PSA TO ANYONE WHO DOESNT EVEN MAKE ART, DISABLE AI DATA COLLECTION ON YOUR BLOG
ART REBLOGGED TO AN ACCOUNT WITH THIS ENABLED WILL ALLOW MIDJOURNEY TO USE THE ORIGINAL POSTERS WORKS WITHOUT THEIR CONSENT
I'm not really a bagginshield shipper much tho I do love the dynamic and all but one thing that really bothers me is when people turn Bilbo into some small shy twink ... like bro... that's a 50 y/o sassy little man (hobbit actually) who isn't scared to speak his mind and has done many admirable things??? like why do you draw/write him to be some skinny big-doe-eyed puppy??? just doesn't sit right with me
I was telling myself I wasn't going to be posting my art anywhere ever again, but you all are so sweet I have to. It will not, however, be just my art. I'll post about my writing too. And all other shit that happens in my head :)) enjoy ;))
Dream of the Endless
I started reading The Sandman over the holiday and I'm obsessed and needed to get this out of my head.
I took some artistic liberties with him but I feel that's fitting of his character since his appearance in the comic is so fluid and ever-changing.

i hate that every time i look for color studies and tips to improve my art and make it more dynamic and interesting all that comes up are rudimentary explanations of the color wheel that explain it to me like im in 1st grade and just now discovering my primary colors
“red and green are opposites 🥰” cool now how do i paint a tree with pinks and blues without it looking like a child’s finger painting or incongruous blobs of rainbow vomit
ok i can’t explain it very well but im looking for tips and techniques for rendering art like
with specifically the highlights and colors being hues that compliment each other, don’t distract from the scene, and make it more interesting/visually appealing
is it too much to ask
gonna drop some sources I have saved on Pinterest! I don't know if these all link back to the original sources so apologies for that
cohesive but still contrasting
This kind of talks about color and composition
This is a bit about landscape specifically
Values & composition
Contrast in composition
Balance in colors & values
This one's more for palette building but I think it's useful and can be applied to the other ones
Cohesion within compositions/lighting
"Chromatic fringe" - I also see people using this with shading, they bring in a transition color that is a different hue than the base color or shadow, it makes it so that less vibrancy is lost and it doesn't get muddy!
This one specifically has a lot of process behind the style of painting you're looking for!
Also one of my favorite artists who makes bright and colorful art like this is Not Sorry Art on TikTok & YouTube, her website is here and it's<3 my fav. She has some videos where you can see her process
With the oranges painting you put as an example, I noticed they painted the lighter values more toward yellow - they also exaggerated the hues of the undertones of the photo, so I'm guessing they either did it in their head or bumped the saturation up to get a closer look! I really love these paintings you shared and I definitely share your desire to paint/draw like that :)
thanks this is super helpful! /gen
If you'd like 2 Print books that I absolutely reccomend to every visual artist regardless of Media, Color and Light and Imaginative Realism by James Gurney are basically religious texts for artists, even the 3-D people because his understanding and explanation of how light and form work is that damn good.
If you're wondering about Mr. Gurney's chops:
James Gurney is the Dinotopia Guy (that link includes his Dinotopia books, prints and online classes too)
oh god I had a really big epiphany about love and personhood but I’m too drunk for words. hold on I’m gonna paint it.
this. this is it.
this belongs in the moma with the preceding text post as its title

After taking a class on King Arthur, I've been thinking more about the story from the cultural side, specifically of the author's in each Arthurian story. The major Arthurian stories were not written by Welsh authors; for ex, Geoffrey of Monmouth, Malory, and Chretien (there are many more but these were the main ones that came to mind). That made me think more about the sorcerer trope in fiction, and what its Arthurian roots looked like.
**disclaimer: I took one class on King Arthur. I definitely don't know every single story in this genre so someone correct me if I'm wrong.**
From what I've read, a sorcerer was only trustworthy when working with a king - if he wasn't, he was a madman in the woods who was untrustworthy and unstable. I think one interesting angle to take from this is how perhaps the non-Welsh writers needed to graft unfamiliar social infrastructures from the Druids onto their own familiar hierarchy of rulership - or even just with their own conceptions of power - in order to feel comfortable incorporating it into their story. Like "ok, this Druidic power looks really cool, but I think it needs to be contained within our own boundaries we've drawn." Like you can see in other basically infinite ways throughout history, there was an idea that if you understood something, you had power over it. And you can see that subtly playing out in BBC Merlin with how Merlin works *through* Arthur. Merlin doesn't go mad (actually you can see that a bit when Merlin is Dragoon and lives in a hut in the woods), but Morgana is def an example of that. Though with her, you could very well say she's a victim of the madwoman/witch stereotype.
Next point -> Another differentiation between Merlin and Morgana is how they lead: either through fear or through love. Thinking about that popular idea that those are the two most significant emotions, I really like how as the show went on, it became less focused on good/evil as the major dichotomy and more on fear/love. For example, it's much more interesting to me if you look at Uther's reign as fearful rather than evil. Fear *can* create evil, but I don't think it's the source in this case. He was afraid of losing Arthur and Morgana. He was also afraid of magic because of who had harmed him with it and the fact that he really didn't understand it. I think the last few episodes with him demonstrated that well. Magic is a tool just like a sword is, but Uther was more familiar with the latter.
Merlin, on the other hand, leads with love, and Arthur is learning from him how to do that. It's Merlin's love for Arthur (whether you want to interpret that platonically or romantically is up to you) and his love of the kingdom that motivates him and gives him more success than Morgana. Trust is obviously a huge theme in this show, like how it takes a tremendous amount of trust to let someone flourish with magic, for example, and wield that power responsibly, just like any other weapon. I think Arthur's learning that all the years of Uther's draconic crackdown on magic users not only fueled his father's distrust in his people, but also his people's awareness that Uther didn't trust them.

Trent crimm is the definition of gay disaster please. He waited outside the building pretending to be cool and got so caught up in his excitement to talk to Ted that he left his keys in the car 🙄
Random Ted Lasso headcanons because…why not:
Roy is an absolutely PHENOMENAL cook
On the other hand, Isaac can’t cook for shit like my guy burns water EXCEPT for breakfast foods. Isaac makes the best pancakes, waffles, French toast, etc.
Ted and Higgins both go to pride every year and wear a “Free Dad Hugs” shirt
When Frozen came out, Phoebe forced Roy to watch it so many times that he could’ve probably quoted it word for word (he took her to see Frozen 2 and ended up running into Trent and his daughter)
Whenever Trent’s daughter plays pretend with him and hands him an imaginary phone, he always comes up with the WILDEST scenarios for their game
One time at team karaoke (which became a pretty regular thing after the Everton F.C. match), Jamie and Colin sang Agony from Into the Woods and Jamie did the choreography (he definitely didn’t learn it because he rewatched the musical so. many. times. because he had a crush on Chris Pine *wink* *wink*)
Ted made the mistake of showing Me Before You at a team movie night one time and the entire team was sobbing by the end
Bumbercatch is the jumpiest mf ever but LOVES horror movies
One of Jamie’s favorite movies is Dead Poets Society and his favorite character was Neil (he was inconsolable when he watched it the first time and Neil died)
Beard knew about Trent’s crush on Ted and teased him about it every time he got flustered around Ted
The only times Roy isn’t the princess when he plays Princess and Dragon with Phoebe is when Jamie plays with her (Roy has SO MANY pictures of Jamie dressed as the princess on his phone and one is his wallpaper)
We all know that Jamie’s bi awakening was Roy and Keeley but Will’s was Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher in the Star Wars movies
Will was raised by a single mom who he loves more than anything (I saw someone else hc this and it makes so much sense)
Bumbercatch LOVES Buzzfeed Unsolved True Crime/BU Supernatural
yeah tbh i have no clue what possessed me to post this 😭
