Archaeologists in Peru have unearthed the bodily remains of three children and five adults.
Why was this Peruvian mummy clutching a cross? The latest discoveries in the Maranga archaeological complex include the remains of three children and five adult skeletons, in what experts believe was an early colonial-era cemetery.

A light house in Sakhalin. Russia
In the 1990s, it was decided to make the Aniva Lighthouse autonomous by re-equipping it to work from a nuclear power source. The radioisotope generators were removed in 2006. The lighthouse has been abandoned ever since.

[video description: various shots of young buffalo frolicking around and playing with each other in a large green field. there are lots of clouds and a rainbow in the sky. the audio consists of mostly the wind blowing on the camera mic, but birds can be heard chirping and the buffalo can be heard snorting. /end video description]
i learned that a breed of wool dogs existed on the pacific northwest coast. Indigenous people would keep the dogs isolated on small islands to prevent inter breeding with hunting dogs. The wool dogs were cared for and feed a rich diet of seafood to produce strong yarn to make blankets from (x)
It’s Coast Salish nations and Nuu-chah-nulth nation, though the article speaks of Coastal nations as a whole regarding this practice. There are multiple nations within the Coast Salish umbrella, to be clear. I know the op post wants to keep things brief but it irritates me when we reduce multiple indigenous nations to a generic single ‘indigenous people’.
“Indigenous oral traditions attest to a robust weaving industry in some coastal nations—such as the Cowichan on British Columbia’s Vancouver Island and the Squamish on British Columbia’s southern coast—that endured for thousands of years.”
“Elders from the Nuu-chah-nulth communities on Vancouver Island’s west coast and Coast Salish elders on the island’s east coast and the province’s mainland have described the care of these unique canines. They’ve told stories of how women weavers groomed and tended the dogs; never fenced or restrained them, but kept them isolated on small islands so that they would not breed with the hunting dogs; and fed them special diets. For anyone who breeds dogs today, that kind of effort speaks to the importance of the animals.”
Also this is a way better photo. Check out these ladies and their wool dog!!!!
ID begin.
A physically degraded portrait photograph of two light skinned indigenous women and their dog. They are seated, with one woman sitting lower and leaning against her companion. She is propped up on her hand, looking into the camera. A small white dog lays on her own lap looking at the camera, her arm resting across the dog’s shoulders.
The higher woman gazes to the right, resting her hand over the lower woman’s shoulder while her other hand is on her lap, held by the other woman’s hand.
They are both wearing floor length european style dresses, and their hair is loose and elbow length.
The background is a painted drop curtain of a old Victorian styled house. The ground has a patterned blanket haphazardly laid over a hardwood floor.
ID End.
