That said... I couldn't put it down and went to bed thinking about it every night until I finished it.  Despite a very slow start, it gave little crumbs of lore and characterization that formed a tantalizing trail through the story it wanted to tell. For all its flaws, its world is utterly fascinating (even though the worldbuilding is mostly walls of text hidden behind hyperlinked keywords,) its visuals are appealing, and once it can be bothered to show its hand beyond giving history lessons, its got a lot of heart. Like DE, it shows both a deep love of and a profound frustration with human(oids) and did make me tear up at times. I also really bonded with my blank-slate-but-not-really Cleric on a more personal level... Came to think of him as something between a self-insert and a beloved pet. Good Appleboy!
