.u

Please no reposting. (And while I donât mind screenshots being posted so long as you credit me with a link to either the tumblr post or the Vimeo link, please donât post like a bunch of frames, and there should be no money being made off of it; this is a purely not-for-profit sort of thing. These were for fun, and I enjoy people liking them one so much. However, the screenshot rule ONLY applies to the animatics, but it really is an honor system here, guys, please be judicious with how many you take.)

Something quick I did a while ago! Katara from my college AU that only exists on my head, for now.đ
I do plan on drawing some little scenarios, but that's it. I'm bad with drawing full on comics and stuffđ€§
La sensaciĂłn de q falta alguien đ„Čđ„Čđ„Čđ„Č...no???
how did we get a 90s high school adaptation of emma before northanger abbey. the high school drama is RIGHT there
catherine is the stereotypical awkward new girl who transfers to her older brother's school in the middle of the year because of the allens family scholarship or smth. her brother is a senior who is also on the football team. he's dating isabella, but she's only with him to ensure herself a spot on the cheerleading squad. catherine is isabella's stereotypical less-pretty-best-friend (who's beautiful after isabella makes her take off her glasses in a makeover montage). john thorpe is also on the football team and he starts noticing catherine after said makeover montage. henry and eleanor are the principal's children and he's either a band kid or on the debate team (combination of gifted and super unhinged). captain tilney is their older brother in college who really should not be allowed near high schoolers and ends up homewrecking isabella and james's relationship during spring break.
EXACTLY
@hold-fast-to-hope okay this is the funniest thing ever. catherine being a normal very sensible high schooler whoâs really into twilight slowly but surely convincing herself that her principal (also her crushâs dad) is a vampire. he sponsors a blood drive at her school and sheâs like GASP!!! i would kill to see this movie
slow burn where they're already having sex. such a beautiful combination i cannot put it into words
goalie hugs for your big brother!

ROGUE ONE (2016)
Prince Zuko's drawing of the peculiar pendant suddenly ends up completed with a portrait of its ownerđł The hand totally went drawing on its own volition, why else Ńould that happenđ
Hi! You're one of my favourite Austen posters here, so I thought you might know the answer to this question (or be able to point me in the direction of someone who knows).
Basically, do you know if university education was expected from the rich gentleman? If yes, why? I know most of them went to boarding schools (such as Eton and the rest), but. Why did Mr. Darcy go to Cambridge? He's rich, he's the heir! He doesn't need an occupation to support himself!
(I'm also confused why Colin Firth was dressed like a school master in the flashback to Cambridge in the BBC version, but eh, I'm fine with staying confused.)
Have a lovely day!
Thank you for saying I'm one of your favorite Austen posters! I'm flattered đ
My knowledge in this area is limited, but my understanding is that gentleman would not necessarily be expected to attend university, strictly speaking, but it was very well regarded. Either university or the "Grand Tour." Austen's own rich gentleman heir brother Edward did both!
As to why? To be educated. Education was seen as inherently valuable, not just a tool to prepare for employment. (I very much agree with this viewpoint on education, fwiw.) The cynical way to look at this was that education was a status symbol, and it probably was to some extent or certain people. But texts from the time period talk about education as something that is just Good and Right. I'm sure this mindset is why gentlemen like Darcy did it.
Now, beyond this noble reason for going to university, it did have some practical benefits even for men not preparing for employment. It could help them learn how to run their estate, prepare to sit in the House of Lords, make connections with other rich people, that sort of thing. And being able to hold intelligent, cultured conversations with others was very important for gentry men and women, hence the "accomplished woman" list in P&P, and you can't really do this unless you're educated to some degree somewhere.
I'm sure other Austen blogs will chime in if I've got this wrong or am missing something important!
Thanks very much for the ask! You have a lovely day too đ
Great response. Given the invitation to add, I want to expand on a few things, make one small correction, answer something not addressed, and offer a link that is very thorough about eighteenth-century university education in England (and which applies to the early nineteenth century, also). If we go with the 1813 setting for the novel instead of the 1790s setting*, Darcy is attending Cambridge around 1802-4.
1. The need to be able to hold "intelligent, cultured conversations" (see above) was indeed crucial. The article below strongly emphasizes its importance and calls it "polish" or "social graces." The sociologist Pierre Bourdieu called it "cultural capital." Yes, one could get the necessary polish (cultural capital) from private tutors, but there's something to be said for repeatedly interacting with and watching a number of people in a group setting to develop it. It allowed one to be the "right kind of person" in social networks.
2. Social networks - connections or "who you know" - are also crucial for success. While these are mentioned above, I want to emphasize them. Sure, Darcy is set for life, given his vast wealth, but that could ebb if he doesn't manage it well or if adverse political circumstances appear. This is a period of agricultural innovation. One would not find out about those at university; one would meet at university people who would stay up on those things for life, and staying in touch with them would be helpful in improving one's landownings. Also, later in life there's every chance that Darcy could be elected a Member of Parliament, and connections formed at university could help when he's there. BTW, Darcy is gentry, not aristocracy, though at the very top of the gentry. He'd sit in the House of Commons. His grandfather (mother's father), uncle, and eventually cousin (Colonel Fitzwilliam's older brother), being earls, were and are nobility, so they'd sit in Lords. Being in Parliament or knowing people in it allowed one to influence legislation, especially legislation that affected land, landed estates, agricultural trade policy, etc. Finally, schoolmates have sisters, and having polish and connections means that one could also attend the "right" kind of social events to find a mate.
3. Not mentioned at all in the response is that everyone - professors and students - wore daily what we would now consider graduation regalia. (One of the pictures in the article below shows this.) Thus, the scene in the 1995 series in which Darcy catches Wickham with a young woman has Darcy dressed accurately. It shows that he's actually attending tutorials; Wickham of course is not.
* Austen wrote Pride and Prejudice in 1796-97. Scholars think it was originally set between 1793 and 1795. She tried and failed to get it published, and then she let it sit for 15 years. In the early 1810s she hauled it out, revised it, and published it. (See the P&P article on Wikipedia for more.) In the 1790s version Darcy would have attended Cambridge in the early 1780s.
One cannot be both gentleman and scholar. A brief look at university life during the 18th century.
Re social connections: the narrator points out that Mr. Collins didn't make those at university and it's definitely presented as a bad thing. He was incredibly lucky to land a living from Lady Catherine because networking was so key
(the Bingleys aren't wrong to focus on that either)
Apparently a lot of people get dialogue punctuation wrong despite having an otherwise solid grasp of grammar, possibly because theyâre used to writing essays rather than prose. I donât wanna be the asshole who complains about writing errors and then doesnât offer to help, so here are the basics summarized as simply as I could manage on my phone (âdialogue tagâ just refers to phrases like âhe said,â âshe whispered,â âthey askedâ):
âFor most dialogue, use a comma after the sentence and donât capitalize the next word after the quotation mark,â she said.
âBut what if youâre using a question mark rather than a period?â they asked.
âWhen using a dialogue tag, you never capitalize the word after the quotation mark unless itâs a proper noun!â she snapped.
âWhen breaking up a single sentence with a dialogue tag,â she said, âuse commas.â
âThis is a single sentence,â she said. âNow, this is a second stand-alone sentence, so thereâs no comma after âshe said.ââ
âThereâs no dialogue tag after this sentence, so end it with a period rather than a comma.â She frowned, suddenly concerned that the entire post was as unasked for as it was sanctimonious.
And!
âIf youâre breaking dialogue up with an action tagââshe waves her hands back and forthââthe dashes go outside the quotation marks.â
guess what im rereading

Rewatching atla episodes for Reasons and I just realised that Zuko found Appa the night after he found out he was missing. The gaang have been desperately searching for, what? A few weeks? And Zuko sees a poster saying Appa is missing and just squares tf up and finds him immediately. What a fucking madman.Â
#this is why they put him in charge of the Fire Nation #there is nothing Zuko cannot find up to and including his countryâs long lost sense of morality
i mean he had already managed to actually find the avatar, whom literally the entire world (except katara lmao) had believed was dead and gone forever. im pretty sure if zuko decides he is going to Find Something the universe rearranges itself to put it in his path.
This comes in handy when he has kids.
Dude literally found:
đ„The avatar
đ„Appa
đ„His lost uncle via a sweaty sandal
đ„A secret civilization thought to be long gone
đ„The last 2 dragons existing
đ„Katara and Sokkaâs Father plus Suki
đ„Kataraâs motherâs murderer
đ„His honor
đ„His entire nationâs honor
I mean the dude was wild. He was born to find stuff. I donât really know if he found his mother but likeâŠthat too. You kinda get why the Gaang saw Zuko and thought, hey what if we use him to find stuff?
He absolutely found his mother. And I cannot believe I am only just now noticing this whole concept.
Also while he took years to find the avatar, the avatar was in ice basically that whole time. Once the avatar had been freed from the ice Zuko found him IMMEDIATELY
