Ervil Lebaron was a strong advocate for blood atonement and ordered the killings of many people.

A few of the more famous incidents are the murders of his brother Joel, his pregnant teenage daughter Rebecca, the prophet Rulon C. Allred of the Apostolic United Brethren, and the "4 O'Clock Murders."
