āLet us put it generally: if a regime is immoral, its citizens are free from all obligations to it.ā ā Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, Gulag Archipelago.
[Pictured: Captain Pia Klemp sitting in a chair beside her controls.
@VivianAngrisani on Twitter wrote on 6/8/2019: āPia Klemp, a German biologist & boat captain faces 20 yrs in prison for rescuing 1,000+ migrants at risk of drowning whilst crossing the Mediterranean. Seeking asylum is a human right. Only 1 in 100 sea captains are female. This woman is a humanitarian, not a criminal. #FreePiaā
@Galactic_Rabbit quote-tweeted on 6/10/2019 and wrote: āThinking about all those videos of people honored in their old age for hiding/protecting Jewish people.ā]
To all the people commenting that sheās an accessory toĀ āillegal immigration,ā note that seeking asylum is a human right. Countries which refuse asylum are in violation of the Geneva Convention. They get away with this and propagandize complacency towards the victims by using bureaucracy to complicate immigration proceedings. During times of genocide, this is tantamount to hearing a would-be murder victim knocking on your door and locking the deadbolt.
People who risk dying getting smuggled across borders do so out of sheer desperation because the situation theyāre leaving is worse. Finally, you are missing the entire point: violation of the law is warranted when the laws violate human rights and criminalize existence. Laws which call immigrants āillegalā are tools of a systemic negligence designed to condemn those who need legal protection the most.
Oh and hereās the petition to #FreePia.

Hi @asrafarel, definitely an interesting question! Prepare yourself for an essay haha (TIL at end)
At first glance I would say the Lamia and the Argonians are definitely not related in a similar way to the senche-raht and alfiq. Khajiit are pretty unique amongst the races in the major variance in their morphology, with some Khajiit āresembling the common house cat, huge bipedal jaguars, [or] being almost indistinguishable from Men or Merā. This is based on the positions of the two moons when a khajiit is born.
There is lore that suggests Argonianās also have some physical differences within their species. Potentially ranging fromĀ āreptilian to almost humanā caused by the Hist sap they ingest as juveniles. The Hist sap also determines an Argonianās gender as they develop or can change it throughout life, though much of this is unconfirmed.Ā
More relevant perhaps is the lore surrounding the different Argonian tribes within Black Marsh, such as āThe Nagas, the toad-like Paatru, and the winged Sarpa.āĀ The Naga are supposedly an āoffshoot of the āSaxhleel [Argonians]ā,Ā a tribe of which are described as having pale, almost translucent scales, though accounts vary on their appearance as fish-like, snake-like or frog-like. In the Elder Scrolls Online, they appear as regular Argonians with pale colouring. InterestinglyĀ an Argonian takes on the physical appearance of the tribe it is born into, regardless of genetic ancestry, though most tribes are defined more by a difference in culture and skills than appearance.
Like Argonianās, Lamia are aĀ āspecies of amphibious beastfolk.āĀ Described as having the torso of a woman and the tail of a snake, in ESO Lamia are almost completely scaled and have very reptilian features, while in Daggerfall they appear entirely human above the waist. Unlike Argonians,Ā they have a primitive culture, are usually hostile, and donāt build dwellings. Despite this they are very intelligent, able to speak Tamrielic, wear jewellery and cast powerful magic. They are exclusively female, and are capable of asexual reproduction, though fables claim they can also interbreed with other mortal races.
Their intelligence and physical traits could mark them as an Argonian tribe or offshoot like the Naga, though even more distant. However, unlike seemingly all Argonian tribes, Lamia have no apparent connection to the Hist - usually a fundamental aspect to being an ArgonianĀ and which all tribes (no matter how physically different) worship. Lamia instead venerateĀ āentities known as the Egg Mother and the Great Egg.āĀ They are also native to places outside of Black Marsh.
Additionally, all Argonians, regardless of tribe seem to be bipedal, and follow the same basic skeletal/muscular structure, with differences more so in colour, or surface features - being more reminiscent of snakes, frogs, or lizards respectively, with the possible exception of the Sarpa.
As such I donāt believe Lamia are part of the Argonian race, more likely I think they are simply similar on a surface level, having adapted to similar or the same environments. I hope this answers your question!
[TIL: While there are some physical differences amongst Argonian tribes reminiscent of the Khajiit variations, the Lamia are more removed than any of them (no Argonians are known to not be bipedal) more importantly they have no connection to the Hist - and so are very unlikely to be any type of Argonian]
Khamira is a true role-model.
Can you please help me. I always try to give advice to everyone who needs it and now I really need your help to save my little guy.

Sorry that itās been nothing but grumbling and signal boosts here for a while. Hereās my whole piece from the Zarkon zine as a small penance.
So cool. Everything Fusspot does is cool anyway.
Keith: You know, I promised Shiro I wouldnāt do anything stupid after I got out of the Garrison.
Keith: [whispering] Sorry, Shiro.
Pidge: If you had to separate your dog from 49 other identical dogs that were all equally excited to see you, how would you determine which dog was yours?
Keith: I would take my 50 dogs home and live like a king.
Okay, this is me.
Then when a character deserves a redemption arc, people want it to be exactly like his. They don't understand different characters get different ways of redemption. Not everyone needs to be like his.
yep, absolutely, i agree 100%
Problem is, the writers INTENTIONALLY framed Lotorās arc with Zukoās in mind. Hereās a little excerpt from an interview the writers did with EW;
MONTGOMERY: I think we knew all along that this was going to be the character that everyone wanted to become the good guy of the Paladins, and we knew that we werenāt going to let that play out. We would happily tease it and take it down that road, but ultimately, the worst side of him was going to be the thing that got the better of him. DOS SANTOS: We kept saying in the room, because we all come from Avatar: The Last Airbender, āWeāre going to get him right to Zuko, and then weāre going to pull it all away.ā MONTGOMERY: And then heās going to go straight Azula.
So, in this case at least, the comparison makes sense because that was the writerās intention, in the most cheap and manipulative way possible. Iām not upset this season ended with Lotor and the Paladins as enemies again. I know the Voltron lore, so I figured weād get back to that eventually. Iām angry because I see so many fans who looked at Lotor and saw themselves- Mixed race fans who had slurs hurled at them, just like Lotor did, and abused fans who knew first hand the kind of suffering he described- and thought that he was for them. That he would show that not all people who go through that end up becoming monsters themselves. Because he said over and over again that HE didnāt want to be like that. Instead, these fans were betrayed in the worst possible way in a heel turn plot twist, and the fact that the writers would do something like that, giving kids like that hope and then tearing it away from them? That absolutely disgusts me.
āļø
And adding more salt to the wound - the head writer for Avatar had planned to write a redemption arc for Azula, too, but the powers that be shifted focus to the movie.
So Azula was written with the intent to be redeemed - whereas Lotor was written with the intent to be melted.
Seriously, wtf, DreamWorks?
This quoted portion of the interview reveals more of the unprofessionalism and cruelty found in Joaquim Dos Santosās and Lauren Montgomeryās management of the whole Voltron Legendary Defender project.
I didnāt set out to make this argument in the commentaries Iāve been writing, but itās a conclusion that becomes clearer the more I rewatch VLD, and this portion of the interview is further evidence of it: The executive producers and writers of Voltron Legendary Defender purposefully engaged in audience manipulation.
They did not write Lotor to be a character. Per their own words here, they wrote him specifically to trick the audience. This explains why Lotor feels so inconsistent throughout the show, why he feels like two completely different characters. They werenāt trying to write him to be a whole, unified character with motivations that directed his actions in the story.
Letās examine something Lauren Montgomery says:
āI think we knew all along that this was going to be the character that everyone wanted to become the good guy of the Paladins,ā¦ā
She acts like the audience arrived at thinking Lotor would be a good guy all on our own and that she, JDS, and the writers had nothing to do with it. But weāre not the ones who named the season four finale āA New Defender.ā Up until that episode, thereās nothing really to suggest that Lotor could undergo a character arc that would make him a good guy. She, JDS, and the writers specifically wrote Lotor in a way to suggest it.
She continues:
āā¦and we knew that we werenāt going to let that play out.ā
In other words, every part of the writing that was done to make it seem like they were writing Lotor to be undergoing a character arc of coming through the abuse he suffered from his parents, of fighting for a better universe while mired in the toxicity of the Galra Empire, that was all a lie. They never had any intention of fulfilling the character arc they were writing for Lotor. They used that character arc to make the audience think they were writing one thing so that they could then trick the audience.
Letās look at what Joaquim Dos Santos says here:
āWe kept saying in the room, because we all come from Avatar: The Last Airbender, āWeāre going to get him right to Zuko, and then weāre going to pull it all away.āā
This tells us that JDS and LM (and I think we could possibly add Tim Hedrick and Josh Hamilton too since JDS says, āin the room,ā aka the writersā room) were actively trying to use peopleās knowledge that they had worked on Avatar the Last Airbender as part of their set up for their manipulating the audience with Lotor. Not only is that them being disrespectful of the VLD audience, thatās them being disrespectful of the AtLA audience too.
Zuko and Azula were two completely different characters, whose respective motivations directed their actions. You cannot use Zukoās character arc to arrive at where Azula is at the end of AtLA. Had there been a fourth season of AtLA, and Azula underwent a redemptive/recovery storyline in it, that arc still would have looked different than Zukoās. I canāt help but to question JDSās and LMās ability to understand character composition.
I think it is useful to have interviews like this so that we can see behind the show. It can help us understand why there are inconsistencies in the writing. For the character of Lotor, those inconsistencies come directly out of Joaquim Dos Santosās and Lauren Montgomeryās desire to use him to manipulate the audience.
People.
Voltron is not about you and your desires.
Just because the scenario doesn't play out as you wish it to be and doesn't show you what you want, it doesn't mean that everything is BS.
There is flaw in voltron, but not those you're making up. It's getting so annoying to have all of you constantly bitch about something you don't understand.
You keep on mixing your headcanons with canon and thinking you know the show better than their own creators.
Stop projecting your desires, just accept the story that is told and try to understand what was created.
Nothing is owned to you.
And if you like the dragon prince and shera then i can understand why you hate voltron.
why is france⦠asking for money to rebuild notre dameā¦. use the money you stole from africa and haiti bitch
they collected 1000 million dollars already. from all around the world. im SO fucking pissed right now, people in haiti is eating MUD thanks to france, they also were part of the last attack to syria and no one collected to rebuild their CITY, they still have colonies in other continents. im so fucking angry
@atrperro
Donāt worry. Most of the money is coming from our own richest Ā«philantropicĀ» industrials whoāre looking to substract it from their tax income rather than using it to better the life of their employees.
Also, youāre quite judgy. I suppose youāre coming from a country whoās never done anything wrong and that youāre very informed about france on top of that?
Notre-Dame is a cultural symbol. Itās 800 years old and itās probably difficult to imagine what it means to most french people (religious or not, itās beyond religion really) from an outside point of view.
Itās collapse is kinda the symbol of our society crumbling. You may not know it but weāre having quite a societal crisis in france. Itās been going on since november and going up in violence. Notre-Dame fall is like a weirdly timed doom shadow.
France is deadly sick. Trust that weāre suffocating and that nobody wants to steal anything from anyone, but we have our own troubles going. Also no one likes the president, so donāt associate us with him or his actions. Thatās exactly why people are rioting here.
yeah, i think the last thing that affected others my country did was in the 19th century, we do not collect colony taxes from 14 countries in 2019, made another country pay for their freedom and bombed syria.
also dont come crying at me about how hard life is in france since november when you have NO idea whats it like to live in a real unstable country.
iāll say it again and iāll say it forever, the lives of third world countries are more important than any white country cultural place.
@atrperro cheap patriotism lol i hate the word patriotism as much as the concept, but if that sounds like it to you what can i do?
Nowhere i said that lives where less important than a cultural building. Donāt put words i didnāt say in my mouth.
Also, HaĆÆti is a bad example. The corrupt government just hold onto the charity money instead of giving it to their people.
I just said we had not intention on stealing anything from anyone there, but there is troubles in france at the moment (sorry itās not a war level problem yet, so i suppose itās not valid from your point of view) and that this event is just like a omen or something of the sort and thatās probably why people are donating. Out of sadness.
I also criticized our rich for giving to diminish their taxes, instead of caring about their employees but i suppose you conveniently avoided that part because you donāt really know the situation here.
Even if our problems arenāt valid to you, we are still struggling. France isnāt a Ā«first rateĀ» country anymore.
We are facing changes. Notre-Dame fall is just the symbol of that. Of course, giving to save people is more important, and iām personnally not even sure we should restore it except for security purposes, but you canāt call out people for being shocked by this and trying to mend it because itās happening in their own country.
@atrperro also i have no fucking idea about what 21st century colony you're talking about. France doesn't have colonies anymore.
What countries are you talking about?
