A Thousand Rasps

It's happening! A Thousand Rasps is open for business at the MD Renaissance Festival. We are located on the lefthand side of the front stretch, just before the Lyric Stage. Thank you to everyone who has helped me get here. I look forward to seeing everyone!

i used to go to the renaissance faires in NY often. I had friends who were into it at the time who, if not ideal, were at least pretty cool about me being Jewish, trans, bi/pan, etc. But many of those connections have lapsed, and more generally, i always hoped for something more.

see, when you go looking for fantasy armor and props or accessories, you run into a lot of people who are BIG on norse lore and viking style. That’s cool, i’m polytheistic in spite of my ethnic background, and among my youthful indiscretions was the purchase of a seax. I always liked dwarves the best out of Standard Fantasy races, even if they’re inexplicably Scottish. But a lot of people who are also into those styles are, well… racist, homophobic, transphobic, antisemitic & so forth. Generally in opposition to the cosmopolitan world-traveling attitudes of historic norse explorers.

i would like very much to be able to support artists who i know want my business. Equally as important, i would like very much to support artists who might understand that a trans person especially recognizes the need for armor, and has unique needs in that area as far as style and fit. 

so, i’m reaching out to the community, because i’m sure i’m not the only one thinking about this.

@warclad 's stuff is sublime with a real sense of authenticity that I feel my stuff lacks. I also suggest checking out these shops, which are definitely run by cool people!
