Whatever you think of TADC, and whatever you will think of it after its finale, for God's sake please don't forget how important and radical it is that a series hosted by an independent studio and created by a trans woman has become one of the biggest animated series of the decade, and what an awesome thing that is in the thoroughly shit world climate for trans people atm.

If nothing else, you have to give Gooseworx and the Amazing Digital Circus crew credit because they're all very online people and 100% had to know that making a show whose basic premise is "what if a bunch of people who are all fundamentally a bit exhausting to hang out with were forced to hang out with each other at gunpoint" was a fandom discourse bomb waiting to happen, and they did it anyway.

A weakness of the show being so short, I feel, is that we don’t get to sit with the Psychological Horror of being a human trapped in a digital toyetic body very much, besides Pomni messing with her face in episodes 1 and 3, and Zooble’s therapy session (and in the latter example it’s played much more tragically than as horror). They’re used often for the Comedy half of the Dark Comedy tone the show has but the Darkness is lacking… There’s plenty of fan comics about a character silently Contending with the fact that they don’t have a human body anymore (these are my favorite kind of fancomic..) so it’s obvious from The Context we get that the characters did/are experiencing what happens in that fanart, but we have so so little Scenes of them doing so… we don’t even get any Onscreen Scenes of Zooble swapping their parts around in frustration outside of the teasers! We only see Evidence that they’ve done so… and that’s awesome that the animators had time and motivation to pull that off. BUT LIKE…

And if we had enough time to see every human character express this horror, even very briefly, it would make the contrast with Caine even stronger — Caine would have no such scene, feel no such horror, because he has no such memory of Being in a human body…

I wanted to see like. Ragatha struggle with her ragdoll hands and cheerfully play it off while badly hiding apparent frustration, or poking at her own stuffing with an inscrutable expression… Or Gangle telling Pomni that feeling for her pulse is a good way to calm down and then instinctively feeling for her own and remembering that she doesn’t have one anymore! Or Something!!! Neither Gangle nor Ragatha or anyone else have organs anymore and haven’t had them for years and never will again but nobody acknowledges this….! Please..!!!!!!!!!

I wish they at least showed more of it with the one person who hasn't been there for years #Getting stuck looking like a clown for eternity where your clothing and your giant hat might as well be skin #and your left hand will always be blue and your right always red #and your limbs stretch like a rubber hose cartoon #even as the most human avatar there that MUST cause some dysphoria #does anyone envy Zooble for being able to have five fingers if they want?#sometimes I think about how if they escaped then wearing certain clothes or colors could be traumatizing #like there are gloves that split up your fingers exactly like Ragatha's hands #Maybe Gangle can't stand scarves or the color red #Or Pomni flinches at the feeling of wearing any hat #but like circling back on topic there is SO MUCH that would be terrifying to think “I have to get used to this”#No mouth. Ears and nose smoothed over. Floating hands. No legs. Sliding and hopping around on a stump.#Cotton insides. No insides. No space for a skull behind your face. It's all flat. Flat body parts too.#whatever is going on with that poor worm on a string person. I'm amazed they didn't abstract first.
