The process of switching to Linux is extremely trans-coded--to the point that I would argue any trans person who is still on Windows or Mac should transition to Linux ASAP
Windows and Mac are the operating systems of the cisgender. You bear with their ads, spyware, closed systems--systematically telling you this is the way things are, this is the way it's always been... but deep down you know life can be better than this! You don't have to be trapped in a binary.
Linux then--is the spectrum! So many flavors of how to Linux! Mint, Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, Arch, Zorrin, More, all valid and all customizable! If one OS doesn't fit, try another one! Experiment or even mod it yourself.
The choice is yours, the choice has always been yours!
I did it the other way around but yes poppetsisters is ofc 100% correct

Being a Linux user who doesn't know shit from fuck about computers is wild. I'll see a new update notification for a "Gnome Keyring" which is for "Gnome features (Daemons and tools)" and I just go alrighty give the gnome his demons and tools I guess you're in charge here Linux do what you gotta do to communicate with my CPU so I can keep playing Hellsinker.
I've just realized something. Using microsoft windows and visiting one's parents induces the same emotion
On the Linux Kernel Wikipedia page under (conflicts) the ‘did not agree’ line redirects you to the wiki page for “flipping the bird”
The best Linux distribution is the one you enjoy using.
Incorrect. It's fedora.
I hate when a ticket haunts me. I don't mean to pass the buck, but a ticket was dropped into my lap like two weeks ago by some random person on another team. They just assigned it to me lol. Anywau, I don't have access to the required systems, so I passed it along to the next group and now every couple of days someone messages me asking if I can review the ticket with them.
Like sure, I'll hop on a call with you, but the fact that my name appears anywhere on that ticket is erroneous.
"sure I'll come chat about that ticket full of stuff I can't access"
"I'll totally send you a screenshot of where I already answered that question in the ticket"
" no I didn't include the users zip code I didn't think you'd be hand delivering their DB credentials"
"no I can't help with bitlocker Armageddon... yeah we don't have access...why? idk why your team wanted to be the arbiters of sccm. I definitely can't relate".
How the fuck did you get access to my Teams chat logs?
user somehow exfiltrated them from SharePoint and sent them as a screenshot in a docx file attached to a ticket titled "see pic," no description, 20 requested participants, and one (1) comment that reads "out of office for 3 months) contact Bob who doesn't know about the ticket."

Flatpak
BURN IT
Don't burn it (wrong answer).
I think the hate is largely undeserved. It's a good, competent system that is especially great for casual users, who don't want to have the headache with dependencies and what not.
Sure, there are drawbacks, but I don't think it's fair to hate something just because it doesn't happen to be the silver bullet
in what world is org.prismlauncher.PrismLauncher in any way a good name for an executable? Half the time i need to list my packages just to remember the domain name. And then also needing to use flatpak run is so stupid. And whenever I need to just use a random file in a flatpak, i need to use a whole-ass separate program just to give it access.
Why are you running flatpaks in the terminal? Don't you have an app launcher or something for that?
You just ain't doin it right
And of course you'll have to use a friggin file picker. Plus, it's better if it's always the same one, regardless of what program you use.
I launch everything from the terminal, because why would i have a whole-ass separate program just to launch programs, and also i'm not talking about file pickers, I'm talking about flatseal. Literally anything that isn't a flatpak has an executable name that's like 8 chars max to type. Thats a total of like 5-10 keystokes to open a terminal, launch the program, and then close the terminal.
> why would i have a whole-ass separate program just to launch programs
Because it's more convenient than what you are doing. I'm sure you have enough storage space for rofi. And if you don't, then maybe don't use flatpaks because they're bigger.
And if you really don't want that, for moral reasons or what the fuck ever, then go write a script that takes in the regular program name, checks the desktop files, and launches the program with that name. Maybe write a second script for bash completion while you're at it.
But also it really sounds like you're just not the target audience for a flatpak. If you don't like it, why do you use it? Are you on some atomic distro where it's your only choice? But what fucking atomic distro doesn't come with an app launcher?
You're just using them in a way they weren't intended to be used.
I actually learned a phrase about that today. "Bean soup? But I'm allergic to beans"
have you considered flatpaks arent for the super technical type of user, but for the type that does everything in a gui? the way i see it its more just a better snap that doesn't need root. appimage is better if you have the technical knowledge, or just the raw executable
Even if you are quite technical, i still find flatpaks useful for apps that i want to be in a container for security reasons, or if im using a particularly niche distro that doesn't have whatever program i want in a maintained package ( if there's a package for it in the first place ). E.g. if i wanted to install steam on Alpine, flatpak would be what i use.
i *am* annoyed by flatpaks when they need to work with files outside of their container, but they don't have the perms. prism launcher wants specific java versions for specific minecraft versions, and i didn't bother with figuring out the intended solution for that before just installing the provided version in my distro.
however, i do use a lot of flatpaks because well, they "just work". stuff that doesn't work on flatpak usually has a non flatpak distribution system, which solves the rest of the issues i have with it.
flatseal works for that but that is a downside to the whole sandboxing thing, it doesn't interact well with the rest of your system. appimage is the ideal choice there if available
terminal flatpak launcher person in this thread. there's like 800 solutions to this, the main one is alias but also you know "flatpak list | grep com.mypackage" (I want this flatpak lol)

I can't tell if the boomer working security at my job is always watching me because I'm trans or because he thinks using a tty is hacking.
