the thing abt being in dc during the 250 is that actually i am staying indoors and not going anywhere
the sheer temptation to get a tat of the alvalaithen is growing on me
very rarely i will remember that i broke my spine bc i never did any pt i just decided aw whateverrr and got back into horses and lifting with zero issues so it’s never been A Thing until i try to do a pull up and my back says hey so remember that :D and im like dang maybe that did actually happen
During a high speed car chase pursuit, the FOX 11 Los Angeles helicopter had an unexpected moment when they spotted a rooster and a chicken casually walking down the sidewalk right in the middle of the pursuit.
The fact that they were walking 1-3mph
His joy and whimsy at seeing this
His acknowledgement of it not being as interesting as the chase
His little "huh" cuz you know they told him to focus

'Piranesi' again, albatross in The Lower Halls. Damn, I'd give everything to find the House
Just remembered I had this screenshot on my phone somewhere and had to post it here because it really speaks to me
had the sudden realization that I have no idea how Brula’s Veritas works?? there’s a few unexplained tan’ji around*, but I think I generally grasp the concepts. Veritas, however, kind of breaks my brain when considering the larger scale of how the Medium and how tan’ji function in the series. It can’t be mind-reading, because of how distinctly banned that is for the Wardens**, but what is objective truth? what’s the deal with memory/experience/belief vs. “objective” truth? if the speaker truly 100% believes something happened, and it didn’t, then I assume Veritas will reveal that, but that’s kinda unfair, no, since it detects lies? ?? idk I’m ngl I last fully read the books in Nov ’23 so it’s been a hot minute and I’m probably misremembering now so if anyone wishes to clarify/correct me, I will gladly take it (and I am due for a reread).
LOVE the Ro’ha though I’m thinking about it again and that’s just such a cool test.
*the Staff especially fascinates me. What’s the humour, anyway? (spellcheck is trying to get me for that lmao let me be British briefly) if it’s multiverse-based, where’s it pulling from? why can Gabriel do what he does? I love that it is so directly in opposition to like every other tan’ji b/c every tan’ji is based on the experience of sense—but that is another topic (one which I will yap about forever so goodbye!)
**which promptly leads me to another question of how those things are governed, anyway—like yes, the Altari can have their rules, but the Riven don’t gaf as seen w/ Aored, so do they potentially have mind-reading tan’ji, or is that a general rule everywhere? I’m sure there’s a knowledge network across the world. But at what point were these rules instituted, and … how connected were all the Altari?
people were genuinely so much funnier 100 years ago in newspapers. im reading this 1926 railroad mag from milwaukee and it's giving detailed updates on everyone everywhere and some of them are ridiculous. here are some of my favorites
diabolical: I'm reading up about old passenger train sleeper cars & food service for work and all I can think about is Sophia and Theo on the train in The Glass Sentence
like LMAO Bianca's railroad monopoly?? girl I have got to reread those books for the sole purpose of figuring out how railroads operated after the Great Disruption. I miss those kids anyway. but also how did travel develop the same way? did it even? I don't remember atp I feel like Grove just kind of rolled with the most usual method of travel within each Age corresponding to its timeframe whichhh makes sense but privatized railroads...

“It looks so simple, those deceptively plain, impersonal verb forms: “Placetne, magistra?” “Does it please [thee], Mistress?” “Placet.” “It pleases.” But of course, it is not simple, and this is what simple Latin is for. Whereas we use impersonal verb forms like “It’s raining” or “it’s hot” for boring things like the weather (while Germans, more correctly, say “it’s hot to me,”) Latin has a maddening habit of expressing opinions and even feelings with impersonal verbs like placet, “it pleases,” a verb which is always impersonal in form while talking about personal feelings. Peter and Harriet, who have been carrying on an extended conversation about the reconciliation of heart and mind through this entire book, find a Latin word to do the job for them. Magistra is “Mistress” in the sense of Master of Arts, respecting Harriet as a scholar and writer; it is also an honorific for “Lady,” subtly emphasizing her choice and agency in the matter. The -ne at the end of Peter’s question is the sweet part, and the most significant part, and the part that just cannot be translated. Remember that odd Latin word num used to prefix questions when you expect a “no” answer? -ne is its opposite number, a question which confidently expects the answer will be “yes.” That tiny shift from num to -ne sums up a five-year courtship in five letters.”

so sorry but no, fanfics don't count (even if they're novel length). you can define "read" however you'd like -- physcial book, ebook, audiobook, etc. and it's up to you whether you count dnfs!

okay realizing i never posted on tumblr abt this
@thedustyroads-blog (does NAWT use this site but i’m tagging anyway) designed an alvalaithen in cad (due to me relentlessly plaguing him)!so obviously i 3d printed it at school this year. haven’t found a good gold paint yet but ive got a few models lying around so hopefully someday!!
+ a few random ahh pics of dragonfly related paraphernalia. i obviously chose to do a dragonfly when my prof was teaching my hist seminar to do two-needle appliqué this semester—i don’t know why i traced a random dragonfly instead of the alvalaithen. and henna which is also a random dragonfly but the thought was there. and my friend used my alvalaithen print in her art class exhibit yippee!
