Reconstructing identity is a big one. To different degrees, both groups of people are given new identities to reckon with and their old names are taken away. Innies are always being dressed by someone else and the circus cast are given new bodies only Caine can modify. Both sides have no idea where they are or what this strange place is and few of their questions can be answered. They are told exactly what their lives are going to be like from now on and newcomers are reminded that it's better to just accept it. (That way they can even find joy in it)

The people trapped are in some form duplicates of an original person, but the trapped people know they are their own person living a diverged life (granted, one later than the other). Those in power can exert control over their brains, albeit in different ways.

They're human, but their boss doesn't see them as people. They’re stripped of autonomy and infantilized. No sex is allowed (also no swearing).

Being pressured to owe the company respect and compliance VS having a boss who feels entitled to their affection

Pointless office work VS meaningless circus adventures. They're subject to the whims of their boss and that can include torture (different from the everyday misery).

Pointed work place commentary VS an abstract take on the quarter life crisis.

"We need to be here for each other because we're all we've got."

They're all stuck in an unconventional hell (a life that feels stagnant and pointless). But they both cover finding meaning in a stagnant life and choosing to live in spite of their circumstances. No matter how little they've been given there's still value to their lives and relationships. . . . THEY BOTH HAVE AN OFFICE MAZE. HOW DID I NEARLY FORGET THIS.

TADC also subtracts the mystery box part of Severance in favor of being character driven, so an AU could really dive into C&A lore.

For an AU, it's not hard to compare the severance chip to the headset and innies to the digital copies (I think people would find it more agreeable than brain surgery). Lumon/C&A can still sell the idea that mindfiles aren't people and let their outie earn money off their likeness doing a job.

There's no 1:1 with the characters, but Pomni and Zooble feel closest to Helly, with the latter being one who's been regrettably there for longer. Ragatha's early forced optimism is closest to early Mark. Kinger is an Irv who does gain lucidity communicate with his outie (conveniently, both are related to darkness!). Jax is only comparable to Dylan in the sense of being "the funny guy," but otherwise could not fit the same role less. Poor Gangle is left out with no one slightly comparable. That's okay, it's not necessary for an AU. Or do we want Manager Gangle? Caine’s a weird mashup of Kier and Milchick’s whimsy.

Unlike Lumon's staff, Caine does a terrible job at convincing everyone to love him and the company. He tried to make Scratch happy with his job by directly editing his brain, but the file broke and Caine never tried it again.

Actually- it makes more sense for Caine to only be the big boss of the severed floor and just a product of the company. That keeps the real world side of C&A and its founding separate. I'm realizing Abby would be Mike's daughter in this scenario.
